Yeah, with so many people, my brainstorming has left several monstrous plot holes that can't be healed. We need to start over due to the number of people who left, most of whom had a plot line with them that was connected to another.
If I may say, I think we should take the RP more seriously, and not have characters so exaggeratedly goofy as Darren or as over the top vulgar and distasteful as the Avatar if we want a story line we can take seriously.
Mainly a story line that has the Avatar being similarly mad, but with a twist.
Namely, that a soldier of the Fire Empire was picked out to kill him by a group of spirits, who give the kid the ability to bend sun fire.
The Avatar now listens to the council of some demons, some of whom you might recognize.
Sounds interesting. And the characters we've already got would be mentors or part of the Gaang, right?
But do the spirits give him the ability to bend all four elements, as well? Make him a kind of anti-avatar? I think that might be better than "sun fire"... Suspension of Disbelief aside (it takes days for fire/plasma from the sun to reach Earth, assuming the spirits don't grant him some kind of magical power to do that thing the Goldeneye satellite does in that James Bond movie), wouldn't the Avatar still be able to bend that fire?
Not entirely dead.Yeah, basically, after a time, most of the characters end up joining Claus' nakama / Neo-Gaang.
The spirits would let him spontaneously make Plasma Type Fire, but he cannot do it often. Due to how it goes down, at the crucial point, the Avatar realizes he cannot bend that kind of fire.
He could have at an earlier point, but something happens due to one of his demons.
No nick. The being that the Avatar represents is not evil at all, for the being he represents is the planet's custodian, the keeper of the status quo and a destroyer to any and all that seek to harm the planet, intentional or not. It's just the avatar that's evil. Oh and he became evil when a precursor from a civilization that has fallen long ago due to said custodian destroying it told him a heavily warped form of his destiny.

Shameless Self-promotion ho!The Avatar as "the keeper of the status quo"? That's an interesting thought... The preserver of harmony, maybe, but I don't think "the keeper of the status quo" is accurate. Or a good thing, necessarily. But wait, is this your concept of the Avatar, or the actual Avatar from the show(s) that we're talking about?
Also, not much of a reboot if the core story remains the same, but... Oh well...
Not entirely dead. The ultimate fate of the avatar is to die and become the a body for the custodian. Which happens in the form of the custodian literally peeling itself free from the body via the head and then removing the hollow corpse of the avatar like it was a suit.
But the custodian still ain't evil, Just true neutral.
Shameless Self-promotion ho!

Uhg, but we've already gotten pretty far... Oh, as for the people on the boat, I suppose we can say they were captured by the Fire Nation? They were headed right into the heart of its territory, after all.
Not entirely dead.
