- sniff* You could have announced it at least.
I am pretty sure it was because of creepy content and creepy examples.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah, exactly, that's another thing. I checked the forums for discussions, and there's nothing. No explanation, no discussion. Seems awfully arbitrary to me.
Squick, Nightmare Fuel and plenty of other pages have creepy content and creepy examples. So do pretty much all of the Rape Tropes, and there's an entire index for them. Are those gonna get wiped too?

Even if we decide to remove the proper examples, I think parodies and all that should be allowed.
See here. Basically, purging the Wiki of content that makes the site look like it's full of creepers and perverts.
And jokes about it too.
Except that the wiki is full of creepers and perverts. Everybody has fetishes. Everybody. One person likes Naughty Tentacles, and one person likes crossdressing. Who gets to decide what is and isn't creepy, and where does the line get drawn?
I thought we'd all discuss whether things got too creepy and try to fix them. But I guess I got mixed up.
No Lewdness No Prudishness is the guideline we use for.
Also, FE, please the next time you come across such pages take them to the Special Efforts cleanup thread. It was made to provide for such maintenance in a less controversial way.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman"Fix" them being the operative word. Not "wipe the page and lock it down, end of discussion".
"report them" is better. It's not his responsibility to fix creepy examples, to be honest.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI don't know, like I said, I don't usually get involved in cleanup discussions, but isn't wiping a page purely because one moderator, even Fast Eddie, finds it "creepy" a bit of a power trip? I know people who have gotten permabanned just for deleting single examples from pages.
He's the admin. Like a Physical God, so to speak. So yes, it's permitted, but a bit too controversial to do without any discussion before.
And these people didn't usually have very good reasons.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay, that's enough. There was a good reason for the removal of the content immediately, and it was not because of a power trip, laziness, prudery, or any other spurious reason.
I cannot go into details at the moment, but please trust me when I say this is the case.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Edit:due to ninja.
Also, I doubt this is a decision made by Fast Eddie alone. The edit history shows edits by other mods as well. So, I am guessing it was discussed among the mods.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI was just about to post to say the same thing as ccoa.

I didn't write any of that.Aaah! I see now. Maybe in time we'll be able to see why he did it then.
I'm not trying to incite drama. I'm just questioning the logic of Fast Eddie getting to delete whatever he wants, when he wants. If that's the policy, if Fast Eddie doesn't need reasons to wipe and lock any page, what's to keep him from abusing that power? What if he decides that the Furry Fandom page is "creepy", is that going to be the next to get nuked?
I'm not sure why he did it, but several people did say he had a good reason for it.
That's why you're supposed to trust him.
I didn't write any of that.Of course Fast Eddie has the power to wipe/modify/lock any and every page on the wiki. It's his wiki. As to what's to keep him from doing it: nothing except his own restraint. Which has so far kept him in check from doing any site-wide Godzilla style rampages, so I think we're safe.
EDIT: Ninja'd. At any rate, this wasn't a spur of the moment, one person with too much power hates the page thing. In case you guys have forgotten already, Eddie defended that page when the image was brought up as NSFW.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I will reiterate that given how Eddie basically said that the trope image was fine and we shouldn't go overboard in IP, he did not want to personally nuke it. Thus, I am inclined to believe there was a very good reason for him to change his mind, and we have ample evidence in our hands that the mods discussed it among themselves.
Sidenote: Never seen mod-hat Meta Four before...
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerThat was why I was surprised it was changed, since I thought he was cool with it.
So what happens if he stops exercising that restraint? As you said, it's his wiki. If he decides to, say, nuke the entire Not Safe for Work category, who's going to be able to protest?
Admittedly, I don't really hang around the forums discussing mod decisions and such, but I gotta ask...
Fast Eddie, what's the deal here? Why did you wipe the Naughty Tentacles page of all its examples? Did the site get a complaint from Moral Guardians or Google again, or something? Because that seems like an awful lot of content to just be gone in one day.
An explanation would be nice.
