No, just the Fetishes pages themselves.
Or any similar gushing pages.
Pages that were questionable were not hit at all.
Quest 64 threadIf... If sixty to seventy percent of the forums have a good chance at utterly disappearing in the next week or so, shouldn't some kind of warning be up?
Ponders too much; thinks too little. Currently goes by Knowlessman.Only thing we have a good chance of disappearing is really the Avatars.
Forums would go well after that.
It's actually not a very good chance of happening. It's not a wanted solution, to note.
Quest 64 threadIt's not like the forums will be immediately cut as soon as word comes back and it turns out they're stopping the ads for good (probably). Better not to cause a stir until there's actually something to worry about. In other words, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...At some point soon — I suspect very soon — a calm, rational discussion needs to take place as to what TV Tropes is going to be going forward.
The major issue here is that the site has grown exponentially with no real planning for what TV Tropes is, and what content fits.
I've said a couple of times that content needs to fit "the mission of the wiki" — but let's face it, you could ask 10 random tropers and get 14 opinions as to what that mission is.
This probably isn't the thread to have that discussion. I don't think that doing so under the gun of another Google dispute is good, either. And, of course, Fast Eddie and Janitor have veto rights over the whole discussion.
But a discussion that leads to a decision as to what's desired here long-term will help. It would certainly give ammunition to deal with both the Wikipedia-style "we have to include EVERYTHING" users and the Puritanical "oh, my God, BODY PARTS" users... and would be extremely helpful in the face of future Google challenges. You know they'll happen, as the self-appointed Internet censors will continue to make them.
That discussion would also, I think, entail confirming and cleaning up the contents of the Administrivia section — and, frankly, a decision that other user-generated sites have had to face, which is "how young is too young"?
Once things settle down, let's consider coming back to this...
I am not a mod, and I don't play one on TV.I don't think we need to postulate any grand conspiracy by Google, it's more likely that they shoot first, ask questions later. To show people who make complaints that they're taking it seriously, and avoid potential legal liability, most likely.
The child is father to the man —OedipusConspiracy, no. Over-zealous (and under-intelligent
) automated scripts that handle a vast majority of complaints so they don't have to pay for as many actual people, however...
Just an honest question to Eddie (and Janitor, if he can communicate it to her on our behalf)... What chances does this site have to get something like this
to support its finances?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
I'm pretty sure it's been said before at some point that we're done donation drives before and it just didn't bring in enough money.
Also, I'm assuming that if we do ever have to kill the forums, we wouldn't kill all of them. Stuff like Yack Fest, Forum Games, and OTC would probably go first because they aren't really related to the purpose of the wiki. The media forums would probably last a bit longer, but still might get cut if push comes to shove. The workshops are an important part of wiki function, so I think they're okay.
Reaction Image Repository"Donation drives" are only a small part of what's described there. It's a whole foundation, not just a simple donation service, for one.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.![]()
Even so, it takes a fair bit of capital and work to get such a foundation started, and I doubt we have the resources to put something like that together.
They are independent from TV Tropes, I heard. That includes the paychecks.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere are, but the formatting would be quite different due to these fora being custom made for the site and using wiki syntax. All the free hosts would use BB Code for formatting/markup.
^^ That's an interesting idea. I wouldn't mind migrating to a different forum system, if need be.
^ Damn You, Muscle Memory! would be fully in effect for a while, but I don't see that being a big problem in the long run. The important part is that the community can still have its watering hole. Right?

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...The wikipedia model requires a fundraising staff to pursue grants from other foundations and other sources of charity funding. The banner donation drives there raise incidental amounts, comparatively. It does give the appearance of being grassroots funded. You have to be structured as a non profit to give the kind of tax breaks that interest charitable foundations.
Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty![]()
So that means "very unlikely right now" at best, "no chance at all, unfortunately" at worst?
Well, at least I tried to help...
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.

Didn't we move anything remotely questionable to the Fetish Fuel Wiki last time?
