[up][up] It’s official (as in published by DC) but it's not canon.

If you mean Running the Asylum, no, they're not. Marvel/DC do make an effort to get "prestige" hires who don't always have any attachments prior to taking the job.

It pains me to admit it, but the non asylum books aren't always better. Whether the Batman fans have any specific examples I don't know, but the Power Girl book? I don't think it's terrible as some people made it out to be, but I don't think it's any better than her last two solo runs either, and I think that it seems to actively antagonize people who did like the establishments it disregards hold it back. Like Sovereign Seven took away her original secret identity and company too, but it didn't tease readers about them coming back only for the character to denounce those parts of her past. Not that Sovereign Seven itself was peak super hero comic book. Besides my the flaws I found with it I remember people complaining about how Claremont used characters like Impulse. Still, I never got an antagonistic vibe from it.

Still, to the people who think Jason Todd is being misused, how much of that do you think is classism versus Running the Asylum. Really, the character's entire existence since Crisis On Infinite Earths itself a sign the inmates had taken over more than anything before it, seems to odd fandom urges colliding with each other. The guy whose job was basically to be Robin since Dick Grayson can't be is now a street rat that the writer then holds a fan poll for to see if he dies or not. The writer was fired for that stunt, but still? How was that anything but an inside job? Sure, there are other things to consider, like general Dark Age "edge", but then character gets brought back Superboy Prime, himself warped by the fanboy writers into the worst thing ever used to attack other fanboys who are not writers yet, and gives a thinly veiled rant against the fans who voted for his death, he gives these rants at least twice. I shouldn't care, I'm not really a Superman/Batman fan, but I don't like the precedent this all set. What happens when it spreads to books I do care about(I'd find out in due time. Why do so many hotshot Daredevil writers go on to seemingly lose their minds?)

Immortal Legend Batman is...pretty good so far. 8/10. It's very cheesy and very manga-ispired, but in a self-aware sort of way. As far as the recent crop of Elseworlds go, I'd say its up there with the gaslight Justice League.

So I've been reading some Nightwing stuff, and man, Dan Didio really was salty he didn't get to kill off Nightwing huh?

No wonder people hate that guy.

His lore and history.

Specifically, Dan Didio really hated that Nightwing aged Bruce, and wanted to kill him off in Infinite Crisis.

And then he came back and wrote a story about how Nightwing's death would have brought eternal peace to the DC verse, which is hilariously petty.

Was the whole shot in the head Ric Grayson plotline also a Didio thing?

Between Didio, Teen Titans Go, the Titans live action, and Super Hero Girls, it feels like DC just... doesn't like Dick Grayson too much anymore. Even the Gunnverse is just going to shove him into a puppet show.

The most respectful Grayson portrayal of late probably is... Lego Batman, where he's a clueless, goofy fanboy but at least with a heart of gold. Or the Gotham Knights game I guess.

Please remember that, ultimately, fictional works of entertainment are just that.

I just find it bizarre that Didio was seriously petty enough to write a whole story about how Dick Grayson dying would have made the best timeline.

If it makes you feel better, DC Super Hero Girls wasn't influenced by anything other than Lauren Faust having some weird urges to do weird things with DC characters. She didn't want Wonder Woman or Wonder Girl flying anymore, despite admitting the former had been doing so in the comic books since the 1986, she wanted a Dick Grayson who really was a dick, Supergirl had to be outright hostile to Superman, and she wanted a hyperactive Barbara Gordon in love with burritos.

Granted, sentiments of Didio and similar minded individuals might have had something to do with a Lauren Faust television show finally getting green lit, but it was still a happy coincidence if so. Happy, for me at least because I quite enjoyed DC Super Hero Girls. It's an unrelenting High School AU parody of the DCU, but it's not a mean spirited one...unless you're Dick Grayson, or Garth, or Hippolyta, or Antiope, or Maxwell Lord. And Hippolyta gets better.

Bad.

But, anyone know any good comic apps where I can read the latest Absolute Batman online? Sadly my local comic store is unavailable.

What, you haven't seen all sorts of posts bitching that Matt Franklin got Batman wrong because of one panel saying "People don't change"?

Sounds like a Batman that just gave up. If people can't change, then, why bother with the cowl? Or a lot of what WE used to do? Just to vent some anger?

I think Batman is just putting up a tough front to try not getting his hopes up, as a previous preview indicates Croc might be talked down peacefully.

Also a leaked panel from the new #1.

Double post from me. Columbo meets Batman. I think you can guess where this is going.

Hah. I can buy Bruce fully expecting this and being impressed. Considering Columbo has likely solved a crapload of cases, Bats probably knew what was coming the moment he heard his name.

On another note, since Gordon is implied to be a Secret-Keeper, I wouldn't be surprised if he's getting a laugh out of this.

Lastly, this one particular You Tube Comment got me thinking about how obvious Batman's identity is:

This is something that bothers me: people always act like you could easily figure out Bruce Wayne is Batman because he's the only one both rich enough and with enough conscience. But you only think that because you're working backwards from knowing the answer. Tis actually insane to just assume dopey billionaire Bruce Wayne has all of the combat skills and detective skills needed to be Batman (even if he did disappear for 20 years in some versions) If you were actually in Gotham you would think Batman was HIRED by Bruce Wayne. Yes Bruce is where the funding has to come from, but you'd assume Batman was ex-military, maybe ex cia or something. You'd think Bruce Wayne either put him up to it, or he got Bruce Wayne to finance his vigilantism but it would be illogical to assume they're the same person

And it actually occurs to me that in today's climate and the—completely justified 95% of the time—attitudes towards the wealthy, people thinking that Batman is funded by Bruce Wayne, rather than actually being Bruce Wayne is highly likely. Because no-one would believe someone that wealthy could care as much as Batman is. I know that, when Batman Inc. began, Bruce flat out admitted he funded Batman as well, which was technically true.

It makes me think that quite a few people might have a huge blind spot when it comes to connecting Bruce to Batman. Bruce does go out of his way to come off as a completely useless fop. It's done well to help him hide his identity for the most part, but has backfired when it comes to people targetting Bruce Wayne directly. Kinda like he forgets that all that wealth and the increasing sentiment of Eat the Rich would make him a target by default.

It would take someone who can look at things entirely objectively to really make the connection.

Most people in-universe actually assumed Harvey Dent was Batman and Bruce Wayne was funding him before his accident.

Plus everyone knows thanks to Batman inc that Bruce Wayne funds Batman.

Huh. I didn't know that everyone thought Harvey was Batman. I guess Bruce did a good job of not being a suspect, at least until Harvey became Two-Face.

And yeah, him saying that he funds Batman would either earn him some cred (he's helping the guy who saves the world), more disdain (so Batman is really the personal soldier of some selfish rich boy), or get him targeted by those with a grudge against Batman (if we kill Bruce Wayne, we'll cut off Batman's funding).

Then again, it's a question of if you want to make yourself a target by going after someone who's technically a friend of Batman (for those who don't know they're the same dude).

Now that I think about it, if it's known that Bruce funds Batman, then can he not also just say he funds the Justice League, thereby allowing him to finally dodge all those does Batman pay taxes memes.

And finally, the real finale of The Dark Knight Rises.

Christian Bale learned the lesson that Adam West already knew: some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb.[lol]
