Gohan's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to goku? It's funny cuz it's true!
I'll point out that the part about "letting him go so he'll be a better opponent later" doesn't work for the abridged, because that's not the reason that Goku said to let Vegeta go in this version.
His actual reason of "he said he's sorry so we have to let him go" is also stupid and was more a shot at one of the dubs for changing Goku's motivation in that scene.

Yeah, I still like the series but when I said they were more or less a different dub of Z now, I didn't just mean that in a positive sense. You don't have to look any further then how they portray Hercule to see how significant the change is now compared to when they started. There's nothing significantly different or exaggerated about him, he's exactly the same here as he is in Z. He's the perfect microcosm of how the back half of the Namek Saga and the entire Android Saga has been abridged.
Compared to what they did with Recoome, the wrestling jokes were nothing. An issue I've been having with them is that it's just hard to take seriously most of the time. I keep expecting a joke to come in during a serious moment and then none do.
This song needs more love.TFS is on it's way towards being an "official" dubbing studio, so I feel their "serious" moments are reflective of that as they want to be known for more than just making a gag dub version of DBZ.
Whether their transition to the serious was for the best or worst depends is entirely up to the person.
Personally, I still think their funny moments are great, but their serious moments aren't that much different from the original to really give them merit.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I'd say that the little speech Kami gave before being absorbed was probably better.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSome of the fighting dialogue is more badass "These parameters... ARE ACCEPTABLE."
I've noticed that the serious moments they're most likely to get right are the ones that were kind of weak in the original (a lot of the mid-cell arc BS for example they did really well).
LSBK, you're right. I remembered them having Goku state both motivations for some reason, but you're right, he does only ask Vegeta to apologise.
I guess we could be generous and say that Gohan's just extrapolating Goku's real reason (he was unconscious when Goku let Vegeta go, after all). But that's being generous.
(also, whew, it's so easy to forget how that fight ends with Krillin nearly stabbing Vegeta to death with Yajirobe's sword. I love how brutal and no-holds-barred the Vegeta fight is, really getting down in the mud and the dirt.)
I will say I do miss them being willing to completely use serious moments in the original as a joke (Freeza's PTSD flashback of Goku, complete with his demand for Pizzaaaaaaa is one of my favourite examples). They're a lot less willing to do that now and I kind of don't like that.
I will agree that Mr. Satan is completely unchanged from the original, but I honestly can't think of many ways that they could have used him differently. I guess maybe they could have made him the real deal, but have him genuinely get affected by medical problems so it just looks like he's faking?

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"I think they've just been consistently bad for this season.
They can do some good one-liners - but they're incredibly cheesy and wouldn't work with a serious tone - and the Piccolo/God talk was good.
Otherwise, they seem kind of stuck in this lull where the situations are portrayed semi-seriously but the dialogue is too silly to fit. And the end result is just waiting for a joke that never comes, it's the worst of both worlds.
Satan is different in DBZA - because he continously makes references to his daughter. It's one of TFS' attempts at having greater continuity that ends up being pretty obnoxious because it only works as we already know his daughter will be relevant later.
And for their extreme love of cobtinuity porn this season they can't even maintain consistency with their own version.

I'm still mostly okay with the dialogue because while admittedly more serious, I still think they're mostly trying to be funny.
Which is also why comments about them "being better than the original" rub me the wrong way - if I was reading or watching something that was trying to be taken mostly seriously with this dialogue, I'd roll my eyes so hard they'd pop out of my skull.
Admittedly, I do think there have been sometimes when they've added more pathos to a scene that the original (again, see the Piccolo and Kami pre-fusion conversation) but mostly those moments fall flat-to-annoying for me.

I think we're supposed to believe the Omniscient Morality License is in effect.
These are beings that have likely been alive for billions of years. That kind of experience would be unfathomable to a mortal being.
Billion of years of experience means nothing if they don't actually do anything meaningful during that time period. They're evidently not all-knowing since Zamasu was able to do his thing, him being entertained by fighters beating the snot out of each other in a gladiatorial death match isn't faked and the supposed test of character is the worst one in the history of BS that supposedly "wise" characters has ever done.
It's also way dumber than the original reason for the tournament - basing the decision to blow up all universes on the choice made by one mortal out of all of them selected for their fighting capability is completely ridiculous.
At least the death match for entertainment was an understandable motivation. As is allowing the universes to pick representatives that best displayed the qualities needed to survive.

How often does it become night in Z period...?
