I mean, really, I could buy that as reason if any attention was drawn to the Zenos or El Grande Padre caring about the actions or attitudes of the fighters beyond "that was cool!" but it didn't happen.
And rather just being decent people, most people in the tournament were portrayed as either really smug or downright sadistic, probably so that U7 didn't look bad.
You're wrong on both accounts. Plenty of no-name (that I care to remember) fighters showed sadistic glee when beating people up, and prolonging a fight just to do so. And when you're gloating about how you're going to win, when winning essentially means that everyone you are fighting is going to die, yes, it is dehumanizing and callous.

I really don't get why, every time we have this argument, you feel the need to mention that some of the competitors were smug. As if smugness has a great deal to do with moral quality. Literally all of Team U7 acted smug at one point or another, usually when they had the upper hand.
Talking to someone is inherently not a dehumanizing act, unless you're specifically telling them that you don't care about them. Giving exposition about your power is not dehumanizing.

Because it does? Because rubbing it in the faces of people that you think are going to die is immoral? And you're the one who always goes "most of the people in the tournament were nice and moral people" when my point is that, no, we weren't actually shown that.
It doesn't mean they deserved to die but that's not the same thing as them being shown to be good people. I think the issue is with you not being able to separate those two things.
Edit: And also that you equate confidence with smugness, is annoying. Goku is confident, while Vegeta is smug. Those are not the same thing, and I'm not even saying everyone from all the other teams were like that. But enough of them were that is was incredibly noticeable.

Okay, I literally don't understand where you're coming from. Almost none of the competitors said anything to their opponents about them being erased, and I don't remember anyone specifically rubbing it in or wanting to eliminate them specifically to erase their universe from existence. I have no idea where you're getting the idea that "talking about and taking pride in your abilities" is equivalent to "mocking and rubbing it in that your opponents are going to be erased".
If you really don't understand how all gleefully bragging and how you're going to beat your opponents into the ground and survive, and how they have no chance, in this situation, is the same thing about bragging about how they're all going to die, I don't know what to tell you.
I'm not going to challenge your personal narrative anymore, even with the glaring holes, because I know there's no point.

There really, really is, because it's about intent. If your goal is to survive, than your feelings on the other universes being erased is unknown but it does indicate that you have a survival instinct, which is normal and natural. Someone saying "I want to survive", even if their survival is based on the death of others, is an entirely neutral position that builds sympathy in reminding that they are a person too. If your goal is to erase others, than you are a monster who values murdering others over your own survival. Someone saying "I want to erase you from existence", even if erasing the other teams leads to your survival, is an entirely negative position to take.
I remember a lot of innocent strangers desperately fighting to stay alive, not a lot of sadists cruelly fighting to see entire universes get wiped out at their hands.
We know that it will be exploring the history of the Saiyans and Freeza, and that the main villain is a Saiyan wearing Freeza Soldier armor and a fur coat around his waist with a green aura.
It's generally assumed that the history explored will be the story of Yamoshi, and unless some resurrection shenanigans go down or the main villain is a ghost, the Saiyan in question can't be Yamoshi because Yamoshi is dead. He's probably someone with a connection to Yamoshi, either his descendant or the descendant of the evil Saiyans Yamoshi was fighting.

Anyone think it's a bit weird how open Bulma's parents are with Vegeta? They meet a year or so after he tried to destroy humanity, but that doesn't stop Bulma's mom from flirting with Vegeta for a bit. Vegeta knocks Bulma up doesn't care until a couple years later(or at all in the Bad Future), they just like having a grandkid around.
Also, people need to remember that Bulma's father hasn't aged either. The mom isn't the exception, she's just more noticable because she's the more attractive one
I started watching Super finally (spoiler: it's pretty awesome), and this occurred to me while watching the Frieza arc. Do we have a trope for characters who put on an air of refinement, but are actually really filthy? I don't mean Faux Affably Evil, Frieza is pretty clearly a sadist who gets off on murder and mayhem. But there's such a contrast between his speech and his actions. Let me make a list:
-Frieza is gross and crass: He eats random animals he finds on the ground. He spits up green gunk when he returns. He'll crack his joints like a low-class Saiyan thug before delivering the beat-down. Honestly, Nappa seemed less disgusting, and he ate bug people. Beerus has better table manners.
-Frieza fights like a thug: it's a major plot point that Frieza is untrained, and it seems to me that his fighting technique is really low-class. I don't just mean that Frieza is fond of grand displays of power, but that he also fights like his thugs, laying into his enemies like a brawler. The only time he uses precision is when he's torturing someone, or when he kills someone so quickly the fight is over.
-And of course, Frieza's like a child breaking things for fun, but we already knew that.
Any thoughts?
Being reminded of the early stuff, man it is amazing how far the series came animation wise.
Like while the same can't necessarily be said writing wise, the first arcs really looked like absolute dogshit, its fucked up early production state causing such wonky art & piss-poor fight animation so bad that Shida the man responsible for some of the best looking moments in the franchise had a hand in the infamous Goku vs Beerus fight.
It really makes you look at the end stuff & go "DAAAAAAAAAMN, this shit is awesome."
Hopefully the next show doesn't start out so terribly especially since were getting that new animation style for the upcoming movie. We better be getting some good looking shit here.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."If Toei is smart, the next show will be a seasonal one instead of an on-going since seasonal is the better practice in every logical way for everyone.
Of course, this is Toei so who knows.

Gloating doesn't dehumanize, and the only torture going on was from Freeza and Frost.
