From the 13th to the 15th, I was down in Washington, DC with my high school chorus to perform at the Lincoln Memorial for the Centennial Anniversary Cherry Blossom Festival. We were selected to perform there out of all the high school choruses who applied from our state. It was just an over-all amazing weekend, and I'll remember it my entire life.

Anyway, the very last thing my chorus did there was to go see the Yamakiya Taiko Club perform. They are a community band for young people (the members are ages 12-23) from Japan, and they came all the way to America to perform for the Cherry Blossom festival. Their members were in the same city until the Tsunami forced them to evacuate their homes. Even after they all moved to other cities, though, the Taiko Club stayed together and practiced at least two times a week, because that is how much these kids love their club.

They reminded me a little of my own chorus, just because we're both community music groups of young people who love what we do, except these guys are, like, a thousand times more badass. My chorus had to leave the Taiko club's performance a half hour before it was over due to schedule complications, and all of us were very disappointed about that. We all hope we didn't hurt their feelings. I wanted to share their music with you guys because they absolutely blew me away, along with everyone else who heard them.

I highly reccomend you sit through the speeches at the beginning, but for those who really don't want to, the actual music starts at about 10:30. Here you are.
