Alex's interest in what was happening currently increased at the mention of dance. "Cool!" he said.

And there it was. Not that the words themselves were bad, though perhaps exaggerating a bit from what Isoko could glean from them. Being put on the spot by the gaijin was unexpected and more awkward than she'd anticipated. Yet the slight rosiness in her cheeks was counterbalanced by the fact that he did seem concerned about her. Once again she smiled a little in response and actually nearly giggled at his word choice. Having trouble with her language made her feel a bit better about her own Western inadequacies.

"I'm okay," she responded hesitantly, then admitted, "But I.. I can't follow Western things well.."

"Cute, Nakamura. Cute." Ryu smiled, shaking his head.

Sora finally dropped his hands out of their stiff position so they could just hang at his side. "It's alright. My brother and I were born in Hawaii. Our mother was from Japan, but this is actually our first time here."

"Yeah," Ryu replied. "We can speak Hawaiian pidgin better than Japanese."

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."

Derek chuckled slightly and smiled wider. "Are you implying Americans know any more about their own culture than anyone else? Because that's a load of—" he struggled for the right japanese word, then just defaulted to English. "Baloney!" then, switching back to japanese, he continued, "So many contradictions and so much diversity it's impossible to get the whole story."

Hot damn, he was enthused. The girl was almost dragging him in; by shutting down on him he just wanted to pry more! "Though I bet it's like that with Japan too, right? Contradictions, dense language and stuff like that?"

Noticing Yuki approaching, Huian quickly examined and reserved judgment on the girl whom she had only met this moment. Her eyes a shocking shade of green and her attire not only that of a delinquent, but masculine as well, Yuki made Huian raise an eyebrow.

She dresses like a thug, her mind murmured, as if she were a boy. The Japanese have certainly embraced Western culture, and bastardized their own. She had never seen an outfit like that, at least not worn in public; that sort of attire was more familiar in movie screens. That such a culture would let a young woman dress the way Yuki did gave Huian a jolt.

She tugged at her own clothing and grimaced; her T-shirt and jeans were what her mother deemed "casual", though Huian herself felt as if she were dressed to go shopping rather than begin a new career.

"Oh, um, yes, I would like to go with you very much, thank you Hasegawa...san...pai," she responded, struggling with her honorifics while choosing to ignore Yuki's introduction with her given name. Her voice was passive and weak, but she successfully hid her apparent scorn for all things western. "But, maybe, we wait after President-san lets us leave." With her obligation fulfilled, Yuki's gaze was directed toward the area of the President, or perhaps his desk.

Huian had not wanted to accompany them, of course, but she had little choice; politeness dictated that she join anybody who invites her, regardless of however much she would rather spend the rest of her day as away from this foreign country while within it. Yuki had extended some generosity toward her; Huian was obligated to reciprocate that kindness to an equivalent extent.

After Rio, their apparent choreographer, made her suggestion, Huian managed to derive what little she could from the instructor's offer; they were soon to make a photo appearance, and the Japanese do not respect their seniors appropriately. Intending only to accomplish what must be done and leave with their work over, Huian mustered a "Yes, that is fine" before she returned to tapping her fingers, one by one.

I'm still trying to come up with some kind of clever joke, or catchphrase to fill my title, location, and signature.

"Eh... I suppose so. I mean, people in Osaka speak much more differently than people in Tokyo. And the festivals are a little different," Isoko replied hesitantly, not really sure what he was referring to. Maybe it was nothing specific. Still being in high school she was more concerned with both looming entrance exams and this idol business for such critical thinking on culture.

She finally shrugged and tried to smile her way out of it, "But there are a lot of things that are the same between Japanese. So I'm not used to Western cultural references.. the people I performed for weren't really big fans of a lot of things from the West."

Assume speaking in Japanese if not stated

"Zzz... zzz... z... Wha.." Suki blinks, eyes widening slowly as she rouses from her sleep. Oh god, I missed everything. I hope I'm not in trouble.. ehehe.. "Oh. It's time to do things now? I guess I slept through everything.." She stands up out of her chair, pushing her hair out of her face roughly, and smiling wide, eyes twinkling with happiness.. Man, we have all sorts here.. Foreigners, rockers... A lot more guys than I thought.. It's gonna be greeeat!'' "Hi.. How are you all?" She grins even wider, her mouth stretching nearly as far as it can in a joyous smile, and walks over to Derek and Isoko. "How are you guys doing? You look like you're from a loooong way away!" She motions to Derek with her hands, and somehow manages to widen her grin even further, as she continues her enthusiastic talk... "Nice to see we have all kinds here. It would have been boring if we were all similar." She pats Derek on the back roughly. It probably hurts a bit, though it doesn't look like she's doing it on purpose. "I'm sure we'll get along fine."

"Mmhmm, yeah," Derek said, jumping slightly as he was slapped on the back by Suki. He'd taken much worse shots back home, but it was still a surprise. "Yeah, I also never got why the Japanese call us the West. Aren't we closer in an easterly direction? I mean, it is why the Chinese came to California instead of, like, New York."

"In olden times, when the earth was still flat, if you looked on a map, it would show Europe and Asia, Asia being to the east of Europe, the dominant culture of the era. To put it simply, look at the earth as a map instead of a globe, and you'll see the logic."

Donovan shrugged. "Who knows? We're humans. Fifty percent of what we do makes no sense."

Just as it seemed she might be able to follow what her new coworkers were talking about, things took a turn for the more complicated. Isoko could certainly make a few general statements about culture but it really wasn't something she thought too much about. When the gaijin went on about it, she got all awkward again and merely smiled at first when Suki stepped into the conversation. She felt a bit overwhelmed and just wanted to get going with the idol training or something she could at least participate in a bit more ably.

"N-nice to meet you," she told Suki, then stood up and slowly started slinking towards where she thought the bathroom might be, trying to escape.

"We got a runner!" Derek called out in mock seriousness. His face then turned into legitimate seriousness. "Isoko, you okay? Freaked out by all these new people or something?"

No way was he letting her get away. Derek knew people like her, who'd just shut themselves off from everyone and get all introverted. No way, she was too good for that. She was a fellow artist, after all. He owed it to her to make her come out and meet people.

Had the other people all been Japanese, or at least a majority Japanese, Isoko would've been at home in the meeting room. She was actually not that shy of a person, though she could easily put her own feelings aside for the sake of others. But being in a room full of foreigners talking about things she couldn't at the moment wrap her mind around didn't do much for her social skills. Isoko actually cringed a bit when that American guy called her out on the attempt to slip away.

"I.. eto.." she began hesitantly, "I just don't really understand the discussion, and thought maybe we should move along for now? I'm sorry, I'm just not very good with that kind of thing. Especially after I just got out of school for the day.."

Suki slides up to Isoko, gently bending down to her. "Are you alright? You look scared.." She offers a hand. "I don't think I've properly introduced myself. I'm Suki Mihara. Nice to meet you." Her smile becomes softer and she kindly continues her talk. "Just all these people eh? Must be kinda strange.."

Alex stood quietly. The conversation didn't really interest him, and he was ready for dancing.

He started tapping his leg, attempting to get a beat going before they started dancing.

With another Japanese person approaching her, Isoko felt calmer to a degree. Rather than taking the offered hand Isoko bowed in greeting per the traditional method of greeting. It seemed more appropriate given this being the first meeting and all.

"Really, I'm okay, Mihara-san," Isoko responded with a slightly more authentic smile, "It's all these foreign people.. I've never met so many. Or.. any, really. Not in person. It's a little overwhelming."
