that reminds me when Toonami in Latin America grew some balls in the final years of their life. They turned it into a late-night block airing stuff like Love Hina,Ranma 1/2,Cinderella Boy(an obscure old manga by Lupin 3rd's creator that got a 12 episode anime in the early 2000's),Trigun,Animatrix,Samurai Champloo,Saint Seiya,DB/DBZ/DBGT,Yu Yu Hakusho and some movies like Memories,Metropolis,Cowboy Bebop Movie,Yu Yu Hakusho Movie, and they even had plans to show Ikkitousen(...I'm not kidding...)and Gungrave but the block died before they could...
Wow SteveBlums Face Book really has lite up with Toonami comments basically saying if you want it back thank CN for even airing it once and ask for more

Like it or not Anime as medium is dying in the states and in Japan as well. While there is no real reason, there is plenty of blame from Moe, to Follow the Leader plots to piracy but no concrete reasons.
Granted I think Toonami's slowly being cut and cut and then killed off contributed to this in the states but once again that's just blame without reason.

of the segments
from last night.
Not to be mean, but the new segments look a little off to me (largely because they're all cobbled footage from one episode of each show, save Trigon and the DVD ads.)

"Pancakes. Oh, I blew it." - Joel Hodgson Nobody better lay a Butterfinger on my 3DS!Definitely the funniest line of the block. Honestly, they should just replace [as]'s Saturday lineup with Toonami. But that makes too much sense, so I don't see it happening.

I'd hope so. As much as a nostalgasm last night was, I still want to be entertained by new property. After all, Toonami was almost singlehandedly responsible for the gateway into the anime boom of the late 90s/early 2000s. I'd probably say a 70-30 split between new and old, with older shows being rotated in and out on occasion. Kind of like how the Funimation Channel handles their lineup.
Amen to that.

"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarI wasn't expecting Astro Boy or Gigantor period (and now Gigantor's theme is stuck in my head.)
That sounds like a good idea. Have the newer anime take front and center and rotate some of the classic ones. Only problem is most of Toonami's (and Adult Swim's) old shows had a lot of episodes, and it could take a while for them to finish, especially if Toonami were restricted to Saturdays.

"Pancakes. Oh, I blew it." - Joel Hodgson Nobody better lay a Butterfinger on my 3DS!I really wish they'd do that Play classic Toonami with one or two of the new comers and new big anime.
I could easily see it going something like:
Bleach
DBZ
Trigun
Death Note / Full Metal Alchemist alternating
Techi
and the rest of the classics

Eh still want corners for new upcoming anime; like Tiger and Bunny for example, which I think would go over great with an American teen audience. Maybe they could also air movies, like say the Rebuild of Evangelion films.
I was one of the few that saw Toonami in it's early days (when Moltar was the host), and back then they often showed stuff like Thunder Cats and Johnny Quest in mix with Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z. Should Toonami come back for real, they could pull this off.
Not to get off topic, but what was your favorite show on Toonami? I liked Big O, G Gundam, and the original Dragon Ball.

How did I (and everyone else) forget Zoids?

Rebuild would probably be heavily edited if it were shown. They had to do so for the original NGE.
Favorite shows? I'd probably say Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, G Gundam, Big O, Rurouni Kenshin, Tenchi Muyo, and Outlaw Star. DBZ gets an honorable mention for the sake of nostalgia, and to its credit, it was pretty good.
Sadly when I majorly started watching Toonami many of the older shows weren't on anymore or didn't interest me at the time.
My faves were G-Gundam, Dragon Ball Z and Card Captors, Rurouni Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakasho
