Tex Murphy's Project Fedora
is live! Time to raise the dead.
With money. Lots of money.

Ok, I've been lazy, but now I'll do post again.
Few new projects:
Lodestar
reminds me of 8 bit hero for some reason.
Malevonce
, I'm amused at THE INFINITE RPG part
Projects I want to get funded:
Skyjacker
simply because it looks awesome. BTW, they have demo of the game so try it out and see if you are interested in it.
Edge of space
again, sprite based sidescrolling game? AWESOME. Also, space sharks with missiles.
Legend of the time star
, this is just something I personally want to see getting funded, its only one of rpg projects that is definitely not done with RPG maker. Plus I like concept art, its pretty basic but still stands out from other ones you see these days.(Most of rpg projects have only good concept art, but this one is at least sidescrolling instead of rpg maker one)
Xenonauts
yeah, it got funded already, but I want it to reach tileset stretch goals. It may not have that awesome Reaper Hive tileset anymore, but I'll be angry if it doesn't get three others at least.
Spate
again, interesting looking platformer with guy in gasmask. World needs more gas masks!
Haunts
because its macabre ;P
Projects I'm interested to see getting funded:
Portal
because its rather ambitious project plus idea is interesting. For those too lazy to read, its complete remake of old text based adventure game as 3d adventure game if I understood right.
Conquest 2
interesting looking aliens and apparently sequel to some game.
Deepworld.
Concept of it is pretty interesting so I think it does deserve to get funded.
Hermer Protocol
nothing but pretty cool looking concept art, which is why I'm interested if they can make a game.
Dark Meridian
Cool looking project hampered with fact it was 60 days project.
And finally, once again an example of project that is too badly planned to become reality:
Let's see, only concept art, short description and 20,000?
And I guess in the end it would end up being done with RPG Maker considering the other projects.
Ok, checked, Conquest 2 Vyrium Uprising is sequel to Conquest Frontier Wars. My interest is rising for that one. Reason 1: Vyrium are apparently lizard aliens. Reason 2: I have sympathy for underdogs for some reason
Though,
wikipedia has more information on that game. Apparently Conquest 2 was announced in 2004 and now has resurfaced through kickstarter. Apparently Vyrium are fourth race cut from original race that is going to make apprearance in this one.

The guys who made Kingdom Of Loathing are making another game!
It's called Word Realms
, and it's basically scrabble, but as a turn-based RPG.
I doubt
Deepworld gets funded, but at least developers plan to keep working on the game even though funding will fail.
Squad Wars
won't get funded, but has apparently gained publisher/investor interest.
Also, Void Rim.
Interesting project, pity its 50 day one, but it looks good and turn base games are cool.
You'd think
that this project would have at least 1,000, but apparently devs have forgot to promote their project in five days

Electronic Arts is waiving distribution fees
for Kickstarter projects that make their fundraising goal for 90 days.
That's pretty huge - getting a wide audience without EA putting their hands in their pockets for the most important release period.
Both sides win: EA gets people to try out Origin, the devs get a wide audience without having to worry about licensing fees for a while.
Jonah FalconAn interesting article I spotted on EDGE - Five ways to fail on Kickstarter
.
While I invite anyone to read the entire article, the five points boil down to
- Lack of brand identity, personality, or vision
- Not having a solid understanding of where you want your project to head, and expecting your backers to decide your direction for you
- Failure to clearly explain core value proposition or benefits
- Obviously, not being clear enough what your project is about, leading to lots of people taking a look at the project page, but ultimately failing to translated those looks into backers
- Differentiation
- The one I can relate to. "My project is a 2D RPG"; wow, fantastic, what's so special about it? Nothing? I'm sure my money is of better use elsewhere.
- Failure to generate awareness or engage potential backers
- Republique is probably the best example on how to do this correctly. Even when things were looking bleak, they still got out there, promoted their product, and kept people updated. That got them the buzz they needed.
- Unrealistic funding goals
- Stay as close to your actual funding needs as possible, but always estimate conservatively. Leave the fluff to stretch goals.

EA, you Magnificent Bastards.
Yup, pretty much. To that I'd probably add "Have something tangible to show" like a crude demo, some pre-alpha gameplay footage or even a trailer. Though that might fall into differentiation.
Good news of the week: Grim Dawn managed to make 537k
and accomplish all stretch goals, including the last minute ones. The game looks awesome. Just hope it's not as buggy as Titan Quest was.
Bad news of the week: Yikes
. I remember this project
. Was thinking of backing it too though I thought "Nah, this could backfire bigtime". Guess I dodged a bullet there.
...I'm still mad over No Time To Explain
though. Good thing they don't mention backers in the credits. I don't want my name associated with that disappointing POS more than it already is.

Well, it is game with dinosaurs.
I mean, honestly, how many games actually works with Everything Is Better With Dinosaurs? Turok? Well, not anymore
Anyway, how to promote Xenonauts? I really want it to reach its stretch goals.
I also want Edge of Space(even though it looks like some tiles are from Terraria), Conquest 2 and Skyjacker to pass.

I think that a preview video is a big part of point 1. Depending on how far into development you are, a gameplay video can clearly show what direction you're taking the game in.
This goes back to a point I made earlier in the thread, that if you're going to resort to funding via Kickstarter that you hold off on it for as long as possible. Do what you can with your own money first, so that when it's time to put your page up, you've got lots of work to show people.
What's Legendof the Time Star like? I'm looking for a good Action RPG to throw money at.
Likes many underrated webcomicsSomething that caught my interest:
Diamond Trust of London
is two-player DS turn-based strategy game. It's like a board game, but neither player can see what the other is doing, and at times the game will give you information on your players actions without them knowing. It can be played with DS Download Play, with the only benefit of using two carts being that the second player's can listen to the in-game music.
The game's actually done and approved by Nintendo; the Kickstarter funds are going to be used to meed the cartridge manufacturing minimum, as well as gauge interest.

And through some miracle, Republique is funded!
