Although I did make the same mistake the Call Of Duty developers did; The Union Flag isn't symmetrical.

The Spanish flag usually has this thing to the left of its centre, though... A crest or something.

Spanish Flag sometimes, but not always has that, and this way looks better as a tiny icon. The crest isn't required. The crest is a variant design. The normal flag lacks it. Go go wikipedia.

The flags are kinda small though. At this size, flags with something in the middle (Like Mexico) can become REALLY hard to identify. Which can be weird with some countries with very similar flags. Syria and Iraq would be a doozy.

Of course, this assumes we go for a full set (and why not)

I wonder if custom, user-requested badges would work out, like for example, I might like to have a badge be a sandvich. Is this gonna work out?

Badges have a max size of 24 px. They're going to be tiny by necessity. I have added a few more to them. I'm making them as recognizable as I can.

I don't see why not. The inicial goal is to make some money and if some people are willing to pay money for a sandvich...

Adding that as a "other/interest" sugestion.

@ flags: I'm going to guess you started by making them 24 across and then adjusted the higth until it looked right. So it is possible to make them larger... but then they would look weird/out-of-porportion.

Question: how are you going to handle politically tricky situations? For example, the Vietnamese flag right now is red with a yellow star in the middle, but the Vietnamese diaspora uses the yellow one with three horizontal red stripes because many don't recognize the current government as legitimate. Make both?

I'm just getting the flags of wikipedia and the countries off of the map with troper locations. Also, I have made you a Sandvich.

As for how I made the flags, with a x1600 canvas and a mouse. I looked at references, but the images aren't resized in any way.

I'm not an art major for nothing. This is a legitimate website. I can put this stuff in a portfolio. Also, I'm having a blast. Any more suggestions?

Well I dunno if we want to allow people to have badges that show their political or other affiliations... Maybe not. (I was gonna request an "A for Atheist" badge but I think that might open up a slippery slope or lead to people diverting conversations to religions or other affiliations that badges might display.)

I wouldn't mind a badge with the logo of either FC Barcelona or Arsenal FC (my favourite clubs,) but that might infringe on copyright.

Be carefull what you wish for...

For the forums (there are a couple more options under the hottips in the OP):

I was thinking of a badge but I can't figure how to implement it or give it away. It would be for tropers who have meatspace family among other tropers. A very happy family with their lives enhanced by TV Tropes. Was thinking that the icon/badge could be a couple of person-figures.

Also, a "horrified face" badge: "I was here for the Great Crash.

As for other badges, for some reason I got the idea for a "I am left handed" one, but I think the idea is better fit for the merchandise thread.

You know how some of the namespaces have icons next to their tabs? (Western Animation has Felix for example) Could we turn those into the badges? Of course, not all of the namespace icons have been chosen yet, but it's a thought.
