Yes, but we're not supposed to be thinking "they're children" we're supposed to think this makes them profound or smarter than they look. I'm not really sure what's hard to understand about this.
The story was trying to do something, and failed. It happens, and people are free to complain about it. If you don't care, that's fine, but that doesn't mean being annoyed by it is wrong.

I always find that reasoning really insulting to children, actually.
It's certainly possible to analyze things too deeply, but you don't have to look very hard to see what they were going for, or say that they failed. This is the kind of thing that would have bothered me when I was 10, at least.

Oh don't get me wrong, I hate when shows talk down to children (like the Pokemon anime deliberately leaving plot holes unresolved because "kids don't care about continuity), but even with that in mind... there's kind of a limit, y'know? I'm not talking about the kids themselves here, either - I'm talking about the show.
They really shouldn't have treated this tournament so seriously then.
If your having a cosmic horror death tournament & most of the opposing participants are not mindless monsters then there's a certain level of respect & tenderness needed to handle it.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."And then we go back to Very Melon's comment just now. Rinse & Repeat
I mean, what I find funny about this is that the choice can be easily chalked up to the writers realizing how much of an asshole they were shaping up the Zeno's and Grande Padre to be - something we all realized when he was literally playing chess with planets back when Goku told him about the tournament.
I don't really care about the intended reaction or how deep Dragon Ball actually is - I just really like to analyze how badly the writers managed things from the start. It's also one of the reasons why I find funny how Jiren flip-flops so much on characterization and how much Kale/Kefla flip-flops on power. They just can't seem to agree in what they want us to think hahaha. That's the entire reason I find the manga to be much more palatable - there's not a clash of ideas and writers, just one guy that tries to make the outline work, and even with Toyo's mistakes, it's a lot more consistent.
I'm waiting and hoping for the super saiyan form that gives Goku unmoving plaid hair
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

People are really looking too deep into this. Especially since it's Dragon Ball
