Have you ever wondered why Senzu Beans couldn't cure the heart virus?
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The Potata Earrings were broken.
...although, actually...almost everything in the Buu Saga was broken. Gotenks was broken. Being brought back to life was broken. Majin Buu's regenerative abilities were broken.
At least it was a somewhat even playing field.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Do you think Gohan's arm would have regrown if he had eaten a Senzu Bean?
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Gotenks wasn't really broken. Only Super Saiyan 3 was powerful enough with him, which reduces him to five minutes on-time and one hour off-time. And getting two people that match as well as Goten and Trunks would be rare.
I mean, Gohan later shows up with more power than Gotenks, no time limit and no transformation strain. And he's just one Saiyan instead of a fusion.
Potara really is super broken though. Too many upsides and the one drawback is also an upside.

Or maybe the virus was actually a mislabeled bacteria. Perhaps the senzu beans can't kill organisms, and in fact, provide the nutrients needed to help this bacteria come back stronger after repairing the initial damage.
What? Yes, they were. It's unlikely that even a week passed between Fat Buu's rampage and the final battle with Pure Buu on Kaioshin's world.

Other than for the fact that the only reason Babidi showed up was because of SSJ 2 Gohan, by the time Trunks went into the Time Machine, the time the Buu Arc would have taken place had long since passed. How did none of us notice this?
This shall be my true, Start of DarknessI mean, presumably Buu's pod would still be on Earth.
Trunks probably wouldn't be strong enough to handle Dabura.
He's also less likely to dick around though, so.
And SKOT was about to show up anyway, so she might help with something. Make sure his future doesn't get even more shitty.

What I mean is, Babidi arrived seven years after the Cell Games, right? Trunks traveled back 17 years after the Cell Game would've taken place. Even though Buu's pod is on Earth, Babidi would've just arrived to see a dying race and leave because the androids weren't strong enough.
This shall be my true, Start of DarknessThe Android also don't have Ki, so that would have made them even more useless.
One Strip! One Strip!Other than for the fact that the only reason Babidi showed up was because of SSJ 2 Gohan, by the time Trunks went into the Time Machine, the time the Buu Arc would have taken place had long since passed. How did none of us notice this?
I did!
It took the equivalent of 100 Buu Saga Gohans to provide even half the energy needed to revive Majin Buu. Seriously, Babidi lucked out that a) the Earth was populated by warriors so powerful than even Kaioshin was taken aback by their overwhelming strength, and b) they were silly enough to waste time playing his game instead of just blowing his pod open and murdering him like Vegeta wanted to.
After destroying the Androids and Cell, Future Trunks is the only person left in his Earth with a battle power higher than 10,000, and he still falls far short of Cell or Buu Saga Gohan - being oneshotted by SP Cell who, himself, is equal to less than 50 Cell Saga Gohans gives a pretty effective idea of where Future Trunks ranks in comparison to Gohan.
As you rightly pointed out, the time period of the Buu Saga was a bit under a decade prior to Future Trunks coming back in time. It's probable that Babidi has already reached Earth, realized that Buu's revival is more or less impossible to fuel given the power present on the planet, and contented himself to rampage across the galaxy with his awesome mind-controlled Dabura.
I mean, Dabura may well be Overshadowed by Awesome compared to Buu, but don't knock a warrior with power that rivals Perfect Cell. Frieza was the most powerful naturally-occurring lifeform in the universe, and Dabura makes him look like a joke. Even Kaioshin was intimidated by Dabura, which means he's not only more powerful than anything that exists in the universe, he's more powerful than the heavens too. Babidi doesn't really need Buu.
Reviving Majin Buu is a vanity project. He just wants Buu because his father did.

I actually read a pretty good fanfiction about an alien robot coming to earth with a field of energy that shuts off Ki. Some highlights: Tenshinhan and Chioutzu being some of the strongest characters because Tenshinhan mainly focuses on physical training and Chioutzu keeps his telekinisis, #17 and #18 being the strongest two by far because of their Android-ness, Fusion still kinda working and giving a good-sized power-up but with the downside that the fusion doesn't have enough energy to de-fuse and the fusion starts draining their life force, Kibito Kaio being useful as a fusion and a teleporter, and Oolong and Puar being exceedingly useful because of their shape-shifting. Special mention, however, goes to the greatest/stupidest moment in the whole thing: Oolong and Puar shape-shifting into Potara Earings to fuse Krillin and Piccolo into an unholy abomination of all four of them.
EDIT: Best. Page-topper. Ever.
