The new TVTropes app (in beta testing)
has resurrected The Badge Shop
and moderators can now give out award badges via the app and anyone who uses the app can add any other badge to their account for free! Badges are viewable in all sections of the site on the app (Forums, Queries, Discussions, TLP and Reviews)
The new app should be available to the general public within the next couple of weeks!
NEW BADGE SUBMISSIONS:
- Users can submit designs for new badges for review via this thread. If approved by the moderators and the admins any moderator can then add that new badge to the badge shop via the Badge Shop Manager.
- New badges should be of higher quality and not appear pixelated like current older badges, we can now upload higher quality images for them.
- New badges should have a transparent background so they don't show a different color background when on night vision.
(Started this thread based on this thread/post.
)
For those that are unaware, one of the ideas for bringing in some money from the forum-side of the wiki is to sell "badges" (sort-of like the Herald one) that you can buy and put up as part of your "gingerbread" .
The shop can be found by clicking on the "basket" at the top of any post. There is a 1 USD -> 1Þ exchange rate.
Each person who buys a badge will also be able to customize the hover text that people see for their particular badges. (Note: Only plain text is usable for a caption. Potholes and other wiki formatting will not work)
There are three slots under the avatar and above the "title" space to display them. You will be able to get to your gallery (where you can chose which ones you want to show and their order) by clicking on these slots.
If you wish to participate in making the badges, they need to be a max of 24x24 pix.
The only things we are completely keeping out of the store are symbols that are generally associated with any religion (the Yin-Yang and such are more known for other reasons), gender/sex/sexual orientation badges, and ones that infringe on copyrights. If you see things that you think do infringe, you probably don't have to worry about it. Those are images that don't match their originals (the heart container), are free-to-use, or the original copyright owner has lost their privilege to go after the "offending" images by not going after them in the past.
Please use this thread for everything badge-related.
The rest of this post is taken up by badge ideas, links to badges people have made, and default text ideas. NOTE: The list has not been updated in quite a while (and will probably never be) now that badge ideas/submissions appear naturally in the thread and go strait into the shop.

From the country that *actually* invented fries.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. |
I tried myself at some flags (those with clean borders) and hope they're fitting with the rest. I doubt there are tropers from most of those countries, but still for completion's sake.

Programming and surgery have a lot of things in common: Don't start removing colons until you know what you're doing.... Okay, give me a few hours on captions for those. I'll have to do research on several of those, like Costa Rica.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Perhaps make few threads? Something like "International tropers, help come up with captions?"
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Nah, I would say that just mentioning it in the general Yackfest conversations should be enough for our purposes. If even one person sees it and gets a description/comment posted in this thread, we will have what we need. No need to put more threads out there.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!Okay, that would work.
Either way, I think that actually finding a troper from puerto rico and getting his thoughts is an awesome idea.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.The Flags aren't bad, but the don't fit the template of the current ones.
Rules for flags:
- Flags currently come in two sizes depending on if they need to be split into an odd number of horizontal stripes or an even number.
- Only flags with white touching the outside have a grey border. This border is exactly the same colour on all flags that have it.
- All flags are a true match in colour to the actual flags not just an eyeball of "this looks about right". Official Hex codes can be found on Wikipedia.
If you wish to create flags, please do so based on the current templates so I don't have to remake them. Also, please upload images as individual images so I don't have to cut them apart later. Thank you.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI've been slowly coming up with an idea to have folks play a forum game for a badge or two... maybe if they get more attention, they'll start selling more.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. We do have plans to get some attention for them, but I really like the idea of a game.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerSoooper-sekret sooorprise plans.
I'm thinking of a story-telling game, where I'll give out badges for whoever can write the best story with a scenario I design. Thinking of a framing device for it all, for those who may be interested. I'm trying to decide if there should be a one-week window for submissions or a two-week window.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I bought a lot of tropies and have been giving them out to a lot of my friends and such in the hopes of supplying some advertising. I think it really hurt sales though.
For that, I apologize.

I know what you mean. Even though I'm not one to purchase a lot of "display only" things, I put enough effort into helping it get set-up that I would like to add "my two cents" to what happens in the future.
@32: Hmm... That would be interesting, but I'm not sure how many people would be interested in it for just a badge or two. Though having the winner pick out the badge(s) themselves might bring a few people in.
Then again, I don't know much about our fanfiction/writing community.
Other ideas (that I just came up with, so feel free to poke holes in them or suggest ways to make them better) are a forum game where you post a badge and the next person responds to it in some way (ie: "caption the previous person's badge") or posting badges based on what the previous person did (sort of like what goes on in "You are banned").
The key is that the people playing it have to go look for badges in the shop to post with. Can't find a badge that they want to use? Well, we direct them here to suggest/submit new badges.
EDIT:Dang it, how do you post images? I tried [[https://static.tvtropes.org/swag/m_badge.png]] but that didn't work...

Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!To post images, just do the absolute bare URL — no brackets, or it'll become a link.
Game-wise, if there were to be a game based on the badges of the person above you, there would have to be a fair few people in Forum Games with badges already; otherwise, the thread would likely die before people were encouraged to purchase badges of their own. It's a great idea and I think it has potential, though.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. An addendum is that if you post it just bare, it will appear under the avatar box. To make it show in controllable position, you gotta use table formatting with ||
| ||https://static.tvtropes.org/swag/m_badge.png|| | ![]() |
I think that forum games will happen on their own when the badges spread far enough.

Nope. Using the image link, anyone can play.
OH! Avatar+badge game! Next person comments on the combination of your avatar and the badge you chose. It could go like this:
That is a devil of a pun.

Bug description: I was going "||https://static.tvtropes.org/swag/zodiac_ox_6293.png||[[/quoteblock]]" at the end of the quoteblocks. This caused the bottom-of-page-inside-of-the-quoteblock bug. Putting a line break between the || and [[/quoteblock]] fixed it.

I put up a Belgian Flag in the same style as the other flags.
