Chi-Chi is probably the worst character in the series. She's the only member of the main cast whose presence is actually detrimental to the plot.
The joke about "Gohan's studies being more important than the fate of the world" got old fast. Although she does get a bit better in the Buu Saga. At least, it's implied she is. It's not like she does much, but...
I do hope Videl gets to do something in Super, besides being a housewife. She had personality when she was introduced. Removing all her spunk makes her incredibly bland. (and I know this was a conversation like 10 pages ago but I was on holidays so yeah I need to catch up)
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!I hate Chi-Chi and everything about her.
I mean, to give her some credit, I don't think Goku training Gohan what little he could before the Saiyan Saga would have changed much but.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! It's hard to even appreciate Chi-Chi's points (and she does have points) when it's clear Toriyama is going out of his way to make her unlikable. I mean, we get to the point where people like Yajirobe are asking Goku permission to hit her!
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Chichi hate seems to come from people who just don't get the motivations behind Chichi's actions. They're all very easily explainable and make a lot of sense when you consider that Chichi's protecting Gohan from the world that nearly killed Goku a number of times and has gotten his friends killed before and that she trusts that Goku can handle whatever baddy is menacing them. Of course she would keep Gohan from training to help with the androids - Goku can handle it, like he always does.
And I'm fairly sure that she would not stop Gohan from training if he actually wanted to, and might in fact even HELP train him. But the thing is, Gohan does not actually want to fight, and she is perfectly aware of this fact. Even as a little kid, Gohan wasn't into violence.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariShe tried to stop Gohan from going to Namek in order to bring their friends back to life. Not because it would be too dangerous but because of all the school he would miss. Every time Chi-Chi objects to Gohan getting involved, it's because he'd miss school.
It would be fine and understandable if Chi-Chi had those as motivations but she doesn't. Nowhere does it ever even suggest that those are reasons.
There's also the fact that she didn't give two shits about the fact that Goku died trying to save Gohan (yes, he can be brought back to life but even Krillin, who had been revived, was distraught by his death for a bit) and, after the fight with the Saiyans, she didn't give two shits about Goku who she also hadn't seen in a year and was in far worse shape than Gohan. Hell, she even had the audacity to blame Goku for everything that happened to Gohan.
Chi-Chi is simply an unlikable character in every possible way.
Also, Gohan has never had a problem with fighting. After he adjusted, he got into this training with Piccolo just fine. He was perfectly fine with training with Krillin on the way to Namek and had no mental problems in regards to fighting Freeza's goons. He wanted to train with his dad and Piccolo when Future Trunks gave them that warning and made them push him as far as he could go. He actively wanted to fight the Androids. When he trained with Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he forced Goku to fight him seriously and push him beyond his limits. He had no problem with the idea of fighting Cell, he was just afraid that he'd lose control and destroy the Earth.
Gohan has never had a problem with fighting.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Vegeta was kind of a dick in this episode, I mean, compared to how he was in Bo G and the end of Z.
This shall be my true, Start of DarknessRe: Saiyan biology
Adult saiyans' tails don't grow back. Vegeta's an adult, so his tail isn't coming back. Did you see how pissed off he was when Yajirobe cut it off?
It's not reflected sunlight that changes them. Apparently, the moon converts sunlight to Brutz (fruits) Waves, which is absorbed by their retinas, which makes their tails release a hormone that transforms them. It's not something they'll ever be able to control unless they cut their tails off. The power ball is just concentrated brutz waves.
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Oh.
That's a shame. I thought it'd be interesting to see them be able to control when they changed.
Anyway, Caught Super Episode 2.
Beerus is in fact a dick, stealing that dude's fish.
The reasons for the family trip is a nice Call-Back to the Buu Saga (it's easy to forget that this takes place shortly after that), even if Vegeta ended the whole thing by being an ass, and now we're seeing the remaking of Battle of Gods.
Hoping to get through that and Revival of F quickly, so we can get to the new stuff soon.
One Strip! One Strip!Chi-Chi not wanting Gohan to fight because he's worried about it and he thinks he's too young would be fine... if that wasn't completely false.
Trust me, I don't like it either, but Toriyama was clearly trying to portray that Chi-Chi was a selfish, unlikable character who cared more about Gohan becoming a scholar than having the world safe. This isn't hyperbole. It's pretty much stated in all her dialogue pre-Buu. And if something is stated in the manga, it's true.
With Gohan and fighting, I don't think he was opposed to the very idea. He liked training with his dad and Piccolo. He just didn't like hurting others. And he didn't want to actually fight without something to protect.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!I wonder how many people realize Chi-Chi is a Joke Character that should never be taken seriously :\. Between her over the top reactions and, I don't recall if this is filler, her husband comically smacking her through the wall into a rock. Like come on people.
Like the hate for her never made much sense to me; I'd understand if she actively hindered the plot, but she's never taken seriously, by the characters or the narrative, so what the hell....
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Chi-Chi hate just seems like plain old sexism though. It's really not that hard to understand why a mother would not want their kids to be in such dangerous situations.
It's also not hard to understand why she'd want him to study, go to college and have a good job. It's really not that hard to see her point of view.
And just like that, I'm taking the emergency exit out of this conversation.
I'll have my time machine on standby, just in case.
But I will leave you guys with the fact that Chi-Chi prioritizes Gohan's studies over the fate of the world.

Eh, they all seem pretty good with the way they are. Why change?
