Now, it's great that we're trying to kick out all the pedos, but why did we throw out everything else, too?

This should explain why I seem to be taking an alarmist stance on this issue.

It's weird, because I was thinking about that guy. One of my old teachers had that quote tacked to the wall, and I've had it in my mind all day.

Can we take that discussion to the relevant board? Please. I just want my recommendations back. This place was like THE place for fanfiction recommendations on the entire fucking internet. And if we can't have this place for it, where can we?

I heard someone suggest a separate wikia, like with what happened to Fetish Fuel. That was a good fucking solution. How about we do that? How do we do that?

[EDIT] Huh. There already is one. http://fanfiction.wikia.com/wiki/Fan_Fiction_Wiki Gonna have to take a closer look on that one.

The Fanfic Recommendations pages are not lost. The cut was a weird sort of precautionary measure on Eddie's part, with full intention to subject their listed recs to the Arbitration Council's scrunity for any possible violations with the new policies.

[up] Yeah, I know that. I just don't really trust that job is ever going to get done. I have never heard of this council before, never seen them do something. They are an impersonal, vague Shadow Council for all I know. And unless they're just going to put their trust in tropers marking any fic as explicit (or the sufficient degree of explicit(?!)) in the summaries, then they aren't ever getting through that mess.

Do you think this job is going to get done? And if so, why? And more importantly: In what sort of timeframe?

@Also Sprach Odin: I know! This wiki is just about the only place you can find Lemon Fics from a fandom-neutral source.

@Pannic: Yes, we all play in the admin's backyard, we get it. But as a wiki we're responsible for a lot of the wiki's content. And when the landlord begins digging up the flowerbeds because he wants turnips planted, is it not unimaginable that we would feel angry and betrayed at the loss of all the work we put in? Do tenants not have rights?

I think what kept people back from commenting on the process was a fear of a ban. "They're cutting pages, renaming others... what will they do to all I've done under my name if I vote to keep it, then get banned?" I mean, who wants to admit they posted a porn fic rec.?

Please get some perspective. It's a website, not fucking Freedonia.

I have plenty of perspective. This is a wiki, ie. a community project, from which the community's opinions and concerns are apparently being shut out. The continued lack of announcement is not helping that impression.

I don't know, I just have this mental picture of a bunch of people who, upon suddenly discovering that sex is a huge part of human relationships the moment you hit puberty, and most writers are post-puberty, go into furious denial mode rather than alter their worldview to accommodate it.

Complaining is one thing. Making cartoonish references to Nazi Germany and 1984 is another thing entirely.

I admit, I'm a bit biased. I mean, I've never quite understood the way people go on about the supposed quality of a story where the plot is pretty much "Twilight Sparkle has sex with half of the named characters on the show."

[up] Did you really think that that was what I was fighting for? Yes, I have low tolerance for most PWP fics; yes, nearly a lot of NSFW material are of genres I personally find distasteful; and yes, I do believe that "loli should be kept to 2D only".

Doesn't mean I want it all gone. I do have faith that the community can police itself when it comes to things like this, that there should be more stringent (read: not draconian) guidelines, and that the admin and mods should have their ear to the ground when it comes to things like this.

But all this just screams "take the easy way out and if anyone complains, crush them". I for one would offer my help to see this issue through if anyone but asked.

Let's back up here for a moment: My source of comments is the comparisons drawn. You referred to a genocidal regime and a work of dystopian fiction that refers to a nightmarish government that crushes freedom and even independent thought, to protest the sudden yanking of fanfiction.

I'm just saying it's a bit disproportionate.

Great Scott that's an ugly layout. Any way we can petition to have it improved? I don't just mean the categories, but the rules header could definitely use some formatting improvements.

EDIT: Oh look, all the reviews are gone. What a complete not-a-surprise.

EDIT 2: Waitaminute it's locked. How are we supposed to add new categories? And Megacrossovers should have a unique link and not be under "M".

Really wish somebody hadn't nuked the review transfer work off the main pages I'd started-

Waitaminute. I can still track them down via the reviews index. Why are they gone from the pages?

I noticed it on the Nanoha recs page just today. (But then again that page is a disaster, as someone deleted all the commentary without transferring it to reviews and I was only able to save some of them.) Maybe? It's hard to be sure, I believe some of the works had reviews and those are the ones missing their review links now.

It was also happening yesterday on the Harry Potter shipping page, but is not now. Hmm, I guess the site is correcting.
