[up][up][up]Yup. IMO the point of an LP should be to showcase the game as much as it is to provide entertaining commentary, but he just dicks around screaming incoherently, repeating stupid catchphrases, and joking about rape just for the shock value (though he's at least toned that last one down since Retsupurae called him on it).

He's a childish man who makes childish videos for children. That's pretty much it.

I don't really see the need to make it personal...

Honestly, my only experience with him is the Retsupurae video (because I'm a big fan of theirs, if the Mike Dawson avatar didn't tip you off), and I'm loathe to watch his videos after that. If you want to, that's fine; your tastes aren't going to be my tastes, and vice versa. I just don't really care for what I see.

I think it's the screaming and "lol wacky randomness!!1!one!" that turns me off the most. I grew out of that years ago. I have been curious enough that I might check out an early video to see if there's any difference, but, as it stands, there's nothing about him that I find appealing.

I'd be fine about hating him for being unfunny. But then he had to be an immature suckup about criticism as well, particularly when he said on the Retsupurae video:

Pretty funny I’ll admit :)

But seriously, have you never heard: “If you don’t like it, then don’t watch it”?

Actually never mind, keep watching! Your extra views gets me extra cash!

lolololol

By "immature suckup," I mean that he's apparently supposed to be this happy-go-lucky hyper dude that wants to be friends with everybody, yet at the same time, he wants to insult them in a woefully passive-aggressive manner. This quote alone seems to show that he's only in it for the money, not because he wants to genuinely entertain everyone in the best way possible.

On that note, he made a video entitled "I'm sorry," supposedly to man up and admit his mistakes. Problem is, that video has ads on it, and thus he's making money off of a public apology video for no reason.

Slowbeef had a response to this video here.

After seeing Retsupurae's "Adults React to Pewdiepie" video, I have no intention of ever watching anything PDP does. I've heard that he also says the F-word (the other one) and "lesbo" in his videos as an insult, further compounding my decision. Even beyond saying offensive things, his "commentary" just seems really annoying.

I think this Flash cartoon called "PleaseDiePie" is actually funnier (albeit still cringe-inducing) than the Retsupurae video on him.

By curiosity, I took a look at a few of the youtube channels I've subscribed and which seem to be somewhat known.

Brentalfloss : 160 000 members ? I was expecting a bit more.

Team Four Star : 600 000 members ? Yeah, that's more like it. After all, it's kind of a niche. It's great they have so many.

Corridor Digital : 1 400 000 members ? Well, they're making videos with professionnal grade C Gs. That's quite an accomplishment.

Now how many has Pewdiepie's channel...

...

WAIT, 4 200 000 MEMBERS !? Holy crap...

On that note, he made a video entitled "I'm sorry, " supposedly to man up and admit his mistakes. Problem is, that video has ads on it, and thus he's making money off of a public apology video for no reason.

The guy sometimes uploads over an hour of new content a day. For free. And that's without even considering how long it takes to edit the videos and wait for them to upload. That doesn't sound like someone who's only in it for the money.

By the way, why, exactly, is a snarky comment towards his Hate Dumb proof that he's only in it for the money? He taunted some haters. What's the big deal?

After seeing Retsupurae's "Adults React to Pewdiepie" video, I have no intention of ever watching anything PDP does. I've heard that he also says the F-word (the other one) and "lesbo" in his videos as an insult, further compounding my decision. Even beyond saying offensive things, his "commentary" just seems really annoying.

I think this Flash cartoon called "Please Die Pie" is actually funnier (albeit still cringe-inducing) than the Retsupurae video on him.

The "Adults React to Pewdiepie" video was made as a petty response to The Fine Bros' much more popular "Teens React to Pewdiepie" video, where all but one of the teens liked him. Yet some haters cherry-pick some quotes from him for one video and that's enough for you to judge that he's (A) offensive and (B) an annoying commentator? Even by the time that Retsupurae video was released, Pewdie had stopped making "offensive" comedy.

