I've always liked the idea that Oozaru actually held them back and was why Super Saiyan was so rare. A 10x boost is enough to wreck practically everything they came across, especially if they were in groups. This probably kept them from doing really intense training and lowered the amount of zenkai boosts they would have gotten otherwise.

[up] I don't think Zarbon and Dodoria are enough to say their species as a whole were stronger than Saiyans. They could have been mutants like Freeza or just highly exceptional. We do only ever see them as members of their respective species, unless I'm mistaken.

Zarbon and Dodoria were definitely top members of their species - but so was Vegeta, and he was only 18'000.

[up]x4 Funnily enough, in the story mode of budokai 2, Babidi does revive back Frieza and Cell and actually puts them under his control. Only for them to be absorbed by Super Buu xD

Frieza's higher up goons were all mutants, and not to be taken as indicative of their species. The Ginyus, Zarbon, and Dodoria, maybe even the grunts.

Frieza loved them mutants...for their power.

You know, seeing the talk about 17 and his barrier, I can't help but wonder how strong it was meant to be in the manga.

Like most techniques, Toriyama only ever had the character use it that one time against someone as strong as he was, so we have no idea how he'd have intended it to fair against people much stronger than him.

It'll be interesting to see if Toyotarou has 17 use it, and if it's power is as great as it was portrayed in the anime considering how it's rare for weaker techniques from certain characters to mean anything.

What if 17 used the barrier while being absorbed?

That would've been something.

I think he didn't get a chance because being eaten caused him to panic.

At least that's what I'm hoping and it's not that Toiryama just didn't think of it.

So Raditz was a weak punk at 1k, Vegeta was an elite at 15k

Where was the much spoken of average saiyan warrior?

Around Nappa? Couple k weaker?

I don't think we ever got what is average for a Saiyan since both Nappa and Vegeta are supposed to be elites warriors.

Bardock and his team low class warriors that has a high powerful levels due to their combat experience.

Goku was super weak as a baby apparently, but was supposed to be capable of taking earth by himself because of the moon.

Hmmmm...

They definitely underestimated Earth then, even with the moon.

Well, it might also be that Saiyans are just naturally tougher than humans, so Goku could get a lot more out of his Ki use. It would explain how he can tank bullets and axes to the face with a power level of 12.

Then he learned how to actually use Ki, and the others were just totally outmatched.

I don't know if we care about Dragon Ball Minus (is that what it's called? The story with his mom), but they mention that being an infiltration baby has a low success rate, which I can buy. Vegeta told Goku that they send weaklings like him to planets like Earth, and that he was basically thrown away.

So from the Saiyans perspective it would be a win either way: either they purge weak blood, or the experience is actually successfully and they get a better Saiyan out of it, and a planet to sell.

Average saiya-jins can't be much more than Freezer's average soldiers...

Bardock beat up some mooks, but got one shot by Dodoria.

While his team got wiped by said mooks.

So, hold up, quick continuity question. Cell came back in time by using Trunks' time machine. Why did he come back in time at all? Was it that he was from a future where the Androids were destroyed so he needed to go back to a time when they were alive to achieve his perfect form?

The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]

Yes, Trunks had deactivated them and destroyed them in the timeline Cell was originally from.

There is a previous iteration of time travel we never see, where Trunks goes back in time and figures out how to stop the androids somehow without becoming strong enough to match Cell.
