Next time, maybe don't leave your villain completely unattended while you go pursue side quests.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub....I don't know, he does have those Frieza genes.
- CELL: In ten days, I will hold my tournament.
- Ten days later
- GOKU: Hey Cell, um...quick question. We were all very busy training for the tournament and lost track of time. Just so we're on the same page, how much time has passed?
- CELL: I approximate four hours.
- GOKU: Perfect, that's what I thought. *teleport* We're cool, guys. We still got loads of time to train.

Cell is the patron god of LEGO Genetics, having taken the trope Beyond the Impossible and acquired things that aren't even biological aspects at all.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Frieza was tortured by reliving his defeat at the hands of the Super Saiyans Goku and Trunks, IIRC.
For a creature of pride, reliving your failure over and over is a worse torment than anything so pedestrian as physical pain. Toriyama's Hell is much more clever than the traditional Fire and Brimstone Hell.

And now you can dangle Frieza's eternal torment from your keychain.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Is Zenkai a Voodoo Shark? It seems like Toriyama partly put it in to explain why Goku was always stronger when he got defeated...except that was never really a Plot Hole. There were always legitimate reasons. When he got defeated by Tao and Piccolo, he ended up going to Karin and getting some new powerup. It didn't need a genetic explanation.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!![]()
Yes.
What Goku's Saiyan genes should (and do) account for is that he grows at such a phenomenal rate, surpassing the greatest martial artists on the planet before he finished puberty, abruptly mastering complex techniques just by watching other people do them, and far outgrowing anything his planet could possibly challenge him with by adulthood.
That he always bounced back stronger didn't need a genetic explanation because he always had a plot-based reason to bounce back stronger.
The protagonists explicitly make the connection when it's explained to them. I want to say it's Vegeta explaining it on Namek and Krillin making the connection of, "Oh yeah, that's why Goku always came back stronger every time he lost," but I can't recall for certain.
It's a Hand Wave for Vegeta and Goku's ridiculous growth on Namek, but - just like how Dr. Gero is a new character masquerading as a returning nemesis - it's a new mechanic pretending to be a longstanding aspect of the franchise.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The movies only make sense in any continuity if you assume that some of them take place in an alternate universe. The Cooler movies are the easiest. Goku just returns to Earth much sooner/lets Shenron bring him back.
Bojack can't be canon, because as I've told Zel, if Bojack is canon, fuck you Gohan, you irresponsible shit.
