Hi everyone! I'd like to ask for help but didn't know where to put it, so I put it here. I have to do an assignment for class about use of language, involving asking others about theirs. If anyone would help me by completing an anonymous questionnaire, I'd really appreciate it. The questions are: What is your age? Gender? Do you have a job, if yes, what kind? (sorry if this offends anyone, if it does, don't answer) Why and for what purpose do you visit this site? Do you use this site's special vocabulary in your everyday life, or only on this site? If you use it in everyday life, who do you use it with: only friends who also visit this site or anyone? Have you ever used it in school (class or assignment) or would you consider that inappropriate? Do you on occasion think in the terms of this website? Has the use of these terms changed the way you think about media? What does the use of this special language mean to you? Sorry if any of the questions are sort of stupid. I have to finish this within a week, if anyone answered, I'd be very happy. Thank you for helping! ^-^

What is your age?

18, although that will change in six days.

Gender?

Female.

Do you have a job, if yes, what kind?

Customer service.

Why and for what purpose do you visit this site?

Because it has a lot of great information about fiction or non-fiction in media, and these message boards always have something to talk about.

Do you use this site's special vocabulary in your everyday life, or only on this site?

I can sometimes identify people I know in real life under certain tropes, but I never use the words out loud, really.

If you use it in everyday life, who do you use it with: only friends who also visit this site or anyone?

[up]

Have you ever used it in school (class or assignment) or would you consider that inappropriate?

I'm not in school, but no, I don't see a difference between this and any other sfw website people visit at school.

Do you on occasion think in the terms of this website? Has the use of these terms changed the way you think about media?

Not really, but admitedly I only skim terms most of the time.

My PM box is always open to anyone who wants to talk/vent.

  • Entertainment
  • I don't say it out loud, but I'll think it when I see it
  • I see a lot more similarities between media now because of TVT

What is your age? 15

Gender? Female

Do you have a job, if yes, what kind? GCSE student (probably high school in the US)

Why and for what purpose do you visit this site? For fun, because I think it's a worthwhile thing, and to find out more about my favourite works.

Do you use this site's special vocabulary in your everyday life, or only on this site? I use the clearer stuff anywhere, and obscure stuff in some places.

If you use it in everyday life, who do you use it with: only friends who also visit this site or anyone? I don't know anyone on here. My brother lurked for a while, so I use obscure trope names with him.

Have you ever used it in school (class or assignment) or would you consider that inappropriate? Not yet, but I want to when we get the right kind of assignment. It might be inappropriate, but it would be fun.

Do you on occasion think in the terms of this website? All the time.

Has the use of these terms changed the way you think about media? No, thank goodness.

What does the use of this special language mean to you? Somewhat that I'm part of a community here; mostly, using it is fun and gets the point across.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

  • What is your age? 21
  • Gender? Male
  • Do you have a job? Currently looking for one
  • Why and for what purpose do you visit this site? Mostly the fora (though I do edit the wiki when I think of something to add)
  • Do you use this site's special vocabulary in your everyday life, or only on this site? I use some terms in real life.
  • If you use it in everyday life, who do you use it with? I just toss the clearer terms out from time to time.
  • Have you ever used it in school or would you consider that inappropriate? I have actually used one or two in a paper, but they pertained heavily to the subject. Though, in some assignments it may be a bit inappropriate.
  • Do you on occasion think in the terms of this website? Yes.
  • Has the use of these terms changed the way you think about media? A little.
  • What does the use of this special language mean to you? It means I actually have things to call recurrent themes in media that don't (usually) involve the word "thingy".

1) 25 2) Female 3) Model and Photographer 4) Entertainment and Interesting Conversations 5) Only with the troper I know IRL 6) This page is like an inside joke, you have to be in on it to get the language. 7) I sometimes wonder what would (insert troper) think/act in certain occasions.

I am 16 years old. I am female. I do not have a job yet. I visit this site to shape my own writing and to waste time. I do use the terms and tropes in my everyday speaking. I speak tropes with everyone even though I don't know any tropers IRL. I usually just explain the ones that are Exactly What It Says on the Tin I do think in tropes. It's kinda become ingrained in me almost. It has slightly affected my viewing of media, I am now the world WORST PERSON to watch movies with, I will predict and guess everything that will happen based on tropes. I have used them during school. To me it simply means I understand writing better, and can appear psychic at times.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
