So I bought the first volume of Dragon Ball digitally on Viz's sie. I also downloaded this scanlation project by someone/some group called Heidi's Army of Outlaws. All I know (judging from their website and the first chapter) is that they call her Buruma and then later we'll be encountering Tian jinfan.
Weird.
Still...it's the Kazenban or whatever, and it's supposed to be better than the original. Plus no Viz censorship.
I guess we'll see.
So who would be the smartest character in terms of both fighting smarts, and over all intelligence?
I'm rather curious now.
One Strip! One Strip!Super Buu is surprisingly crafty even before his absorptions and has a ton of battle smarts, but is pretty dull-witted in terms of normal intelligence. And Dr. Gero is of course a supergenius.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Going by the manga, Boo absorbed Piccolo to counteract Gotenks' immaturity. He was already pretty smart before that.
And yes, Piccolo definitely fits The Stoic better, mainly in the Android/Cell arcs.
@qtjinla Who's bashing?

I would take Viz censorship over terrible translations any day. They really don't censor much anyway.
The Kanzenban has a few extra pages for Pure Boo's defeat and the ending, plus it's on higher quality paper and has the colour pages. Aside from some fixes to mistakes in dialogue that's it.

I have only one thing to say to you, Master Roshi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo5Rhn8zuPA&t=0m30s
Not even the characters in Dragonball care about Dragonball.
How tragic.
Dr. Briefs, you fool! You've doomed us all!
Also I noticed something as I re-watched Vegeta attacking Super Perfect Cell with subs. I told you ages ago Saiga that a lot of people on Daizenshuu EX were bitching about the dub changing the scene. In the dub he talks about how bad he feels about Trunks being killed and how he had not paid him any attention or whatever.
With the subs, all he says is how he wants to be the one to destroy Cell. Obviously it's for Trunks' sake, for the sake of revenge, but he doesn't say anything else about how remorseful he is that he didn't pay more attention to his son and that kinda stuff.
I guess it is pretty different.
We're in agreement there. The old expression that goes you don't truly value something until you lose it is something most people understand and I say it's in full effect in that scene.
So Saiga, what's your take on the Androids/Cell Saga? You post a lot more in DB stuff than I do and I'm just wondering if you have any personal reasons or observed reasons why so many hate it. Well, consider it the worst in "Z". (Majin Buu tends to be the least popular but I can understand that. I can't understand teh Ce LL Saga hate)
I remember you being critical of Gohan's character in the Cell Games.
People who dislike it do so for various reasons. I personally think it's the lowest of the four Z sagas, but that's because I like the other ones more than any sort of dislike. And it's sort of a toss up between that and Namek for me anyway.
But several reasons why that segment gets disliked:
- The Androids being stronger than Freeza and/or the Super Saiyans
- Trunks' existence & claims he's a Gary Stu
- Bulma being paired with Vegeta
- Vegeta joining the heroes' side - this can be broken down further into:
- Vegeta being seen as a Karma Houdini
- Vegeta making things worse for the heroes
- Vegeta not being as swagilicious as he was in the Namek arc*
- The introduction of more Super Saiyans, and multiple Super Saiyan forms
- Time travel being confusing
- Changing the main antagonist multiple times
- People consider this the arc which sidelined the human characters
- Gohan defeating the villain instead of Goku
- Relatively darker and more serious than the other arcs, which some believe doesn't suit Dragon Ball
- Cell's motivations once Perfect are lacking
- The Cell Games also get some flak, not entirely sure why. Maybe because:
- It doesn't make much sense for Cell to do
- The tournament aspect is completely irrelevant
- Nobody thinks to gang up on Cell
- People hating on Goku for sending Gohan to fight Cell
Aaaaaand I think that's all of it.

Hm...well I can understand several of those. I mean my dislike for Goten and Trunks is probably just an extension of the "too many Super Saiyans" complaint.
I guess I can see a lot of those complaints, even if I don't agree with them.
Well the part about humans being sidelined in the Cell Saga is just flat out wrong. There are four human fighters and 3 of them were dead for the entire Namek and Freeza Saga. So they were sidelined long before the Androids.

I think the reason people don't count the Freeza arc for that is because they're dead. You can't really expect them to be important if they're dead.
Plus, they were training with Kaio which at least gave the impression that they were relevant. Also their was the filler of them fighting the Ginyu Force.
I did like that filler when I saw it a decade or so ago.
Ya know, thinking about the four human "Z Warriors", and how badly Yamcha always gets picked on, what about Chaotzu? Even during his introduction he was pretty weak. He only gave Krillin a fight due to his TK powers. (and a really hard head)
Chaotzu was by far the weakest when they confronted Nappa and he didn't even warrant going to the Cell Games. If Yamcha is a joke who lags behind Krillin and Tien, then Chaotzu is a joke to a joke.
Hey Saiga - or anyone else that might be able to help - , what do you know about the first 15 (or is it 16) volumes) of Dragon Ball being in color?
Someone linked me to the first two volumes in color and in English on Kanzenshuu but I was looking at the Dragon Ball wiki and it says they were only released in Japanese.
But then it goes on to talk about this You Tube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/MANGAPOLO
and it says applicable languages are Japanese or English. I have no idea what that means as it just looks like a bunch of videos to me (surprise surprise) and I don't see what it has to do with the manga being colored.
Reading over the thread again
it was just the Pilaf Saga.
Still, that's pretty neat.
Viz are jerks and only allow you to read the manga you buy online. Like, streaming or whatever. That's bullshit. I bought the thing so I should be able to download it and read it with C Display or something.
What if my internet goes out?
Bleh.
Yamcha is made fun of more because:
- He got taken out by a Saibaman.
- Chiaotzu isn't seen doing too much, while Yamcha spends most of his screentime either being humiliated or explicitly not fighting.
- Videos like this
. Read some of the comments, too.
- Gives up fighting and explicitly talks about being too weak to do much, whereas Chiaotzu is seen still training with Tien in what little screentime he gets.
- He's just more make-fun-of-able than Chiaotzu.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yamcha was kind of badass at the start, while Chaotzu never was badass. And it's easier and funnier mocking those who once were something and fell, rather than those who never were anything.
Also, Yamcha was dumped, while Chaotzu's true love never left him.

" Gives up fighting and explicitly talks about being too weak to do much, whereas Chiaotzu is seen still training with Tien in what little screentime he gets."
Isn't that just being Genre Savvy on Yamcha's part?

I remember reading some magazine as a child that claimed super Buu got smarter because he absorbed Piccolo. How true was this?
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.
