Note: If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the staff to add the trope via this thread
.
This is the thread to report tropes with problematic Real Life sections.
Common problems include:
- Conversation on the Main Page
- Flame Bait
- Squicky content
- Impossible in Real Life
Real Life sections on the wiki are kept as long as they don't become a problem. If you find an article with such problems, report it here. Please note that the purpose of this thread is to clean up and maintain real life sections, not raze them. Cutting should be treated as a last resort, so please only suggest cutting RL sections or a subset thereof you think the examples in question are completely unsalvageable.
If historical RL examples are not causing any problems, consider whether it would be better to propose a No Recent Examples, Please! (via this forum thread
) for RL instead of NRLEP. If RL examples are causing problems only for certain subjects, consider whether a Limited Real Life Examples Only restriction would be preferable to NRLEP.
If you think a trope should be No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only, then this thread is the place to discuss it. However, please check Keep Real Life Examples first to see if it has already been brought up in the past. If not, state the reasons and add it to the crowner.
Before adding to the crowner:
- The trope should be proposed in the thread, along with reasons for why a crowner is necessary instead of a cleanup.
- There must be support from others in thread.
- Any objections should be addressed.
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours for discussion.
When adding to the crowner:
- Be sure to add the trope name, a link to where the discussion started, the reasons for crownering, whether the restriction being proposed is NRLEP or LRLEO (and in the latter case, which subject(s) the restriction would be for), and the date added.
- Announce in thread that you are adding the item.
- An ATT advert should be made as well (batch items together if more than one trope goes up in a day).
In order for a crowner to pass:
- Must have been up for a minimum of a week
- There must be a 2:1 ratio
- If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, give it a couple extra days to see if any more votes come in
- Once passed, tropes must be indexed on the appropriate NRLEP or LRLEO index
- Should the vote fail, the trope should be indexed on KRLE page
Sex Tropes, Rape and Sexual Harassment Tropes, and Morality Tropes are banned from having RL sections so tropes under those indexes don't need a crowner vote.
As per Real Life Troping, we never trope unscripted real life sports — so sports tropes where RL examples would only apply to those scenarios don't need a crowner vote.
Crowner entries that have already been called will have "(CLOSED)" appended to them — and are no longer open for discussion.
After bringing up a trope for discussion, please wait at least a day for feedback before adding it to the crowner.

Notes:
- This thread is not for general discussion regarding policies for Real Life sections or crowners. Please take those conversations to this Wiki Talk thread
.
- Do not try to overturn previous No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only decisions without a convincing argument.
- As mentioned here
, the consensus is that NRLEP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.
- The [[noreallife]] tag no longer works. This is a deprecated tag that was introduced many years ago — originally, it would have displayed a NRLEP warning banner when you edited the page. Per word of admin
as of 2025, any replacement for this system will not use markup, so these tags can be removed.
- If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the staff to add the trope via this thread

gotta wait till tomorrow, i think.
there's already a pretty extensive waiting list for the new crowner. im gonna try to consolidate everything here.
- Please Wake Up (too common)
- False Dichotomy (too common, ROCEJ issues)
- Celibate Hero (morality)
- Elves vs. Dwarves (impossible)
- Sadist Teacher (morality, attracted misuse)
- Dysfunctional Family (too common, gossip, and attracting ROCEJ violations)
- Rules of the Road (narrative trope, all the examples are misuse)
- Everything Is an iPod in the Future (All the examples are misuse as they discuss current technology, extant technology that resembles Apple products is Follow the Leader and not this trope, and anything that would fit the trope would be speculative,)
- Lantern Jaw of Justice (personal appearance trope, moral judgement)
- Forehead of Doom (see above)
- No Pregger Sex (sex trope, ROCEJ in the form of unlicensed medical advice)
so the next one is already almost full...
Whoops, evidently I should've read the rules first. Somehow I got this thread's rules and TRS rules mixed up in my mind.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallTo add something to the waitlist, There Should Be a Law is full of complaining (almost to the point of making the section a Self-Demonstrating version) and ROCEJ violations. The general concept (someone says there should be a law against something they don't like) is likely too common, as it's yet another dialogue trope as well.

