That is my hope. The Church, unfortunately, is nowhere ready to accept homosexual rights as of right now, but even if his personal views are against it, Francis' apparently more progressive views are a first step forwards. It may be several papacies before some compromise can be achieved, but I have hope.

This is the funniest argument against gay marriage I have ever seen.

Proposed changes to marriage would open the way for Star Wars Jedi to perform ceremonies, a church has said.

The Free Church of Scotland said the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Bill will allow groups promoting a belief to marry couples.

The government said the change was relevant to bodies such as humanists, who are classed as religious rather than non-religious at the moment.

A spokeswoman said the reputation of Scottish ceremonies would be protected.

The Free Church of Scotland has raised concerns about religious and civil partnership ceremonies being joined by a third category.

Church spokesman, the Reverend Iver Martin, told BBC Alba: "The third category is quite astonishing because it is the so-called belief category without really defining what belief means.

"There are loads of people in a diverse society like this for whom belief can mean virtually anything - the Flat Earth Society and Jedi Knights Society - who knows?

For non-Scottish tropers, the Free Church of Scotland, also known as the "Wee Frees", is a tiny denomination that holds sway in the Northwest Highlands and the Hebrides (the island chain off the northwest of Britain). It is very small, but reasonably influential in Scotland. It is the more conservative wing of Scottish presbyterianism.

Be mindful of the living force, padawans.

Only if you are a really hard-line traditionalist.

When Luke Skywalker founded the New Jedi Order, after the fall of the Galactic Empire, he chose to remove the ancient ban on Jedi marriage.

And that happened a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far away...

But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.

@Iaculus: I thought that ban was only for Knights and Masters, not lay members.

@Carcio: I preferred the Reform Jedi Order anyways.

...this is the most bizarre re-rail onto topic I have ever committed, but...what's the Jedi position on homosexuality?

Do gay people exist in the Star Wars universe? Maybe it's like Star Trek: "they exist, but the network won't let us show them"?

Did not some (silly) people complain because the latest Star Wars game allows for homosexual relationships between the protagonist and some characters? Or was it another game?

When my brother (Army National Guard) was choosing his dog tags, Jedi was an option. Apparently at least if he is KIA they'll try to treat the body according to the Jedi religion.

I have no clue what that entails, but it was a button to check.

Military prepares the body. They do not cremate or bury. They just get it to the family.

Some religions have requirements on how that body is to be handled though, like washing, hair cutting, who is allowed to touch, how the body is to be positioned, etc.

The military tries to honor those requirements.

I'm surprised about the Jedi military thing, because I don't remember it being an option when I went through boot camp, and there's generally so much hassle involved for anyone who's not Judeo/Christian I didn't think it was serious.

I believe there's a character in The Clone Wars cartoon who is confirmed in the expanded universe to be trans.

Interestingly she's a Hutt.

Hutts always seem to have interesting sexuality.

[up][up][up][up]When did you go through? Basically a few years back they was a push to get for people to put jedi on their census forms as a joke and it took off[1].

Basically if enough people say they're jedi they government has to treat it as if it's a real religion. No matter how blatantly false.
