"King Kai, if you save my life and leave Frieza to die on Namek, I'll never forgive you!"
Saiyan Pride. Never leave home without it.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarI'm aware, slim, but Goku's still unnecessarily miffed about King Kai showing concern for his life.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarThat Vegeta scene was also filler, but it's just too cool to leave out.
Toriyama recently stated that he intended for Goku to be a little more selfish than the anime ended up making him seem. This battle is one of the examples of Goku's true nature showing through the cracks.

That's right, boys. Mondo cool.Wasn't the original estimate something like 30 minutes until Namek explodes after Frieza fired the Death Ball? So, apparently, some 8-10 episodes = 28 minutes in the DBZ verse (currently, that is).
Yeah, I'm also aware of the Goku personality shift and whatnot. It doesn't help that Goku isn't just naturally vengeful because of Krillin's death, but he isn't (initially) pure of heart like he normally is while a Super Saiyan.

And just wait until we get to the Cell Saga.

Exactly. Goku cares about the earth, but fighting tough people has always been his overriding motivation.

I'm surprised Kai kept that scene in then. It confused the hell out of me the first time I watched it when i was a kid because I actually thought Freeza killed Goku there.
