@Troper Roxas and Raineh Daze: Sorry, still working on the new characters, but will post soon about them. (I've been trying to re-read everyone to see if there are any balance problems before posting about the new characters). That, and laundry. tongue

But yeah, I suppose I should have been clearer - half the story dynamic of this RP is that the characters from other universes don't work that way, and so are quite the wild-cards in this setting. (With the exceptions of the hitpoint damage (optional, your character can not have this if you don't want them to), speaking the language, and possible in-story limits on over-powered abilities.) But I suppose you can see why I didn't want to post the setting dynamics until the RP had started...

I don't like stats in RP's either! :P

What I was planning on posting was something to the effect of, the enemies/characters in the Wu Xing world have these abilities/weaknesses/strengths, so that's why these particular characters player characters might seem overpowered, but can be balanced in the setting. The interdimensional player characters don't use any of that. (And, in fact, should not know it exists.) tongue

But don't worry about it - an easy mistake to make - I should have clarified that it was for the in-setting NPCs, not for the player characters.

@Sonzai: Hm, would some characters with similar abilities be allowed to learn from the system you imposed? Considering "Compensation" is another name for qi manipulations and all, and that I made my character low leveled so as to be able to learn much more things than a learned person. XD

[down]Ah, right. Thanks. XD

[up][up][up] Not true: He has no training in any kind of fighting, for starters, and his "bursts" aren't like Erin's "Burst" ability; they're more like a brief shot of super-adrenaline.

...He was originally designed as a character rejected from Scott Pilgrim canon, so he has a lot of flash, but is probably very vulnerable to his own character flaws.

Also, neither of my characters are approved yet. I might not be in this game at all.

[up] Sure thing. Sorry if it felt like I was stepping on your toes for a minute there.

Character Time:

@Ragna about Tiamat: Okay, he's accepted, but remember there is a limitation on what he can summon and what it can do - if it's too many things at once, or it's too powerful, the sword summoning will fail.

@Justa Username about DDR: As long as his summoning ability isn't too powerful it sounds fine, but try to summon something like a tank, and the ability will fail. The only other problem is that I really don't know what Temp Energy Production actually does. Is it just a temporary power boost?

@Killer Clowns: She already has an Anti-Magic knife*

, so anti-magic gas is probably too powerful, unless there were some more restrictions on it. Swapping would probably be OK, but I'll let you decide, and the gas would still have to be a temporary effect.

@Troper Roxas: Accepted, but you should really PM me if she has any hidden powers, otherwise strange things might happen.

@Tera Chimera: The frag grenades and/or flashbangs are fine, but again, I'd like to limit the anti-magic in this setting. Magic-disrupting or dampening might be OK, but don't underestimate the effectiveness of guns vs. mages. smile

@Scrounge: Jeremy Martin is accepted, as long as you realize that magical/energy attacks still hit intangible creatures, and some spells can detect them. He also doesn't seem to have any offensive abilities, so either he's the stealth specialist, or post or PM me any other powers he might have.

As for Kris Hunter, as long as the other abilities aren't ridiculous (which it sounds like they are fine based on above), the only other problem I have is just what exactly the heck a subspace highway is supposed to be, and what effects does it have?

@Grey Star: Yes, characters can gain in-setting abilities and equipment. As well, certain similar abilities could be adapted or converted into the in-setting system, allowing them to be upgraded, etc. as you were suggesting. Again, all this will be done in-story and behind the scenes. smile

As another clarification on character balance: at least vs. in-setting NPCs, I think the powers can be reasonably balanced versus them, and a certain amount of auto-balance will be present. It's not going to be how much damage you can do, but how you use it. And, again, this only applies during the actual combat, all other types of interactions are still fair game, such as diplomacy, stealth, etc.

EDIT: Also, PM'ing me won't make me work any faster, if I haven't replied, it's because I'm busy. tongue

@Sonzai: You see, DDR takes a long time to recharge energy so this is his way around it, make energy that shouldn't exist and disappears when it's used as it was never supposed to be. But since over use fries his brain, this does have limited use.

Sonzai: If you want to get technical, orichalcum is a magic disruptor in-universe, but it's also fairly rare, so I'll nuke that bit. Can't have too many people running around with anti-magic.

KillerClowns Since: Jan, 2001

Gas is mechanically simpler, and fits her style more: traps, ferreting out fortified enemies, combining with friendly magic (since the gas itself is mundane, it just screws with the magic-using parts of the brain), et cetera. So the knife is gone.

Temporary effect is totally acceptable, since temporary effects have a way of becoming permanent when you've been stabbed to death by a cackling maniac who weights a hundred pounds tops. Pity it won't affect enemies that don't breathe, but that's what friends are for.

@Sonzai: Nowhere Man is, indeed, the stealth specialist. If you think he needs to be beefed up, I will, but for now, I think I'll leave him as-is, as he probably has some fighting skills from his time as a superhero, but nothing especially remarkable, and no notable expertise.

As far as subspace highways go... They allow rapid transportation between two points via going through someone's mind. You deem to need a door, so it's not as good as teleportation, and you have to be trained in how to use it. It's a concept from the Scott Pilgrim series, explained in more detail here... Though how it would work in your universe is, ultimately, up to you.

Out of curiousity (Read: Desire to make an OP character), how OP would a hammer-space pocket dimension full of water be? A fairly large pocket dimension, at that.

The reason I'm asking is because pocket dimensions + a lot of water=portable fire hose, assuming gravity works on the pocket dimension and you make the hole at the very bottom.

Science!

So... how does a regrettably deceased loli ghost that makes up for the inability to physically interact with anything devoid of a soul through application of magical telekinesis sound? She'd have some other magic, though not as advanced, and would probably latch onto someone as a mother figure.

And... in stat terms: extremely low HP, but high, high MP.

[up][up]Yeah, I have to admit they are interesting.

Also, the temp energy idea is just a fancy way of how a "Sci-Fi" character can have "MP" but still justify the No Conservation of Energy deal.

  • Name: Kobayashi Kaori
  • Age: 14
  • Gender: Female
  • Species: Human
  • Appearance: "Full-contact magic prepped, headband in place, time to go!"
  • Basic powers/skills description: Kaori's combat technique is equal parts melee and magic. She practices Full-Contact Magic, including point-blank energy blasts and encasing her fists in corrosive magic. Her gloves are enchanted, so if she lights her fists on fire she doesn't have to worry about burning them. Also, excellent at playing drums.
  • Any other info: Kaori has described herself as "a bombastic goofball". This is a fairly apt description. She puts her whole energy into everything she does, and she often does it very loudly. To put it simply, Kaori is not stealthy, at all. She's also impatient, and has a tendency to complain if something takes too long(in her opinion). She is quite happy with her abilities of being able to hit people very hard with both her magic and her fists. Kaori adores sweets, especially ice cream and chocolate. She also likes playing her drums, too.
  • Any relevant prior adventuring or interdimensional work experience: Nope, but it sounds fun to her! Member of a rock band back home.
