Dragonball is the story of people doing things that end up not mattering for one reason or another, so it's nothing new really.
Another gaping hole in this scenario: even a "decent" person couldn't be counted on to make that wish because they'd have no reason to think the Zeno/Grand Priest would let them do that. For all they'd know, asking would end up getting them and their entire universe erased. Not wanting risk that does not make one a terrible person, especially when they had no control over this tournament in the first place.

A good person might try. Expecting something like that, and saying otherwise a person isn't "good" is entirely unreasonable given everything about the situation.
Not that I think this necessarily matters for 17; with his nonchalant attitude concerning the entire situation, I wouldn't be surprised if just shrugged off everything getting erased with an "Oh well".

That's the question.
Would you make a wish that would surly piss off your Gods & get you killed or don't bite the hand that's allowing you to live by making a relatively harmless wish?
Your not a bad person if you don't make the wish. This is a horrible situation that would break anyone after all.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Zen'o is smarter than we thought, but he's still a child and doesn't think things hard enough. It's why he can't get anyone to be his friend besides another Zen'o and Goku. If he knew he was The Dreaded, he'd try to be a lot more tactful.
I thought it was pretty clear that if the person didn't wish for the Universes backed they were going to destroy all of the remaining ones. That seemed like the only wish they would have found acceptable. It's an even worse position to put someone in, than the tournament was in the first place.

So you think if I wished back one just to test it they would still erase us both? The SDB can be gathered down the line to restore the rest. Also I really don't see how you get in this situation and then just wish for a boat or something for yourself. Not saying anyone is bad for worrying about the consequences but I don't personally see how you would try anything else. In universe though I can see exactly why there are only two options. But that's all I'll say, I don't want to come off as judging or condemning anyone's values.
I never said that 17 wouldn't be a bad person for wishing for a boat in this situation. I'm saying him being a shitty person shouldn't automatically be treated as saying anything about Universe 7, or mortals in general, which it seems like they were going to do for whoever won.
You're arguing against something I never said.

Like I said before, this twist puts the blame firmly on Goku's shoulders once again. Zeno clearly wasn't planning on destroying the universes anyway and this tournament put all twelve of them in danger.
This song needs more love.Yeah, the writers choosing to make this into a Secret Test of Character doesn't really make the Zeno's or the Grande Padre look like less of grade A a-holes, if anything, under scrutiny it makes it worse because now they're condemning the entire of the remaining universe just because the winner may be a shitty person. I would be alright with the Zeno's still being immature and quick to delete everything that bothers them instead of trying to make them appear smarter (it literally just makes them look worse).
Well the winner is the 'best' mortal. So if they are a shitbag no one else is worth it anyway. Even though they are equating best with strongest or best at surviving, but it is shonen so that is kinda how these things go. Or they were gonna erase everyone from the start like they said but had so much fun they threw in this 'twist' to make themselves look better. Probably Zeno didn't care and GP was pulling good PR.

Who cares, it's a funny joke to make.
