A kid kissing an adult is weird but not pedo-pandering. Sorta heavy exaggeration there.

A young kid wanting to kiss someone they have a crush on, young or old, doesn't even strike me as weird. If the kid actually wanted sex or the showed played it up like that was the case regardless of what it actually was (which is what I assumed) that's a whole other story

[up]Then the matter is about context and/or the implications about that scene, I should say.

BTW, guys, what about the other scenes I mentioned in my Episode 10 report? Did I miss anything relevant to this discussion?

I think the most concerning things are the bath/swimsuit scenes, which are clearly played for fanservice similarly to Ro-Kyu-Bu!.

[up]Then I suppose it's decided, if it's the bathroom scenes, underwear / semi-naked and fanservice scenes with the lolis, then it can't stay. I wonder what else we've missed.

[up][up] There are a lot of other works that do the same and they arnt in here. I mean some straight up pull Anime Anatomy too.

The fact that it has an official English release without censors or anything though its a huge thing. If its ok enough for that then it should be really ok with us.

Crunchyroll hasn't been declared "above our pay grade." Though looking at the rules, I think that it might be a fairly persuasive argument that anything on Crunchyroll

  • Is an anime/manga/etc. that is approved for U.S. import as a non-adult work.

5P? Do you want to do that?

The general rule on anything officially brought over (whether through Crunchyroll, Funimation, or Aniplex) is "you'd better have a really good reason for suggesting this is porn." It's pretty rare for anyone to bring over actual porn, so we can assume that anything that got a pass from them would also get a pass from us. For example, Lotte no Omocha (one of the controversial works that the original P5 was on the fence for) almost got brought over before being nixed in the end.

Except the 5P has cut works that are available on Crunchyroll, such as Chu-Bra! and Lotte no Omocha. Two other works that are on Crunchyroll (Tsugumomo and Recently, my sister is unusual.) are currently on the 5P review list with pretty damning evidence against them.

They're not in the business of avoiding pedo-pandering/will take pretty much anything for streaming rights.

That's why I said "good reason" not "we literally ignore anything they've brought over."

I dunno about you but swimsuit scenes of underaged girls being played for fanservice isn't exactly new in anime. There's loads of those shows that haven't been suggested here that contain that content. Even Gurren Lagann had a swimsuit episode with fanservice and perverted moments with Yoko Littner and she's 14 (Admittedly Gurren Lagann is pretty PG-13)

I'm not sure Yoko's a good example, given the fact most people would never realize she's 14 without being told. More prevalent may be Nia and Dorry (was she the girl?) pre Time Skip, who I don't recall being fanservice (Nia had the most conservative bathing suit, I recall)

Another perspective I found from someone who watched all of Tenshi no 3P!:

"When it wanted to tell a story or give the MC some characterization, it usually did that well enough, and where it wanted to be a harem with bland MC and mild fanservice, that was also of decent quality for such content, but those two very different objectives worked against each other to diminish the series as a whole. Somehow in the process of replacing Ro-Kyu-Bu!'s basketball with music, they managed to create something even more conceptually offensive to general audiences than its predecessor while simultaneously dialing the fanservice down to little more than an occasional thighshot."

This show really is a tough case. It's tamer than Ro-Kyu-Bu! and arguably on the level of anime we've allowed before, but the fact that it's from the author of Ro-Kyu-Bu! implies it's aimed at a similar demographic and has the same skeevy undertones that Ro-Kyu-Bu! did.

I'm curious: Why does the fact that it's from the author of Ro-Kyu-Bu! imply that it's aimed at a similar demographic? Is it not possible for two works from the same author to be aimed at different demographics? Is there some sort of official confimation what the intended demographic is?

Well the source material is a Light Novel and those do not make distinctions between Shōnen and Seinen, they only make gender distinctions and its male. Anime do not make any kind of distinction as well. The manga version does and the manga is Seinen.

The series falls under the rather typical genre where an adult male main character is force to take care of some girls with occasional light fanservice resulting from said taking care of them. Its really common for shonen and seinen, there is The Idol Master, Kancolle, Papa No Iukoto Wo Kikinasai, Bunny Drop, Zettai Karen Children and such. The big thing is you self insert as a step dad of sorts for some cute not bratty girls.

Author seems to only have two English translated works, just this one and the aforementioned nixed one. Both follow the same structure, with a near-adult reader insert leching around little girls while loosely keeping with the Accidental Pervert trope to keep up the "Totes not pedo, bro" guise. Upskirts, phallic objects (author's twitter is filled with photos of his little girl characters sucking phallic popsicles mind you), and innuendo abound. Not porn, but I can't see much evidence to suggest it's anything but pedo fetish pandering.

Bleached Underpants is a thing. Some of the most famous and prolific mainstream artists in Japan once drew porn or still draw porn while they do their mainstream works.

Judging a work based on the writer’s previous works or views is a very dangerous slippery slope. Dr Seuss drew porn should we delete all his children’s books?

[up]i think there's a little more similarity between Angels 3-Piece and Ro-Kyu-Bu than there is between The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and softcore bestiality porn.

[up][up] That's kind of a bad/extreme comparison of you're really trying to make a point. Especially given the kinds of examples you could draw upon from the page itself, like Lyrical Nanoha, which started life as an H-Game focused on Nanoha's siblings.

Angels 3-Piece and Ro-Kyu-Bu, from what I know, follow a very similar premise and presentation, just replace basketball with music. Given Ro-Kyu-Bu, and no noticeable change in inclination by the author, that's going to be cause for concern right out the gate.

Without having seen the series myself, I'm getting the impression that the loli fanservice in 3-Piece is clearly toned down some, but not quite enough to not count as skeevy; that's the crux of the whole dilemma. Is it toned down enough to remain? Is the level close enough to its predecessor that the association taints it? Even if it's okay now could the author throw some curve ball does the road?

Given how we've dealt with such works in the past, only the first question should be relevant at this point: the association is certainly enough to highlight that this work needs to be reviewed, but any decision made by 5P should be based on its actual content.

For what it's worth, 5P will probably need to cover the light novels, anime and manga separately as individual works, but whether or not it's feasible is going to depends on whether or not there are readily-available translated sources for the LNs and manga.

There was a query about Rondo Duo -Yoake no Fortissimo in ATT.

In a reply, the OP described it as "There is more plot than porn; unique as it is, it does feature...how do i put this: futa loli demons. Aparently the plot has something to do with...Snow White (the apple, mainly?) and/or religious curses that follow suit. Oh, and there’s some “Classical Music”, Beethoven-style!"

I think it's worth a ruling before it gets any more into the weeds.
