And that's any kind of spoiler, btw, even the "wait and see" kind of spoiler. Everyone should post here if they want to, just be mindful of what you're saying people.

So. Queef of Darkness, amiright? Holy shit the ending to that episode was amazing.

Mod Hat ON

I was trying to imply that he might keep her on like Ned kept Theon on, in the former case.

Ah, I see. Well, it's not usual for them to do that kind of thing against the parents' wishes — it's kind of ambiguous how much say Balon had in that matter. Generally fosterage is a mutual agreement though.

Sorry, book detail again, but there's a bannerman in A Dance With Dragons who takes too much pleasure in an enemy's kids being put into a Theon-like situation, and he is appropriately punished by it being insisted that his own kids be "fostered"- so there actually can be a lot of gray area between being fostered/being kept as a hostage pending your parents' good behavior.

Edit- ok, removing spoilers

[up] You do realise that in a series where Anyone Can Die, saying a given character is still alive in a future book is as much of a spoiler as saying a given character dies?

Let me explain! ...No, there is too much. Let me sum up!

As such, you should probably white out the name to prevent spoiling anyone else.

One polite reminder before the thump stick comes out: This is the book free thread.

Book spoilers are not okay, even in spoiler tags.

Sorry, won't happen again.

On another note, the basics of that Robb/Talisa scene. grin

Talisa's "drowning in the Rhoyne" story would probably get her so much action in the Iron Islands.

"Your little brother survived a drowning? Meet me in my longship immediately. We'll bang, okay?"

She had him at honor.

[up] That doesn't prove much. The Ironborn (or at least Theon) will go for anything that has a pulse.

By the way, sorry about my positing of book spoilers. Won't happen again.

I really don't get the sense that the Iron Islanders ask for anything.

...and surely they'd want to have sex with him, anyway? He being the awesome one who actually survived.

Also, in "A Man Without Honor," Roose flipping his fur cloak like that. I need a .gif of it. He has so much swag.

On the subject of Iron Island morality, I really liked the "don't die so far from the sea" line. It's nice to have a sense that some kind of Ironborn culture exists beyond rape, pillage and murder; cutting out the stuff about their religion's left them looking even more one-dimensional than they already did.

What do you think, does Shae genuinely like Tyrion? I mean, she seriously seems to go far above and beyond the call of duty in her profession.

Yes.

Here's my question: Was Stannis "speech" meant to be unironically rousing/"badass"? Because I took that scene as a joke about how socially awkward Stannis is, but I've seen plenty of people express thoughts that it was a proper Rousing Speech.

It was about Stannis being awkward and Brutal Honesty. Stannis' actions (leading from the front, putting himself in danger) are far more rousing than the speech.

Yeah. It was rousing because and only because he then set out to personally lead that charge.

If not for my attachment to some of the characters on the Lannister side, I'd have rooted for him to win.

Speaking of which, I really liked Sansa's conversation with Joffrey about the vanguard thing where she basically verbally bitch slapped him.

I guess she's leaving the city with the Hound. Should have seen that coming, since they already started setting up a marriage between Joffrey and Margaery earlier this season.

Did you see the latest episode? He offered to drop her off at Winterfell, and she declined.

Good idea on her part (the Hound himself seemed to think so)- running away with the crazy murderer who has a fixation on you wouldn't be the greatest idea.
