DAMN Jhimmi, you should have a fire extinguisher handy if you're going to pass out burns like that.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this. The Vatican is nowhere near that end of the scale of progressivism. They're not going to magically change their mind on homosexuality before placing any of the building blocks that lead up to it (celibacy, ordaining women, contraception). I mean really now — I'd be as happy as anyone here if they did it, but let's at least have something approaching realistic expectations.
We make a lot of fanfare over the changes of leadership in our own government, which impoverishes entire countries including most of its own population, repeatedly funds bloody coups, sets up puppet governments, and has a direct personal profit stake in industries that commit outright genocide.
Look, I sympathize with the fact that you're personally targeted by one of the Catholic Church's major failings. I can't imagine what that must be like, and I want them to stop. But it's easy to lose perspective while picking enemies, even when you're right. Beams in the eye and all.

I'm researching the new Pope's views on homosexuality. I thought people were exaggerating when they said he thought same-sex marriage was a satanic plot, but:
Jeez.

boop
According to Wikipedia, it is as of 2010. In fact, it seems that quote above came from Bergoglio's unsuccessful campaign to beat the bill that legalized it.

boopYeah as much as a "live and let live" stance pope on gay rights would be a nice thing, we aren't there yet. For now I'd be happy with a couple of "live and let live" cardinals.
As for the fact that the change of leadership was a big thing, a change of leadership in any big organisation or state (and remember the Vatican is an independent country) is a big thing, from the US to China, North Korea and anyone in between.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWhilst his views on homosexuality are no deviation from the Catholic norm, the optimism from more liberal perspectives is over the direction he appears to intend to take the Church in. Less emphasis on bashing gay people and abortion, more on fighting inequality and cleaning up corruption. In theory, at least, this should reduce the pressure on worldwide gay rights campaigners.
What's precedent ever done for us?
