NEW BADGES!

Go To

The new TVTropes app (in beta testing) has resurrected The Badge Shop and moderators can now give out award badges via the app and anyone who uses the app can add any other badge to their account for free! Badges are viewable in all sections of the site on the app (Forums, Queries, Discussions, TLP and Reviews)

The new app should be available to the general public within the next couple of weeks!

NEW BADGE SUBMISSIONS:

  • Users can submit designs for new badges for review via this thread. If approved by the moderators and the admins any moderator can then add that new badge to the badge shop via the Badge Shop Manager.
    • New badges should be of higher quality and not appear pixelated like current older badges, we can now upload higher quality images for them.
    • New badges should have a transparent background so they don't show a different color background when on night vision.

     old post

(Started this thread based on this thread/post.)

For those that are unaware, one of the ideas for bringing in some money from the forum-side of the wiki is to sell "badges" (sort-of like the Herald one) that you can buy and put up as part of your "gingerbread" .

The shop can be found by clicking on the "basket" at the top of any post. There is a 1 USD -> 1Þ exchange rate.

Each person who buys a badge will also be able to customize the hover text that people see for their particular badges. (Note: Only plain text is usable for a caption. Potholes and other wiki formatting will not work)

There are three slots under the avatar and above the "title" space to display them. You will be able to get to your gallery (where you can chose which ones you want to show and their order) by clicking on these slots.

If you wish to participate in making the badges, they need to be a max of 24x24 pix.

The only things we are completely keeping out of the store are symbols that are generally associated with any religion (the Yin-Yang and such are more known for other reasons), gender/sex/sexual orientation badges, and ones that infringe on copyrights. If you see things that you think do infringe, you probably don't have to worry about it. Those are images that don't match their originals (the heart container), are free-to-use, or the original copyright owner has lost their privilege to go after the "offending" images by not going after them in the past.

Please use this thread for everything badge-related.

The rest of this post is taken up by badge ideas, links to badges people have made, and default text ideas. NOTE: The list has not been updated in quite a while (and will probably never be) now that badge ideas/submissions appear naturally in the thread and go strait into the shop.

I've made quite a few, and Rodney said I can ask for one. That's what I mainly do here anyway. On the other hand, I don't remember making badges... : Any new badge categories we can make?

Think Catalogue should have gotten an artist award badge instead of a badge award badge :)

If you just want the names, they're Martello, Discar, Meeble, Catalogue and Komodin.
Ah, but that would be "¿Quiénes son los P5?" *nodding head wisely*

Is that badger badge going up? I thought it was cute.

At this point, shima is doing most of the work. Other than that, Best Of seems to be the mod most active with giving out the badges and Eddie might still be working on some of the coding. A few other people are creating badges, but most of us just provide the occasional idea and shima is the one putting them in the shop.

@ Badge categories: I believe shima is following the same rule I did: see what people create and put them in new categories once there are enough of them to have a clear category. I know some of the current categories have been made in the time since the shop was opened.

I would help in badge creation... but while I have a solid critical eye and can offer suggestions as to what does and doesn't work, I can't do visual arts to save my life.

I'm a much better writer than artist... this should surprise absolutely nobody, particularly in this thread.

EDIT: By the way, in case it wasn't clear, I love the hibiscus. Even though I'm not displaying it yet, I had to have it.

Unlike 32 Footsteps, I'm a graphic artist, but writing short bits of humour on the fly doesn't come easily to me. He's done a lot of work.

Catelogue, I complied that list of people whose work I used and who had helped out with the thread in various ways. If you got a badge badge, you earned it.

I can't "make" badges, really. But I have a lot of practice with cropping and resizing, so I can make images and pieces of images badge-sized. So if there are any symbols or icons or pictures that people think will make good badges, I'm more than willing to contribute.

Shima, something tells me that there's someone who deserves a badge for helping here who hasn't got one yet. You. You deserve one perhaps more than anyone else for all your work making badges. I'm trying to decide whether to Holler this post to get one of the other mods to award you with one, as you might not want to do so yourself. [awesome] smile

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Here's the Rose Badge I'm working on. Do you think it needs a background? And do you want it in other colours?

Honestly, I can't really discern a rose there, more along of a red blob.

Needs more contrast.

A badge by any other name would smell just as sweet.

I think that rose looks good. In addition to a black rose (Dark may not be evil, but it sure is dangerously romantic), I think a white rose would be appropriate. We could even do a subtle nod to it in the description - A mark of purity, standing against the worst of us. I'm sure some history buff will get that reference (no, it isn't one to Revolutionary Girl Utena).

EDIT: The redone rose post ninja'd me. I actually like the first better, but the higher contrast one would make for a better template for a white rose.

Ok, Black doesn't look good, but Purple Is the New Black and there's long been a trend of using blue highlights for black, so I did those instead:
