Note: If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the staff to add the trope via this thread
.
This is the thread to report tropes with problematic Real Life sections.
Common problems include:
- Conversation on the Main Page
- Flame Bait
- Squicky content
- Impossible in Real Life
Real Life sections on the wiki are kept as long as they don't become a problem. If you find an article with such problems, report it here. Please note that the purpose of this thread is to clean up and maintain real life sections, not raze them. Cutting should be treated as a last resort, so please only suggest cutting RL sections or a subset thereof you think the examples in question are completely unsalvageable.
If historical RL examples are not causing any problems, consider whether it would be better to propose a No Recent Examples, Please! (via this forum thread
) for RL instead of NRLEP. If RL examples are causing problems only for certain subjects, consider whether a Limited Real Life Examples Only restriction would be preferable to NRLEP.
If you think a trope should be No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only, then this thread is the place to discuss it. However, please check Keep Real Life Examples first to see if it has already been brought up in the past. If not, state the reasons and add it to the crowner.
Before adding to the crowner:
- The trope should be proposed in the thread, along with reasons for why a crowner is necessary instead of a cleanup.
- There must be support from others in thread.
- Any objections should be addressed.
- Allow a minimum of 24 hours for discussion.
When adding to the crowner:
- Be sure to add the trope name, a link to where the discussion started, the reasons for crownering, whether the restriction being proposed is NRLEP or LRLEO (and in the latter case, which subject(s) the restriction would be for), and the date added.
- Announce in thread that you are adding the item.
- An ATT advert should be made as well (batch items together if more than one trope goes up in a day).
In order for a crowner to pass:
- Must have been up for a minimum of a week
- There must be a 2:1 ratio
- If the vote is exactly 2:1 or +/- 1 vote from that, give it a couple extra days to see if any more votes come in
- Once passed, tropes must be indexed on the appropriate NRLEP or LRLEO index
- Should the vote fail, the trope should be indexed on KRLE page
Sex Tropes, Rape and Sexual Harassment Tropes, and Morality Tropes are banned from having RL sections so tropes under those indexes don't need a crowner vote.
As per Real Life Troping, we never trope unscripted real life sports — so sports tropes where RL examples would only apply to those scenarios don't need a crowner vote.
Crowner entries that have already been called will have "(CLOSED)" appended to them — and are no longer open for discussion.
After bringing up a trope for discussion, please wait at least a day for feedback before adding it to the crowner.

LRLEO tag:

Notes:
- This thread is not for general discussion regarding policies for Real Life sections or crowners. Please take those conversations to this Wiki Talk thread
.
- Do not try to overturn previous No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only decisions without a convincing argument.
- As mentioned here
, the consensus is that NRLEP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.
- The [[noreallife]] tag no longer works. This is a deprecated tag that was introduced many years ago — originally, it would have displayed a NRLEP warning banner when you edited the page. Per word of admin
as of 2025, any replacement for this system will not use markup, so these tags can be removed.
- If a newly launched trope was already given a No Real Life Examples, Please! or Limited Real Life Examples Only designation while it was being drafted on the Trope Launch Pad, additions to the proper index do not need to go through this thread. Instead, simply ask the staff to add the trope via this thread
.

Erin 582 added What Beautiful Eyes! to the crowner without discussion in the thread.
Check out my fanfiction!I agree that it should be taken off the crowner. I'll go and delete Zero Context Examples from the RL section, though it doesn't look like a whole lot of them are ZC Es (from a glance).
EDIT: I took out the examples where the "context" was simply their name or the fact they "were known for their eyes." It seems perfectly possible for the trope to occur in real life, as some eye colors (or hues of color) are more rare than others, which could lead to people commenting about someone's "beautiful" or "piercing" eyes. A lot of the ZC Es were just "their eyes are a beautiful blue" without mentioning anything about who commented on them and to what extent.

Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyHas it been brought up in the appearance trope thread?
I'm of the opinion of cleaning first, cutting if that doesn't work.
Check out my fanfiction!Seconding bringing What Beautiful Eyes up in the appearance thread.
Why was the reason for NLID changed? And the 48 hours (with flexibility for weekends and holidays) applies to when the entry was first posted, not when reason was changed.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettThis is a Plot Twist trope. It's a deliberate turn by the narrative. As such, I don't think it can apply for Real Life situations. There is no Failure Is the Only Option, and there is no plot that can be twisted.
The examples on the page can be summed up with, "things did not turn out well for these people".
Check out my fanfiction!Riceburner wasn't discussed here in any particular detail, but at 0:13 y:n I don't think it really matters. Calling to keep RL examples (though they do need cleaning, as mentioned by Candi).

The Unpronouncable: Not sure, haven't followed this one closely, but I'm inclined towards restricting it to stuff that is impossible to pronounce due to physiology or made intentionally unpronouncable (like the Superman villain whose name I won't even attempt to spell
), specifically excluding "one culture of a species can say it but not another of the same species".
What Beautiful Eyes!: Agree on taking it to the appearance thread, and holding off on an NRLEP vote until that's addressed.
Yank the Dog's Chain: Agreed it's explicitly a narrative trope, and that pretty much all the RL examples (weasel wording because I just skimmed for time constraints) are Not An Example.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpAttacking it from another front, Yank the Dog's Chain requires the character involved (the "dog" as it were) to be a Butt-Monkey, which is itself already NRLEP for "being impossible in RL." I think it could go on the crowner at the very least.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they pretty![]()
I'm the one that suggested a cleanup for Rice Burner, not Candi. Although I think I'm flattered by the confusion. :)
I agree with adding Yank the Dog's Chain to the crowner.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. We both suggested it needed to be cleaned up.
Which is a good thing, because it reinforces the point.
The crowner is getting up around 15 items. S Hould we put Yank the Dog's Chain on this one, or create a new one and put it on that?

Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettYes, new crowner for Yank the Dog's Chain. I lost track of the current crowner's entry count, and the removed entries didn't help matters any. As I agree about adding it to the crowner, I'll set up the new one in a moment.
As for who suggested to clean up Rice Burner, remember that my memory can give black holes pointers on how to suck.

All your safe space are belong to TrumpNew crowner created.
Added commentary to discuss pages before adding, and that ones posted without discussion are subject to deletion.
Hollering now.
[edit] I know What Beautiful Eyes! is still listed in 53 as active, but since we're sending it to the appearance thread to be looked at I was assuming that it's no longer in play as far as NRLEP votes go.

- Yank the Dog's Chain: Added 4th Feb 2018, 11:45:01 AM, 14:0
(Need to work at it obviously, but trying to get back into the habit.)

All your safe space are belong to TrumpThe vote ratio and total hasn't changed since my previous post, but at 14-zip I don't think anyone can argue it might turn around some time soon.
Calling to make NRLEP Yank the Dog's Chain: Added 4th Feb 2018, 11:45:01 AM.

Nothing currently pending.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpOh, my! I apologize wholeheartedly. *blushes with embarrassment* I mistook the "All new" button for the "Add post" (you see that I don't normally go to these forums...)
My reasoning behind asking for What Beautiful Eyes! to be added is because not only are almost all the examples are of blue eyes but it comes off as gushing. And just like not being able to gush about someone who's tall or has a beauty mark, I think that the RL should be deleted.
Are you adding to the discussion on this site, or just taking away from someone else's contributions?Well, What Beautiful Eyes! has a bigger issue than just chairsy RL entries, and until that's addressed (whenever it is, I dunno the pace the appearance tropes thread works at, as I don't follow it) it's set aside as far as NRLEP goes.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpIMO any sentences of What Beautiful Eyes! that do not pertain to In-Universe reactions to another character's eyes should be zapped.
I think all the What Beautiful Eyes! entry on the old crowner needs is a note -on the old crowner- that it was booted over to the Appearance Tropes threads and suspended from NRLEP consideration for the time being. Meaning that if after a fix problems develop again, it can be reconsidered under fresh qualifications. Or something like that.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettLesbian Jock has four Real Life examples. Two are gossip (one accusation and one rumour), one is a ZCE list with a link to a longer Wikipedia list, and the last one is someone who's a lesibian who's also a kickboxer, which may or may not be a coincidence.
I could just clean it up, probably removing the entire section, or we could vote on it, as it's a gossip and sexuality trope.