Besides, he apologised for stuff he's done wrong and the fact that he even made that video, I found kind of annoying. People are honestly just looking to moan about him because he's popular or tear him down for not being the kind of comedy they enjoy ... but they hide behind excuses like "he only cares about money" because it sounds like a legitimate, mature reason to dislike him. Even though it's completely baseless. So it pisses me off that Pewdie acknowledged it and sank to such a level that he felt he had to apologise to the immature trolls who weren't going to stop anyway. And guess what? They didn't! They still troll his videos and say he only cares about money.

Frankly, even the original response he gave about them giving him more money was above them. That was more than they deserved, let alone an apology.

I don't. It's 2:00 AM here. Is that guy just trying to piggyback on Pewdiepie's popularity ... ?

Slowbeef had a response to this video here.

Read it and I have no respect for anyone with such petty dislikes. I wrote out a long, long reply about the reasons why but ... there's no point. The arguments are so off the mark and so mired in his fictitious image of what a "douchebag" Pewdie is that anything I write couldn't alter that image even slightly.

[up] Yes, I read the entire painful, eye-rolling post.

I like him because I enjoy his reactions to certain things. I first came across his channel while looking for more videos on Slender (IGN's was the first I saw of it and I was looking for something more in-depth). I liked his first video on it, which led me to his Doom 3 and Condemned Let's Plays and I enjoyed his reactions to those too. So I subscribed. It wasn't just his reactions to horror games either; his reaction to Fahrenheit's Strangled by the Red String had me laughing for about two minutes, in no small part because it was exactly what most Fahrenheit players had thought at that moment too.

Plus, the fact is that he really does come across as a nice guy. His desire to invent characters and stories takes me back to when I was a kid and liked doing the same thing. My enthusiasm for games has waned a bit over the years so it's almost a relief to see someone who is constantly upbeat about them. There are a few more reasons but those are the main ones.

No, it wasn't. The title is a parody, but the main point of the video was to highlight his immaturity by having people look down on it. The video is a response to Pewdiepie, not a response to the "Teens react" video, and it stands on its own as a critique of Pewdiepie without needing to watch the "Teens react" video.

The quotes were not cherry-picked. Slowbeef wasn't willing to look at enough Pewdiepie videos to cherry-pick results, and he actually cut out some of the more offensive content.

I think the Something Awful Goons can get a bit anal retentive about Let's Play standards, but their critique of Pewdiepie has been perfectly valid.

Slowbeef literally invented Let's Play. His dislike of PDP comes from professional pride and a belief that PDP is cheapening the medium he created, not jealousy or a desire to ride his coattails.

Imagine you're the inventor of the television learning that the thing you labored to create is being used to air cheap reality shows. It's like that.

Sorry but this occurred to me when reading Slowbeef's blog too ... do you think the way he acts in his videos is the way he acts in real life too?

Also "highlight his immaturity by having people look down on it" sounds about as immature as you can get. It's pettiness for the sake of pettiness and I think calling it a "critique" is giving it a definition it hasn't deserved. These are the people that deserved an apology?

The quotes were not cherry-picked. Slowbeef wasn't willing to look at enough Pewdiepie videos to cherry-pick results, and he actually cut out some of the more offensive content.

Right. 1000 videos (or in the high hundreds, as it would've been at the time) and he picked the few videos with the rape jokes. Yeah, they weren't cherry-picked ...

So the fact that someone dislikes something you like is worthy of fanboy rage, but 'beef isn't entitled to an opinion on the form of entertainment he literally created.

Yes, "how dare he give commentary while playing a game in a way that I disagree with!?" is not ridiculous in the slightest. If it is as you say it is and that's why Slowbeef is so annoyed, he's the pettiest of them all.

And I know I keep using the word "petty" but really, that is the only way to describe all this. It's not like you're consumers who bought something that turned out to be a disappointment. It's free content that you're either (A) wasting your valuable time watching something you dislike, solely so you have stuff to complain about or (B) not watching but complaining anyway, based on, usually, second-hand or incomplete information.
