Dear tropers:

I have only read the first Thomas Covenant trilogy and recently bopught the second and third. To those who have read the third chronicle, can I read it without the fourth having gone out, or does it end with a cliffhanger? In other, is the final chronicle a trilogy with a fourth book that will just add something, or is the fourth book necessary for understanding the other three?

To put it in a third way (curse my lack of clarity in english language!), do you knbow if the fourth book would be like The Return of the King (a necessary part of the Lord of the Rings) or like The Silmarillion (related but not necessary)?

Against All Things Ending (book three of the Last Chronicles) ends on a big cliffhanger. You can read it, but the story won't be concluded until The Last Dark comes out (probably fall 2013, if Donaldson keeps to his same rate of writing).

Thank you very very much, I guess I will read the second trilogy and then stop until the final book comes out :D

On the other hand, they're so bloody huge that by the time you finish the Second Chronicles and get through the first three books of the Last Cronicles, the final book will probably be out.
