I think this (and Marvel's announcement of Northstar's wedding) are just the Big Two's trying to ride the Gay Rights train that just got a big push from Obama.
Personally, I agree with Known Unknown- characters being gay should be a personal issue in the stories, not something the character should be known for. Look at Batwoman- DC made so much noise about her being a lesbian when they introduced her, fans still think of her as Lesbian Batman. I hope they don't make the same mistake again.
I hope to live long enough to someday hear someone comment "gee, this was an issue back then?"

Our society is slowly coming to think of straight sexuality as being the prototypical alignment (to borrow a term from linguistics) rather than the superior one. Hopefully this will also happen to gender.
"Why did it cause so much attention when some of the first sentient computers adopted gender identities as part of their interface?"
"Back then we thought of gender as being inseperable from biological sex. It seemed to be a step back towards what we called gender stereotypes. Adding "stereotype" to "gender" did not seem redundant then."
A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale. At first I thought it would be Nightwing, but I really hope it isn't.
Now I'm thinking that it'll be a human Green Lantern that isn't Hal Jordan. I think you could make John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, or even Guy Gardner gay without disrupting much about the character, and I doubt they'll make it a character with a prominent straight romance (so no Superman, Batman, Hal Jordan, or Aquaman).
I read a brief note in the newspaper of all places this morning saying Grant Morrison "thinks Batman could be homosexual and have an inclination for Robin" (Dah? From Morrison of all people, the man who made Robin... Batman's... huh, I so hope he means the other Robins).
I'm pretty sure he means one of the other Robins, but that's still skeevy as hell considering he kinda sorta raised them.

Grant Morrison has said in the past that he thinks Batman is one of the gayest characters out there. Not pejoratively, and not because of Robin. He's a gorgeous guy who's got women throwing themselves at him, and he simply doesn't give a shit. Women dress up in bondage gear specifically to get his attention, but unless they're committing a crime, he doesn't care about them.
That said, Crazy Steve does seem interested in Robin.
A single phrase renders Christianity a delusional cultHeh- no, that was Mad Stan. Crazy Steve is a fan nickname based on the fanwank that the 'Batman' of All-Star Batman and Robin was so utterly psychotic and not-Batman that he must be an deranged hobo who managed to get his hands on a batsuit and run around in it, presumably while Bruce Wayne's body ended up in a dumpster someplace.
As to my reaction to this? Eh. It's a publicity stunt. Possibly with some grain of good intentions, most likely not, and in any case, I really don't care that much.
... of course, it probably helps that I stopped caring about DC in general shortly after the launch of the Nu52, so take that as you will.
According to bleeding cool it is Alan scott apparently.
Kind of a let down really. I know he is the first green lantern but hes hardly prominent at the moment.

Good God, no. This is not about the coming-out, it's about the character. If DC is going to reimagine Earth-2 to a degree that makes this characterization plausible, then it's time for them to make new character altogether.
This probably belongs in the "Rebooted Universe" thread, but the Golden Age is not a toy: if you're not comfortable with Alan Scott, Jay Garrick, Carter Hall, the rest of the old JSA, etc., as prewar-era heroes with one foot still in the noir/pulp universe, and with personalities & traits already defined to a certain degree, don't use them or their names.
Oh believe me I agree with you on this

" I did the right thing, didn't I? It all worked out in the end." "In the end? Nothing ends, Adrian. Nothing ever ends."

That sort of screws the pooch since the characters random muggles can name tend to be in the "half a century" age department.
Fight smart, not fair.
