GT reused the same reason Gogeta was acting silly as why Vegetto acted silly against Buuhan, which was that they were trying to taunt their opponent into doing something to their benefit. Vegetto was taunting Buuhan to absorb him so that he could save the people inside, while Gogeta was taunting Omega Shenron to, well, I'll just let him explain it:
I mean, for starters. It's a question of timing. Cooler's Fighter Z appearance is already out.
The new Gogeta and the new Broly have some data in the Xenoverse game already, but that data seemingly won't actually unlock until around when the movie releases. When you time your releases to coincide like that, it can be a coincidence, but. Its less likely.
Plus, the stuff with the theatrical rereleases of Broly Legendary, Bardock daddy, and Fusion Reborn. Which I think come with Super Broly trading cards for Heroes.
Bit of a misname considering none of those Xeno incarnations are actually in Xenoverse.
Isn't the "real" plot of Heroes that it's a video game some kids are playing? Like. Beat and. Some others?
Or, like, a simulation or VR thingy. Possibly (?) part of the Pan Fighting Network from Online.
Like, maybe the Supreme Kai of Time leaked some stuff or funded the game and let real information in there, stuff about Fuu and Demons and the Time Patrol and whatever.
But the plot of Xenoverse is time BS, and last I heard is that the plot of Heroes is that it's all a video game.
With the additional story and stuff like Prison Planet in Heroes presumably being the plot of the story mode of that video game.
I guess, since we're assuming that the theatrical airings of Broly Legendary Super Saiyan, Bardock Father of Goku, and Fusion Reborn are promotional for the Broly movie, which has Broly and Paragus and Mind Control, and Bardock and Freeza destroying Vegeta and Goku being sent to Earth.
Maybe Janemba will defeat Broly.
Or Hitler.
Some bits of the new Super Broly might be similar to bits of Legendary Super Saiyan, and similar to Bardock Father of Goku, but not the same either.
I dunno exactly how much the Fusion Reborn comparison will tie in. If it's just Gogeta, then. Honestly I'd be shocked they went with Fusion Reborn and not a theatrical cut of GT.
How popular is GT in Japan, anyway?

Not very much when it aired but the Dragon Boxes for GT sold more than the Z ones
Most likely owing more to the fact that Z was already piss easy to acquire in Japan while GT didn't have as many home releases.
But it was still enough to sell the boxes.
Also, according to Geekdom's video, Veku appears in the movie in the same vein that he did in Fusion Reborn, and Whis is stalling in place of Paikuhan (but he's untouchable unlike Paikuhan getting his ass kicked by Janema). So it sounds like that IS a pretty close usage to Fusion Reborn.
...How wrong is it that I want Whis to seemingly effortlessly catch Broly's fist, and smile and go back to dodging, but the moment he's out of sight of Broly and Goku and the others he winces and shakes out his hand.
Like. Broly still isn't actually strong enough for Whis, but still hurts him slightly. Barely.
Also, for me there's a question of why Whis is helping, when I think it's said the most he's allowed to do is train people.
In the Super Manga, Whis says "We Angels must remain neutral. We can never fight."
Goku asks if that means Whis won't help them even if they're going to die, Whis says that's correct, and points out that we never see him fight outside of training Goku and Vegeta.

As long as it involves stopping the Go D...is fine.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Whis is almost certainly helping solely because he wants to see Goku and Vegeta fuse.
This song needs more love.New All Systems Goku
They're still sick of Babadi, but they're enjoying Buu so far and thought Vegeta's whole sacrifice arc was really well done.
Yeah, Whis claimed to be neutral so that his presence wouldn't kill tension but the writing really hasn't stuck to that so it doesn't work. If you're going to have an all powerful character that doesn't get involved in the fights they REALLY have to stay out of it.
I really wish they wouldn't keep Beerus and Whis so far above the characters that they can't be involved in the plot withiut killing tension.
Like, Broly spends the movie being a huge threat to Goku and Vegeta and forces them to resort to fusion. Aaaaand then before they can do that Whis shows that Broly isn't a threat at all. Kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the climax of the movie.

Make them truly apathetic to Earth's destruction and that's all better.
Them being involved in the plot is negative.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. They had to create the whole "Kais and Destroyers are life linked and so are angels to their destroyers" so at least there is a way to take down Beerus and Whis. But that only happened in an alternate universe.
If they tend to create a villain stronger than Zamasu/Jiren/Broly, they will have to kill Shin first.

Does it though? It does a good job of showing just how far beyond the angels are to everyone else. I see no problem with that, why should Broly, a random, destitute hobo Saiyan even be in the same realm as Whis, who is undoubtedly millions of years old (and all the training and experience that comes with that)?
True, Whis hasn't truly remained neutral (not even remotely really...), but I don't think him no-selling Broly dehypes the climax in any way. It's still Goku and Vegeta's fight to win or lose. It's not like Whis is killing Broly in a single blow or anything. I get waaay more excited seeing Whis in action than Broly.

Presumably for the same reason no one was hype for Resurrection F. When you have characters around that clearly can handle the situation with ease but they just aren't because....then there wouldn't be a movie, that tends to affect some people's enjoyment.
Not everyone's, obviously, but I don't think it's hard to understand the reaction.

Honestly I don’t expect anything “cool” to ever happen from the Angels.
Because the way they look & act, you can tell they aren’t fighters.
Just powerful beings who can get on by with reality-warping abilities thus enabling them to disintegrate anyone without lifting a finger.
I mean Whis revived Frieza just by tapping his staff. They are so casually powerful that they aren’t really fun.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That's why it's good for them to have such passive attitudes.

The problem being that Whis actually did something, instead of the fight just being won.
You got people who "would want" them to do something if they are there, but no, that just defeats the purpose.

They seem plenty capable as fighters, since they train their Go Ds after all. And Goku and Vegeta have trained with Whis extensively.
They have crazy hax, along with extreme strength/speed on top of that.

Because it really deflates the tension when your big bad villain is easily punked by another character so easily, and that the only reason they aren't a bigger threat is because said character chooses not to get involved.
It's the same issue Ressurection F had (among other things...), Freeza's destruction of Earth is completely undercut cuz Whis just is like "Lol redo". Hard to care about the conflict when you already know there are two characters there that can solve it.
I don't even mind Beerus and Whis` involvement if they actually committed to being neutral, but the writers always have them involved regardless and it just destroys the tension. I actually really liked their appearance in Fighter Z where they showed up and were like "Not our problem" and peaced out. That's how deities should be, why should they care about a conflict among mortals.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.

Then you remember how silly he was in GT
