The new TVTropes app (in beta testing)
has resurrected The Badge Shop
and moderators can now give out award badges via the app and anyone who uses the app can add any other badge to their account for free! Badges are viewable in all sections of the site on the app (Forums, Queries, Discussions, TLP and Reviews)
The new app should be available to the general public within the next couple of weeks!
NEW BADGE SUBMISSIONS:
- Users can submit designs for new badges for review via this thread. If approved by the moderators and the admins any moderator can then add that new badge to the badge shop via the Badge Shop Manager.
- New badges should be of higher quality and not appear pixelated like current older badges, we can now upload higher quality images for them.
- New badges should have a transparent background so they don't show a different color background when on night vision.

For those that are unaware, one of the ideas for bringing in some money from the forum-side of the wiki is to sell "badges" (sort-of like the Herald one) that you can buy and put up as part of your "gingerbread" .
The shop can be found by clicking on the "basket" at the top of any post. There is a 1 USD -> 1Þ exchange rate.
Each person who buys a badge will also be able to customize the hover text that people see for their particular badges. (Note: Only plain text is usable for a caption. Potholes and other wiki formatting will not work)
There are three slots under the avatar and above the "title" space to display them. You will be able to get to your gallery (where you can chose which ones you want to show and their order) by clicking on these slots.
If you wish to participate in making the badges, they need to be a max of 24x24 pix.
The only things we are completely keeping out of the store are symbols that are generally associated with any religion (the Yin-Yang and such are more known for other reasons), gender/sex/sexual orientation badges, and ones that infringe on copyrights. If you see things that you think do infringe, you probably don't have to worry about it. Those are images that don't match their originals (the heart container), are free-to-use, or the original copyright owner has lost their privilege to go after the "offending" images by not going after them in the past.
Please use this thread for everything badge-related.
The rest of this post is taken up by badge ideas, links to badges people have made, and default text ideas. NOTE: The list has not been updated in quite a while (and will probably never be) now that badge ideas/submissions appear naturally in the thread and go strait into the shop.

Thanks, Shima.
...More badges next time I'm on the computer, I promise. :/
Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman. It's time like these that the troll post needs its own badge. It works so hard for us. *sigh*
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI can split the middle by saying that it's half of a glass of water.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
We needn't care, since it's probably something incredibly stupid, anyway.
Back on topic, I'm just wondering: should there be a P5 badge? I mean, we already got badges for every other staff position, right?
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.I think Lock made the Herald badge.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWe could make the Zodiac badges colored in reference to the Homestuck trolls. Also, I notice that despite it being pointed out that the Chainswords and the Police Box are indeed copyrighted, they are still around. We should probably, you know...remove them. I mean, the point of the badge shop is to money, not to get what little we've got sued out of us.
I see you've made your decision. Now let's see you enforce it.How does "we should make stuff in reference to Homestuck" get said in the same figurative breath as "we should take down the stuff owned by other people"?
Fresh-eyed movie blog
That is the one thing we WOULDN'T need permission on. It's just changing the colors of zodiac symbols. It's only a homage. Not like Gaia and their godsdamn candy corn horns.

Nope. The BBC owns the blue police box image totally, and even if that were the case, we ARE using it in the context of "Look at this, like the TARDIS!" even if we don't outright say it.
About the chainsword:

I see you've made your decision. Now let's see you enforce it.I'd like to note two things regarding the Western Zodiac signs. One, we briefly discussed doing the Homestuck colored signs before, and we shot that down before due to copyright concerns. Two, they're currently colored based on what classical element they are said to represent, which honestly is much more wide-reaching and established anyhow.
For the police call box, found an interesting site that gives some of the backstory. Here
is the relevant page on the issue, including the Metropolitan Police's objection over the trademarking of the box. We dance the line due to the ruling on purposes of promoting Doctor Who... but it's worth noting that they did note that similar designs have been used across the globe and thus cannot be copyrighted. We'd probably be able to get away with using it so long as the default text did not mention The Doctor in any way, shape, or form.
I think that Games Workshop could only claim ownership of a chainsword specifically if nobody else had come up with them (several of their weapons cannot be copyrighted due to that). Any chance anyone did a chainsword before they could secure it? Any at all? (Also, strictly speaking, there is just enough difference between ours and theirs that we might be able to claim homage instead of plagiarism.)

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Even if we take out the little "or a Doctor" bit, it's still a TARDIS. People are buying it because it looks like a TARDIS. No matter how much we say it's a police box, it's a TARDIS.
However, changing it to a different color(like red) would probably fix that.
I see you've made your decision. Now let's see you enforce it.
