I think the biggest reason I'm okay with Broly is because we were already getting a Saiyan villain who I was assuming would have a unique form and power making sense of them would be difficult.
The fact that it's Broly means it probably won't be a new form and can tie into existing stuff like Kale and potentially get some sort of explanation to it.
That's probably better than getting some random new Saiyan who is baaaasically Broly anyway but needs a new form which doesn't get a decent explanation at all.
I'd much rather have Broly than Cumber 2.0

Well, the reason I thought it wasn't Broly is that anime/manga stuff is more likely to introduce an expy (see Char Clone or hell, Kale is a good example) than actually reintroduce a character with a retconned backstory like Western comic adaptations.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"One thing I've been thinking about is 17 and 18's writing. There have been two arcs that placed focus on these two: the Cell Saga and the Universal Survival Saga, and the way they're written is a bit different between the two arcs, even factoring in the decade of character development.
In the Cell Saga, they're written as a pair of shitty delinquent teenagers drunk off their own power. Their lack of empathy feels more like teenage apathy, and 17's desire to drive trunks is played off as him trying to be a tough guy, compensating for his effeminate appearance. They do bring up the idea of them not being attached to humanity, but only in the context of their power not limiting them as much as it does for humans.
On the other hand, in the Universal Survival Saga, they're written so cold, calm, and unflappable in the face of danger that it's almost creepy at times. They do seem to love their significant others and each other, but they clearly feel detached from the rest of humanity. They have a conversation about how it's hard sometimes to love their spouse, and 17 wanting to take his family on a cruise is played more like an attempt to show his love for his family in an outward manner. This was also shown with the episode where 18 worried over what present to get Krillin to show her love for him, and Bulma had to explain to her that Krillin doesn't need presents to know that 18 loves him.
Which portrayal do you prefer? Personally, I prefer the latter, and as someone with Asperger's, I related to the latter characterization much more too. I actually think they would've been more effective characters if they were written like that from the start.

So Masako immediately rushed out a vid about the Broly news:
Pretty much what I think really. This could go well, or it could go disastrously even with Toriyama behind the wheel.
His version of Battle of Gods was good, but Revival of F was flawed no matter which one you watched.
And of course, Minus still haunts our souls as well. Ultimately, we have to just wait and see, and employ some cautious optimism.
One Strip! One Strip!Amusingly Broly hasn’t been much of a thing since his triology all those years ago which round around 25 years.
Ever since then he’s just become a fan-service character like other popular characters become with the most focus he’s gotten recently was in Heroes I think.
So really after 25 years maybe it’s time to give the big green galoot another shot on the big-screen.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I think it was Goku's mom. People didn't like the idea that Goku's mom was the saiyan version of a housewife, because they expected something more from someone from a race of warriors, or something along those lines.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Pretty much.
Goku's mom was revelead to be such a weakling that shee needed her big strong husband to save her powerless ass all the time & was a special Saiyan because of her ability to feel kindness & empathy.
I never expected or wanted Goku's mom to be important or a character but I preffered to think she was just another run of the mill Saiyan, not some good kind mother cliche.
But its the intended effect that she is a housewife, especially as she cooks all day for her husband when he gets home from work.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Then why couldn't she be a construction worker or Hell even a medic?
Why specifcially the one job that involves making you look like you are cooking for your man?
Because its just another example of Toriyama's problem of making wives into housewives who do all the cooking & cleaning for their husbands.
A trend where Bulma is literally the only aversion.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The one job that involves cooking for your man would be a personal cook. Just having a job that involves food in some way does not equate to being a housewife. She wasn't even chopping meat for Bardock, she was chopping meat that was hanging on meat hooks at a meat distribution plant!
Also, Krillin does the cooking in his household.

No, it's just gross. Because she's a girl.

There are several reasons I dislike Broly; firstly, he's a Saiyan as opposed to more interesting designs like Janemba. Secondly, before Jiren was a thing Broly was basically the personification of the things I didn't like about Dragon Ball. Thirdly his backstory is really, really dumb.
But what we were going to get from this movie already ticked box 1 and Super basically guaranteed box 2 was ticked, so whatever, and apparently box 3 might be getting unticked. So honestly the only change is that his fans are happy, which isn't that big a downside for me.
Honestly, what I'd love is the heroes to go to great lengths to protect Beerus and fail, then when Broly reaches him Beerus just does a "Hakai" on him and poof.
