What is it with anime characters not liking green bell peppers and carrots? Carrots are like the ONLY vegetable most American children love. And yet in Haibane Renmei the children claim they are bitter. That is a blatant lie! They are sweet! And what is wrong with green bell peppers? Is something in Japan's climate not good for them that it makes them taste bad? I mean I like colored bell peppers more but I don't have a problem with the green ones. And yet I never see anime characters complaining about how much they hate broccoli, which I guess would be the stereotypical American vegetable of non-choice.

Green bell peppers and carrots are good.

Until you cook them.

Then they fucking suck.

Green Bell Peppers are one of the nastiest foods on this planet.

I used to not be able to swallow them. The slightest taste of pepper would make me gag.

I mildly dislike carrots — well, I'm OK with them as part of the base for some sauces, but not as a main ingredient.

Bell peppers are great, however (although I find that their flavor is not really all that dependent from the color: green is slightly more bitter, usually, but that varies a lot).

And yet I never see anime characters complaining about how much they hate broccoli
Broccoli are the vegetable of the gods. Who in their right mind would complain about them?

I hate cutting up a bell pepper. They smell horrible.

Cooked carrots are terrible plain, but they can be good mixed with stuff, like in stir fry.

Reading the OP, I wonder about what the hell is up with Americans' taste in vegetables, particularly commonly seen in media portrayals.

That said, raw carrots are superior to cooked for sure. grin

We should start a food drive. We'll send all out best carrots and bell peppers to Japan so that they too can experience the delicious tastes of good vegetable.

[up]Yes!

I like raw carrots and cooked equally as long as they don't have any kind of weird sauce on them. They're best plain. And cooked peas and carrots? Absolutely fabulous!

Maybe the Japanese just don't realize that these vegetables have sister vegetables they are meant to be eaten with. Carrots go boiled with peas and peppers go sauteed in a little bit of oil with onions.

Red bell peppers are way better, but green aren't bad. They're just really bland, only they taste more pleasant than celery.

But, I mean, I never found spinach or broccoli bad either, so maybe I'm weird. Though I only like vegetables raw except for broccoli, cauliflour, and potatoes.

Bluh. Spicy peppers I can get behind, but I don't know what people see in bell peppers.

Jaoanese people are alright, I guess. Usually a little lean for my tastes- I'm a big guy who frequently swings around large metal objects, I need some serious caloric intake- but the flavour is usually pretty good.
