FOR THE UNINITIATED: The Runaway Guys is a collaborative Let's Play group formed by Proton Jon, Chuggaaconroy, and Nintendo Capri Sun (guest starring whoever else they can get as a fourth player/tournament players). So far they have done the first two Mario Party games (the second of which they just finished today), New Super Mario Bros Wii (featuring Josh Jepson), and Super Smash Bros Brawl (both "The Subspace Emissary" and a tournament featuring many other popular LPers). Next week they start Mario Power Tennis.

SO, with that out of the way, who here is a fan, and who here d'oh, I missed everything they've done so far? tongue

I'm loving the stuff they put on the channel. I was just Chuggaa fan before, but thanks to their collaborations I've started falling in love with Jon and Tims stuff too.

I should really come back to Chuggaa. I fell off around Okami, what's he uploaded since then?

[up] Majoras Mask, Pokemon Emerald, and he's just started Super Paper Mario.

Well now I realize why I unsubscribed. There's like, this huge subsection of youtube dedicated just to Let's playing Nintendo games. I have seen Majora's Mask so many times.

I got about a third of the way through Super paper Mario and quit because that game combined the worst aspects of platformers, so that might be fun.

I came on around Okami, and he's done Pikmin 2 and Luigi's Mansion after Okami, but before Majora's Mask and such.

He does do a lot a Nintendo games. I heard that it was unintentional.

Anyway, I think there was another The Runaway Guys thread, but it fell out of use super fast and got buried. So this one is fine I guess.

Yeah, Super Paper Mario's been pretty good so far (considering I've never played it myself)—he gushes about it a lot, and he also mentions plenty of the flaws it has, but most of all he emphasizes the game's humor.

I'll be honest, I'd only ever watched Proton Jon's videos before they started this up, but ever since I've been a Chugga fan. Like one comment they quoted in one of the videos, "he's like Proton Jon if he actually updated" tongue I tried watching some of Tim's Super Mario Sunshine LP, but I couldn't get into it. I have heard good things about his Plants Vs Zombies LP, so I might try there.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I binged on Josh Jepson's Yoshis Island LP sometime after the NSMB Wii LP. Partially because I got a good impression from him and partially because that's one of my all-time favorite video games.

EDIT: [up] Was there? I'd looked through, but I could never find it. I was kinda surprised it wasn't up here, especially considering that they update pretty regularly.

These guys are great, both individually and in a group. They show how Mario Party L Ps should be done (compared to all the rather sad solo runs out there).

Seeing their next LP is the Wii version of Mario Power Tennis, it made me realize just how much of a wasted opportunity the New Play Control ports were. We only got seven games. One never left Japan, two are in a compilation that's extremely expensive to get now, and one is NOW coming to North America after three years everywhere else. Shame...

I don't recall where I heard of Proton Jon, but I got into The Runaway Guys through him. All of them are pretty good L Pers, IMO. I did like NCS's Let's Play of Plants Versus Zombies and the Donkey Kong Country trilogy.

As for the other thread, it's probably buried beyond belief. I'd not worry about it. I could just be misremembering anyway.

[up][up] Metroid Prime Trilogy. The NPC versions of Prime 1 and 2 were single releases in Japan, but placed in a compilation everywhere else. However, Nintendo only printed one run and second-hand retailers are selling it for obscene prices (check Amazon).

Oh, right, I didn't realize that was part of the NPC series. I always thought that was just its own thing. I suppose I can understand why prices have been driven up for that, though.

Huh. Started as soon as medibot and crew finished up their LP of Kirby's Return to Dreamland.

Pfft, these chucklefucks aren't even doing a run on EX mode. Might be worth a laugh I guess.

Gonna try to revive this thread now (almost a year later!!) that they've started a new LP with a more frequent update schedule. New series is New Super Mario Bros U (which I've played a little bit of!), featuring Josh Jepson again!

I'll say this much, they did better than my friends did. I had a couple friends over when I set up my Wii U, and after doing that, we tried this game out, with my friends on the Wiimotes and me on the gamepad. Even when I wasn't screwing with them by creating platforms willy-nilly, they sucked at the game completely. It was as if they'd never played a Mario game before [lol]

Yeah, I'm not sure he seems to get that the whole point of how the others are trying to play is collaboration first in order to not miss anything. He's just blazing through like, "I'm Sonic the Hedgehog, wheeee!!"

I'm worried about the future of this channel. You see, nintendo has been claiming content ID on many of these Let's Players videos. Now, since each of their livelihood is in danger of being gone, it's almost guaranteed that their own channels are going to take a hit in quality (or at least quantity) now that they must hold regular jobs. That will just make content even harder to make for The Run Away Guys. Getting the neccessary money merely to bring people there will probably be more of a problem.

I don't think they care too much. They've been doing this stuff on their own before money making from LPs was really a thing. And they said they'd probably keep still doing videos. I know Proton Jon and NCS doesn't really care that much. (the only thing about this that really bothers NCS, was that Nintendo was okay with it before. Don't think he really cares otherwise) No idea about Chugga.

[up]Chugga's the only one actually making a living off making videos. The others actually have jobs.

And a quote from slowbeef on that:

I actually spoke to Chuggaconroy through Proton Jon and he's not going to stop making Nintendo L Ps, even if they don't net him money. He wasn't super happy, obviously, but he also wasn't freaking out about it or anything.