A while back, I pointed out that Cool Plane could do without real-life examples, especially since the site had accumulated so many that the page had essentially become an encyclopedia of aircraft.
I also, however, feel the same way about The Alleged Car, which presently has not one but two pages' worth of real life examples— one for cars and one for non-car vehicles. As with the since-removed real life pages for Cool Car and Cool Plane, these fall outside the main mission of TV Tropes.
I'd crowner it (next crowner of course). It also seems like a place where a lot of Complaining About Cars You Don't Like would occur.
I'm noticing that the Elemental Powers page is NRLEP (and on the NRLEP index it says that all Magic and Powers tropes are NRLEP), but none of its subtropes are, and some of them (like Making a Splash) have RL sections and some (like Dishing Out Dirt) don't. Should they all just be added to NRLEP already with their supertrope or will they have to be crownered individually?

I Just Shot Marvin in the Face has a real life subpage, while no other media categories have that many examples. This makes me think that this might be too common.
I don't think The Alleged Car is too bad. I feel like infamously bad cars are more relevant to media inspiration than any cool car, since "cool" is more subjective.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.FWIW, The Alleged Car is currently listed on the "Keep Real Life Examples" page, which means it's already come up for a vote once and passed. I have no strong feelings regarding the subpages one way or the other, but on principle I don't support rerunning a vote without a new argument.
Calling Red Oni, Blue Oni and Anarcho-Tyranny for NRLEP.
Edit: Pages tagged, real life sections cut, and indexing updated.

I got a rock for Halloween.Maybe the The Alleged Car RL subpages belong on Darth Wiki instead? The So Bad, It's Horrible section says that they (and Crappy Carnival's Real Life section) are related to SBIH, so maybe we should make The Alleged Car (and Crappy Carnival) NRLEP and create SBIH subpages for Vehicles and Amusement Parks?
Edited by MissConduct on Aug 28th 2022 at 3:37:59 PM
oh right! there's also DarthWiki.Idiot Programming. it seems like the Alleged Car and other similar pages would fit in there.
There's also already a SoBadItsHorrible.Rides, which seems redundant with Crappy Carnival's RL section. Going to bring up the idea to the SBIH cleanup thread.
I suppose we could have two separate options for The Alleged Car; one to forbid real life examples entirely and one to move real life examples to Darth Wiki (basically a successor to Horrible.Cars, which was PRLC'd). Maybe we could do the same for Crappy Carnival.
I was thinking DarthWiki. The Alleged Car and DarthWiki.Crappy Carnival would be the pages' names and namespace.

I got a rock for Halloween.Calling in favor of listing Reality Subtext in examples of Lover and Beloved (as discussed here
and onward) being a violation of the trope's NRLEP status.
I'm not sure how to handle this, so paging ~Mona Naito since they proposed the crowner option. Since I'm not sure what to do here, MonaNaito or anyone else involved in that discussion is free to handle the cleanup.

I got a rock for Halloween.Anti-Vehicle has more nays than the other Anti- tropes. it'd be nice if those naysayers could weigh in on why that trope in particular deserves to have real life examples when none of the other ones do.
On the subject of those tropes, if the ratios for the Anti-[whatever] tropes stay the same, Anti-Armor and Anti-Air might be the only ones that can be called at the one-week mark instead of having to be delayed by two days, because the other three are very close to the 2:1 (with one being below consensus range).

I got a rock for Halloween.Seeing as Silly Reason for War has a real life subpage, I think it might need checking for any of the criteria for NRLEP (the most likely here being its controversial nature and/or ROCEJ violations).
Crown Description:
Vote UP to cut real life examples; vote DOWN to keep. Anything marked DONE has been resolved. In order for a crowner to pass:- Must have been up for a minimum of a week

Should Red Oni, Blue Oni get called? Seems to have been there a while with a pretty clear consensus
