i've actually always liked the japanese op
for gt, myself. there might be some nostalgia involved, since i used to watch it on toonami.
Guys, of course Dragon Ball Super is going to have shitty animation. Dragon Ball Z had shitty animation back in the 90's! And it was still really damn popular!
One Piece can have shitty animation. Sailor Moon Crystal had shitty animation. Precure has shitty animation when the episode isn't important.
And they're big cash cows.
It doesn't matter how popular they are. Toei isn't necessarily going to put out more in the animation budget.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!
That as well.
I was prepared for crap animation, so I'm not disappointed.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Actually, Dragon Ball actually had a lot of the best animators in Japan working on it, and many of their episodes are considered ahead of their time in some instances.
Watch SymphogearDragon Ball had very inconsistent animation. They had some really good animators and some amazing cuts, but the occasional episode would be done by some very bad animation teams (including the infamous Triangle Crap group).
Oh and there's no confirmation the scan that says the name "Wine" is real - it looks to be taken from the Super Start Guide which had no name on it. Probably a photoshop job.

Whenever people mention Dragon Ball and animation quality, I just think of Dr. Gerodinger's Hand.
After Piccolo breaks off Gero's hand, the hand switches back and forth between existing and not existing for the rest of the character's scenes, until 17 kills him and we don't have to see the phantom hand keep flipping.
Here he is
◊ shortly after 17 swiped the 17 and 18's shut-off remote, which Gero had previously been holding in the hand that isn't supposed to exist.
Funny, but flawed. Vegeta declared, "Fuck this shit, I'm going training," not long after. He's not that great a contrast.
Still, the point about Goku dumping his family to go pursue his hobbies at the first opportunity stands.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Old post but I want to respond to it.
I mean, it's not Trunks who came back from the future to change things and save the world, nor Goku, the guy who's death he came back to prevent, but Gohan the guy who in original timeline outlived the rest of Z warriors by 16 years and didn't accomplish squat against Androids in that time, now save the day against much more powerful foe.
Also, Gohan's involvement in the arc prior to that was pretty small, so it's not like he was getting any special focus that could foreshadow it.
I think a lot of it is people started to give DBZ a revisionist take. That was the birth of the whole "Gohan was the real main character after all." And a lot of the antagonism I see towards the Buu saganote tends to revolve around Toriyama shooting that idea down.

That's because it didn't sit right with a lot of people. Or Vegeta, as the fan-beloved "bargain sale on Super Saiyans" line indicates. Even the characters in-universe thought Goten and Trunks becoming Super Saiyans so easily was bullshit.
Between that, Fusion, and Gotenks mastering Super Saiyan 3, Goten and Trunks got a lot of free power-up hand-outs to catch them up to the other protagonists. Many people are critical of this, but forget the many free power-up hand-outs that came before them and got the protagonists as high as they are now, especially on Planet Namek.

I don't get why we're saying Wine is anywhere near as weak as Western Supreme Kai.
I'm not against the idea, but where is the proof?
