I don't remember how long ago the big rape explosion happened in the main thread, but Fast Eddie did send a note off to Google.

We are not really supposed to be discussing Google here. I will just say that I highly doubt their decision to demand these takedowns was completely unjustified, regardless of how it seems. So don't panic, and just wait for official word. I'm sure this will be worked out, one way or another.

There's a bit of hypocrisy in google's logic as well. So what Wikipedia gets to keep their articles on "rape" while we have to take ours down?

@Prfnoff: Volume of gameplay not being enough to save a particular game does not strike me as a judgement on the overall principle. That would take... a judgement on the actual principle.

Which I really would kind of like to hear some word on. At one point Turn-Based Tactics games with the occasional sex scene were pretty popular. I have no particular plans to make trope pages for any of the ones I've played... but I'd like to know where they stand just in case.

[up] This is the right of it. Each work is judged on a case by case basis, and the criteria is ultimately subjective. If two games have similar amounts of gameplay, but one comes across as significantly more prurient than the other, then the more prurient one may well be in greater danger of cutting depending on the circumstances.

There's really no exact measurements that we can give you that would apply to all given works that says "Up to this level it's fine, beyond that it's cut." If there were such measurements, a panel wouldn't be necessary.

This is so ridiculous. As long as the subject is handled with relative tact, there's no reason to wipe pages on rape.

There's lots of tropes that are potentially offensive in some way. Funny how only the rape pages have been given the wipe. There's lots of pages on sex that still exist.

Maybe we need a different server.

Since when was Google into censorship anyway? It's not like the pages had obscene pictures or images of children being violated. And that's a very good question. They never bothered to censor any content before.

I'm bringing this up because I've only just noticed it.

We're not discussing the rape tropes here. Those were removed for google related issues that the P5 has nothing to do with at this time. Eddie is waiting from a response on Google before he decides how to proceed with them.

I have the source for Kite, and got the banner off. Before I restore it, we need to shape it so the article points to the censored version. Visit the relevant Special Efforts thread.

This is the right of it. Each work is judged on a case by case basis, and the criteria is ultimately subjective.

The trouble with this is that people are made uncomfortable by some things that we aren't supposed to be using as a basis to cut, such as BDSM, or rape scenes, or yaoi, or bad writing overall, or just being in a genre that the critic doesn't like. Having such things shouldn't be used to decide how prurient a work is, but it typically is, and that twists the intent of the policy.

[up] Those things are not, and never have been, grounds for cutting, unless combined with undeniable pedophilic overtones, or are in a work that's completely pornographic otherwise.

The CVR has a "keep" disposition for Fifty Shades of Grey, so it should be restored, apparently.

Does anyone know anything about the manga Sundome? It was voted cut, but reading some of it, I'm starting to think it shouldn't have been. I don't really care about it, but I don't want something to get cut when it shouldn't. Anyone?

I will back you up on that one Kuro, Sundome is simply ecchi, definitely not hentai and probably has enough of a plot to keep.

It does have masturbation, heavy fanservice and not-quite sex. The female characters don't seem to wear bras either.

To support it I would say Sundome contains the story of sexual frustration. It's also a school club life comedy. The fanservice isn't every page, only roughly every second or third page (although it varies quite a bit). There are no real depictions of genitals either - nothing that gets censored. The characters don't look under-age.

I haven't read far enough to tell if some of the deeper themes about the story are really present, but MAL reviewers seem more interested in talking about the story than the fanservice. This is in comparison to say, Aki Sora where all the reviews mention the sex straight away and as a point of contention.

I heard the plot doesn't start to develop and progress properly until the third volume. I wouldn't recommend this for cutting, but if there was particularly creepy gushing on the page it might not be worth bringing back. Either way, I'd say this work could be brought back, and in the interests of fairness we should consider it.

Thirding the return (via P5 review) of Sundome. I don't like the manga, but I don't think it's the kind of thing that deserves to have been cut.

...Although I'll admit it may be a bit borderline for some people. It's certainly worth a proper review at the very least.

Looked into Sundome when Kuro Bara Hime mentioned it in the other thread. I'm a bit into the second volume at the moment. A lot of it's definitely sexually charged, but most of it comes across as more comedic than anything else. (And I'm having a hard time imagining anyone being turned on looking at some of the faces Aiba makes.) And there is actually stuff that doesn't involve sex going on too. I'm just not seeing arousal as being the primary purpose of this one.

Nothing on the page that looks like gushing to me as of last July. I'm starting to wonder if it actually exists.

I'm surprised Rape, Pillage, and Burn is counted as one of the Rape Tropes: It's supposed to be a trope mainly about pillage, and in fact is currently the only trope about it.

The Rape Tropes have not been cut; they are merely behind a curtain whilst talks happen with Google. Any page with "rape" in the title has the Unwanted Topic banner, e.g. Tiosretgjn Rape Knijsfg. Discussing them here is currently pointless.

Flagged O Ring Orifice and Unlucky Busty Girl, since there was discussion in the Restorations thread but no flagging at all.

Now, should Horrible.Fan Fic be flagged?

Edit: Huh, the flag has disappeared. What's up there?

[up] Oh, I accidentally zapped them. My bad.

Well, O Ring Orifice is certainly a porn trope. Unlucky Busty Girl... eh, I don't see why it was deleted. There are non-pornographic examples of it...

Also, I guess Fanfic can be flagged. Some of the fics there were genuinely horrid for non-perverted reasons.

[up]Here we go

Concerning Unlucky Busty Girl, Arha has already posted something upthread.

Concerning Horrible.Fan Fic and its subpages, Fighteer suggested to prohibit examples that don't have pages on the wiki. Seems like a reasonable approach to me.
