Oh yeah true Mika needs more character but at least he isn't overbearing like Banagher.
He's the exact opposite really.
I would love to see Banagher pull this shit with Mika & then get an iron mace to the cockpit in return.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."@X 2 X Well then watch that last little bit of Unicorn, it's a doozy!
@slimcoder Gundam protagonists tend tend to have one of three personalities:
- The "Pacifism at any cost" types like Kira Yamato and Banagher.
- The Child Soldier types like Mikazuki Augus, Setsuna F. Seiei, and Hero Yui.
- The Rogue types like Garod Ran and Judau Ashita.

@ Alpha: That would be pretty cool, though the fact that the rights haven't been picked up now for a dub makes me wary.
@ Lennik & slim: They also exist in a much darker timeline and have been accordingly shaped by those experiences. Banagher is a civilian who was thrust into the cockpit of a Gundam he really didn't want anything to do with whereas Orga and Mika have been fighting to survive from Day 1, and Kudelia, like Mineva, is trapped in a political tango.
Don't get me wrong; Banagher's no favorite of mine, but I feel like everyone who criticizes him for not always having his finger on the trigger happens to conveniently throw out the fact that he's a lot like 0079!Amuro... who was also on the whiny and indecisive side (though he did more willingly take the RX-78-2 out for a spin to protect his colony).
Yes, it can be frustrating at times, but, IMO, it's good to have variance in Gundam shows and their protagonists, otherwise we'd end up with everything being like 0080, Zeta, Victory Gundam, and AGE—which I can't foresee ending well.

The rogue types are the more neutral ones like they'll fight but they prefer not too right?
Like I understand that Banagher doesn't like fighting & that he's a civilian so he shouldn't be there but he talks so much about this shit he sounds like a broken record. Literally every word out of his mouth is related to Audrey or some variation of stop fighting.
His voice doesn't help, it just sounds annoying to me, the tone or something.
I mean at least Amuro knows when to stop talking & fight when needed.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."@slimcoder: Pretty much. The rogue types are more neutral than the others. They usually start off as complete outsiders from society at large who initially fight for their own personal reasons, but throughout the course of the show, end up fighting for their friends. They still don't get too invested in ideology though.
@ slim: True, but you basically just outlined Banagher's whole deal. Put yourself in his shoes: if you were a teenager who didn't firsthand experience war but was willing to call out both Zeon and the Federation on their crap and were a Newtype on top of that (meaning you have some aspects of The Empath), how much resolve would you have to willingly fight all the time without getting some kind of motivation from an outside party or factor? The fact that Banagher even fights at all whenever Mineva isn't involved seems a little bit incongruent with who he is as a person, honestly.
@ Rojixus: Judau Ashta, too cool for school, but not quite Zeta Punch cool. Also got reverse-Char'd by Haman, which was... something.
@ Beary: I'm surprised Choji wasn't around to flip out at Naruto.
Poor Kurenai. Beyond the fact that her lover died in battle, she got shafted too in terms of battle prowess.
Wasn't her only battle against Itachi?

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarAnd to make myself clear, I don't mind that you're criticizing Banagher (the preachiness wears a bit thin for me, too); it's just that it feels like you're criticizing him a bit, I dunno, unfairly? (shrugs)
Still, if you dislike this kid, I'm sure you'd hate Quatre (my dad derisively nicknamed him "Total Pacifism" back during the old Toonami days) and Kira.
Huh I guess I just dislike him. There's nothing I like about him honestly so that's why I criticize him so much I guess.
Funny thing, I like Kira but mostly cause the Strike Freedom was my favorite Gundam to play as in Dynasty Warriors.
I haven't seen Seed in years so I no longer have an opinion of him.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."@ Rojixus:
@ slim: Can't fault you for that. Sometimes awesome MS are saddled with meh (or worse) pilots.
At worst, at the end of the day, we'd just have to agree to disagree on whatever.
SEED was decent from what I remember. I've never watched SEED Destiny, but the common fandom consensus is that it's a mess IIRC. You might be better off avoiding it unless you're really curious.
On that note, I'd best be off. Have to wake up early in the morning, which I'm not looking forward to.
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarUgh, I passed out last night for the entire duration of Unicorn. Which I was staying up later than usual for. Stupid schedule changes, good thing I can record it.
Gotta say, it was really, really nice to see Eureka Seven back on the block.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyYeah Eureka Seven is much j Harder to get into cause most of the cast are at the start are major assholes.
Besides he was clearly making a joke on how Banagher saved Audery during terminal velocity. At least thats what I'm assuming.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It was a joke about giant robots on air-surfboards, but Banana saving Audrey works as well, yes. Not that it holds a candle to E7's midair saves. Or even Hikaru saving Minmei for that matter.
E7 is among my favorite anime ever, rest assured I would never seriously compare it to Unicorn's drivel.

Man, I know it will never happen, but I would love to see Gundam Build Fighters on Toonami, its probably my favorite gundam series, not counting the mess that was Try.
