That's not pay to win . . .
Pay to win is when they gut the game completely and you can't even complete the final mission without a credit card number. It's when the base game is a fucking DEMO and you have to pay extra to actually play the real thing. This is paying for extras that make the game faster, easier, and prettier. You want pay to win? Try that old Disney Pirates of the Caribbean game they had where you could only get the basic tiny ship and couldn't even access areas that were critical to the main quest without pulling out your damn wallet.
so, 50 pounds to buy the game, 70 if you wanted the imperial race, followed by subscription after i presume the first months...how much was the sub?
and now everyone gets to play for free and those particularly dedicated to playing as little as possible get to pay to win bribe their way to victory. which i think would still end up being cheaper than if you'd been one of the games original players?
ouch, i guess?
wait, doesnt this game have pvp...?

Probably, but most of the diehards who've been playing TES since Morrowind at least probably aren't interested in the multiplayer aspect. It's the story that makes or breaks the game.
Bonuses to gold and xp make it faster to level up, but they don't mean that characters on the same level are gimped. It's not damage bonuses or anything like that, just speeding people up to the higher game levels.

It does, I think. I never saw the point of buying it and paying a sub to find out.
I predicted this would happen way back in the thread - that there was only room for one massively expensive monthly subscription-based mumorpeger on the market, and World Of Warcraft was already out there.
And I was right.
What's going to happen next is up for grabs, I think. There could be a lot of folks out there that paid all the money for the Imperial edition and the monthly subs that will just stop playing at all now in disgust at what's happening.

Sorry, an MMORPG isn't going to feel like a singleplayer game. MM Os take more resources, and are a bigger drag on servers. Which means they have to cut down on elements that would work great in a single player game. Plus the need for large numbers of subscribers means cutting down on lore entanglements in order to not alienate newcomers.
Here's some more links on the subject:

The game is definitely coming to the Microsoft and Sony current-gen consoles in June, on the ninth of June to be precise, and goes subscription free on the PC in March.
I logged on yesterday for the first time in a long time.
Saw an orc that I could kill in Windhelm.
Did so. Did not know crime was a thing now. Had to pay 100 something gold. Orcs are not worth much, evidentally.
Then I fought a boss that had a bunch of neutral ghosts around him. I hit one of them by mistake, and got a bounty. For hitting GHOSTS. With nobody else around. 10\10 New crime system would break law again.
The most edgy person on the Internet.Once you get to the Valenwood, all the grimdark and sadness seems to abate at least a little bit. There are people that get hurt by the stories, but they are the results of normal life. The person you love ends up loving another sort of thing.
I'm a white guy who was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. I have always been surrounded by a culture that I am not a part of. No matter how much I admire and enjoy that culture - I've been to more quinceneras than I can count, I tried to live in Pittsburgh for a while but suffered enchilada withdrawl - I've always been a transplant into it. This is exactly how being an uptight High Elf in the Wild Elf country feels.
I'm starting to think that Daedric prince will be involved in every main storyline. Sheograth played prominently in the Altmer portion of the story, but I can't think of who was involved in the brief Khajiit portion. Hircine seems to be the big bad in the Bosmer Bosmer storyline.
My boyfriend is playing a Khajiit and is very far behind me. I'll try to pay more attention when he gets to that portion of the story to see if I can identify who was involved in it.
So, this has been one hell of a week as far as gaming goes.
Tried to load up ESO on Friday night. The Xbox One was acting funny, froze, and after going through the troubleshooting I discovered that I had "The Black Screen of Death". It's a common problem that generally requires you to send in your Xbox to get repaired. I found that my Hulu Plus app still worked though, so I kept it over the weekend so I had some TV to watch at least.
On Tuesday I noticed that it started back up without lag or issue. I put in my copy of ESO and it booted up without incident.
But, the world works in stupid ways. There's this mission close to the end of the Bosmer storyline that is the most stupidly designed level in video games. Period. Ever.
Basically, the Silvenar is captured, you have to defend him from this lady who comes in and summons a couple of creatures. You fight the creatures, fight the lady, and then the Silvenar gets released.
Unfortunately, the quest bottlenecks at this place for a couple reasons. First the lady that you're supposed to fight only spawns once every 15 minutes. Second, she's not a particularly hardy boss, and is supposed to summon those creatures for you to fight before you can advance in the mission. The bottleneck will result in about 30-40 players waiting in the room for this boss to spawn, then a couple of people who don't know what's up to instakill the boss before she can do her summon.
I didn't have my headset on when I ended up in this place at first last night (Which I know now is bad MMO etiquette), so I didn't hear the protestations and explanation of what we were supposed to do then. Today, after researching what needed to be done to clear this, I went back in with the headset. I found a pretty organized group of people who were willing to play the level. And one fucking troll who kept fucking things up.
I may officially hate humanity as a whole.
So this is a new thing that happened. One of my characters got stuck falling through the ground in during the Chateau of the Ravenous Rodent quest. Logging off and back in didn't work. Reset my PS 4 which fixed it.
My little bro glitched the game for a little bit.

Meh sounds more like a combo season pass and general in-game store/boosts to me.
