It's alright, a generation of americans has been instructed by Modern Warfare to kill russians most efficiently.

Well, that's disheartening.

I'm not exactly sure what using stronger warheads is supposed to accomplish.

The way modern ICB Ms work, each missile carries multiple warheads.

If you add higher-yield warheads, fewer warheads need to make it to their destination to cause maximum fallout yield and maximum destruction, because they're causing bigger explosions and releasing more radiation.

As such, upping the strength of warheads used is an effective counter to a more effective defense, as it means fewer missiles need to reach their targets.

In theory this shouldn't be a problem, since they're not meant to stop Russian missiles.

Any missile in the air is a rather valid target for a missile defense system.

The machine gun was invented to "make war so terrible that no one would ever make war again." It's been over a hundred years, and we've really just improved it to make it better at killing people. tongue

What something is intended to be used for on paper, and what it ends up being used for, are often very different things.

You can't very well use ICBMS for this.

Problem with making war with Nuclear weapons, nothing will be left of either country by the end. I have a feeling moscow would not like to be a pile of rubble by the end of this week.

And from what I've seen it's more along the lines of Russia just countering, not a military attack.

I mean, Russia doesn't have any reason to be launching nukes, in theory.

But yeah, I understand why missile defense is a destabilizing factor. Things can get SALT-y.

Pretty much.

See, the thing with this stuff is that, at the end of the day, no one is going to give the OK for destroying the world over a spat about Poland. Russia doesn't want to end civilisation any more than we do.

So wait, NATO puts up a defense system, and Russia feels threatened?

Isn't that sort of like feeling threatened if someone does a block?

Sort of, If said block was able to blow up planes and other warheads.

NOT PICKING SIDES I SWEAR.

[up][up] Well, if NATO starts blasting random Russian planes out of the sky, that's a pretty blatant act of war regardless.

It's less somebody putting their fist in a defencive block, and more the dude next to you pulling out a shield while he has a sword on his hip. He may not have reached for the sword, but a defensive move can be the opening of a fight all the same.

You don't even need to draw the sword. If I recall correctly, getting a shield-boss in the face can still seriously spoil your day without edged weapons coming into play.

Or alternatively, the edge of a shield.
