I think that Darth Wiki was originally purposed to be a "darker" counterpart to /Main/. Then, some people got the idea of using it as a store for complaining like Wallbanger, Dethroning Moment Of Suck etc.
Sugar Wiki was allegedly create to balance this use of Darth.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSugar Wiki is for positive things, and while Darth Wiki started out as the place for negative things, it basically spiraled into the complaintfest it is today.
So, (2) for Sugar Wiki, (1/2 (but mostly 1)) for Darth Wiki.
If I'm not terribly mistaken, Darth Wiki started out as a Just for Fun Evil Counterpart of the main wiki, which had a lot of stuff meant to be Evil Counterparts of existing pages on the wiki — Worse Than It Sounds, Useless Notes, Tame Maverick Exposition, How Not To Write An Example and the like. But I do agree with you about the complaining taking over with Dethroning Moment of Suck, Wall Banger and So Bad, It's Horrible. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, I believe at least one of those pages began as the Evil Counterpart to another page (Dethroning Moment Of Suck to Crowning Moment Of Awesome, f'rinstance), but it ended up turning into a major complaint-fest in short order.

It was originally created as a Just for Fun area to take the excessive negativity away from the main wiki - a place to snark and complain, just like Troper Tales was created to remove "this troper" examples from the main wiki. However, most of those pages have since been cut for being flame-y.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I have to question why anyone thought something like Dethroning Moment of Suck would be a good idea.

So if I understand correctly, most pages that were the original purpose of Darth Wiki have been cut? That would put the existence of Darth Wiki into question.
No, the early complaint pages (the Just for Fun ones) like DarthWiki.Complain About Shows You Dont Like have been cut. There's a list in the Permanent Red Link Club of these.
Back in the day Darth Wiki and Sugar Wiki were used for Gushing And Complaining until the No Negativity rule got passed and people took every criticism to Darth Wiki. Their use has changed over the years, so I can see why people are confused on their use
Darth Wiki was supposed to be the dark counterpart. I made the ykttw for Sugar Wiki to make a positive mirror.
But it was also agreed on, repeatedly by Mods and Eddie, that those areas would be used to channel any opinions, even before the flat out "no opinions" guideline was declared.
So if people want to state opinions, they have reviews and those areas.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Darth Wiki was for the darker side of tropes, tropes that got used by creators when they went off the rails.
Then TRS started using Darth as a dumping ground for anything they didn't like, but couldn't get a "cut entirely" mandate for. I'd like to see a massive clean up operation to rehabilitate the darth, and get the tropes the TRS just wanted to dump placed back on the main. And a ban on having "port it to the darth" an option on crowners. I'd also like a pony. And some crispy curly fries.
To get these tropes back on main, we would need
- A way to fake-redlink that doesn't blueshift when it's edited
- Moderator powers to fake-redlink.
- A more suited thread for these.
We really don't need stuff like DMOS on main. Even before I knew the existence of TRS, these things gave me a headache and made me facepalm.
I'd like some fries as well.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerDMOS fits in perfectly on Darth, along with things like painting the hero black and complaining about shows you don't like (before people showed they couldn't handle that). It was intended to be an outlet for snark like that.

It seems that people can't really agree on what the purpose of these two namespaces are, but I usually see one of the two following definitions:
Those normally overlap, but, as the discussion of where High Octane Nightmare Fuel and Tear Jerker properly belong show, they don't always.
I think you could make a case for either definition based on what's currently in them. We do need to pick one, though.
