Anyone read the Fish Police comics? I found one in the used section of a bookstore today and thought it was pretty cool.

[up]The issue I have is a middle one, and it was still interesting enough to make me order trades of it off Amazon.

Ever see the very, very short lived cartoon series based on it?

Oh, yeah, Fish Police. Man, that takes me back. I picked them up when I could find them way back when and I'm not sure if the story lines ever got resolved. Gil was an antihero before it was cool. Just ask someone if they know what "Demolition Drinking" is, and you know if they read the comics. I've got them in some box in my basement.

Oh, yes. Had to look for my copies. Original black and white comics self published by Steven Moncuse back in 1985, then reprinted and acquired by one small publisher after another for a few years.

I heard about it through the cartoon actually. Someone mentioned the cartoon to me a long time ago.

Yeah the cartoon doesn't bear much resemblance to the comic, unfortunately, though it wasn't terrible. The best moment from it, in my opinion, was when Gil had to talk a jumper down from a ledge; his final line was something like "You're underwater, dummy. What do you think is gonna happen?" Echoes the frequent "why are there stairs underwater?" image in the comic.

I just got one of the trades today. Where do I go after this? Do I have to get the rest of the issues individually?

Also, I made a page for the comics at ComicBook.Fish Police.
