GUYS, I THINK I'm GAY
THAT SAIYAN DESIGN IS JUST SO HANDSOME I WANT HIMT TO DOMINATE OH GOD HE IS SO HANDSOME HIS ARMOR IS BEAUTIFUL HIS HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL HE IS BEAUTIFUL SCREW CAULIFLA I WANT THIS GUY TO MAKE ME FEEL GOOD
....
Sorry.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.I like the way Toyo is managing the tournament. Then again, I'm a sucker for consistency, so it's obvious that fodders like Tien and Krillin stand absolutely no chance against someone like Frost going all out early on, and from what we were shown, neither does most of U9 (Bergamo was defeated by Piccolo). It also fixes my main complaint about the initial phases of the tournament, Goku & co erasing universes willy nilly. Here Frieza is the one that reminds Piccolo that they're fighting for their survival, because, let's be honest, having the survival of an entire universe in your hands is something that would freeze almost anyone on the spot.
He has made the tournament seem like a real battle royale - chaos all around, the weaker fighters getting eliminated early and stamina being a real factor. Also gave weight to the universe eliminations. I stand by saying that the manga is much much better than the anime. It's a shame that the fans of the characters feel screwed, but TBH they shouldn't have been on the tournament to begin with. They were there only to fill a quota stablished by Toriyama.
Probably no the right pothole, but I wasn't sure what would work better.
I do admit, it does make sense for the weaker characters to be tossed out, but I think that if you were just gonna fodder them, then you should have used other characters.
I've argued against Goten and Trunks being there, but I admit, they'd have probably lasted longer than Krillin and Tien did. Future Trunks definitely should have been there, and Then there'd have been room for Buu instead of throwing him out like Toriyama seems to enjoy doing.
If he thinks he's surprising us by having the characters who usually get taken out first get taken out first, then he's really not aware of just how much he did it.
But yeah, after all the stuff and issues with the anime, I admit, the manga is cutting right to the chase (and doing a better job of not making Goku look quite as callous as the anime did).
One Strip! One Strip! The manga continues to be disappointing and boring, no surprise here.
The new villain of the movie definitely appears to be a Saiyan, based on his armor. Not Super Saiyan 4, if you look closely, there's no fur on his arms. He just has a fur coat wrapped around his waist. Maybe Yamoshi? Probably not, though, since his armor is of the modern design.
Agreed. I like that the anime tried to do something with them, but they really shouldn't have been there in the first place.
One Strip! One Strip! We already know how strong Frost is from his previous appearance which I'm assuming is similar to how it was in the anime (namely weaker than Super Saiyan Goku, but far stronger than Piccolo, who is a Super Namekian, but more powerful than an untrained Super Saiyan).
Of course he'd take them out right away if he went straight for them. We've been reminded again and again and again that they are not in the same weight class as the higher tier fighters. Sure they might have done well if they'd had a chance to find dudes they could take on, but Frost didn't give them that opportunity. The most unfair thing about it is that Roshi is somehow still in the running when Krillin and Tien, who are both stronger than him got taken out right away, but Toriyama seems to love Roshi right now, even though he retired him years ago what can you do?
One Strip! One Strip! There's no reason for Frost to take them out before they even get to fight anyone, and there's no reason why weaker characters from other universes have to be vastly stronger than them. It's just spiteful and boring. Frost and Gohan looked cool in this chapter, but that's all I'll give it. I like the idea of Frost targetting the Humans since it kind of happened in the anime and that could be expanded upon better, but the Humans should at least get a moment to shine before he takes them out, otherwise what's even the point of having them? If you're going to bring back fan-favorite characters for a massive battle royal tournament, you have to do something with them, not completely waste them.
On the teaser, I've never liked that stance of Goku's where he looks way over his shoulder. It feels awkward and definitely not conducive to fighting. I can't even do it, though I'm not surprised that Goku's flexible enough to.
Loving that Toei is embracing the Web Gen of animators for the new Dragonball movie.
Watch SymphogearIn fairness, Roshi's had some of the best moments this tournament (and one of the worst).
I just think in a tournament of wildly varying power levels they should all have time to shine.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"That'd be way too contrived with how big the power level gaps are. Like a less-sensible, paper-thin Eigen Plot.
I'm glad the manga eliminated them quickly, though it is annoying that Rossi looks like he'll receive special treatment again. And yeah, this shows that you should have just had more fitting characters.
But that was always the case.
The manga thread over on Kanzenshuu ended up getting locked due to the rage, which is funny.
Yeah, it seems that a lot of the rage stems from fans of the characters, and people that wanted the manga tournament to be as flashy and "hype" as the anime version. Except that flashy and hype without good storytelling behind just sucks. You can only have so many supposed "hype" moments before it starts weighing down your entire story. As I said before, this tournament benefits much more from having tension instead of mindless hype.
Yeah I get that it 'makes sense' for them to get knocked out easily, but what is the point? Why bother having 80 characters if the strongest people knock them out before anything happens? Could've just cut it to like 20 characters from the beginning then. It is completely pointless. Having characters around for no reason isn't good writing either.

This is almost as bad as those fake spoilers that said that Gohan would be eliminated first by trying to attack Hit and phasing through him and falling out of the ring. The difference is that this is real. It's simple writing logic, you don't have a team of beloved characters and then have two of your characters get eliminated without doing literally anything. This sheer level of callous disregard doesn't usually happen in Dragon Ball, with the exception of Battle of Gods, where literally everyone got beaten without doing anything and that was the whole point.
Hell, there was even a whole interview with some Toei guys who talked about how Toriyama including the Humans in the team must've been for a reason and they put some serious thought into hyping up the Human's techniques and skills to defeat a couple of opponents before they got defeated themselves. Tenshinhan vs the sniper duo looks like a masterpiece of writing next to the manga, and that was one of the weakest episodes in the anime.

Just read the latest chapter of super.
Not much to say; as I pointed out, Tien and Krillin's performance is more consistent with how you'd expect them to be used, but it also kinda makes you wonder why they were there if it seems like Toyotarou was just trying to get them out of the way as quickly as possible.
Edit: As for the movie teaser, I've always preferred Goku's 23 Budokai / Saiyan Saga / Namek Saga gi to his Cell Saga gi, so I'm quite happy to see him in that get up, especially since he canonically never went Super Saiyan while in those duds (though the anime had Vegeta Imagine Spot him like that, and there was also Yo Son Goku and his Friends return, where that was his choice of garb), since by the time he did it, he'd lost his shirt.
