Oh friend. The Fairy Tail thread didn't become as venomous as it did because we weren't turning our brains off.
I know I was doing that, and the series still utterly disappointed me after a while. Fairy Tail failed at everything it did...even being mindless fun.
....and yet, I'm still gonna watch the anime when it starts up again.
Super, no matter how poor it's been, hasn't failed so hard that I've utterly hated it yet. I've wished it could have been better, since it had some good ideas, and even some concepts that were different for dragon ball (Gods who actually live up to the hype; a Knight Templar villain rather than someone being evil for the sake of evil; and the completely different stakes of the TOP), but they've done a shit job executing those arcs.
Edit: What ![]()

One Strip! One Strip!I'd almost be willing to bet that if there is a new series or something following Super that Vegeta has also picked up ultra instinct in the time skip
It's what he does
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI will say that I don't quite get the logic behind continuing to watch something you hate. You only have yourself to blame in that case.
This song needs more love.I mean, I can kind of see the argument that we've already seen UIO Goku vs Jiren... but we haven't really. They barely fought in 110, we only got a taste of Ultra Instinct's power there. This episode was needed to show how UIO stacks up to Jiren and also show Goku's gradual evolution into the full Ultra Instinct. And it has been a gradual evolution. Since Ultra Instinct first appeared, people have been talking about how Goku's punches are constantly getting sharper and stronger in the form, and that was continued here.
Goku's speed and agility in UIO haven't changed since it first appeared, but his attacks have gradually been getting stronger in its every appearance over time. He's hitting harder at the end of Jiren, Round 1 than when he first transformed. He hits SS 2 Kafla harder at the end of their fight than he did when he first turned UIO, she goes from brushing off his punches to getting matched by them. Finally, here in Round 2, Goku starts off at a slight strength disadvantage, but he slowly catches up to match Jiren and surpasses him right as he perfects Ultra Instinct.
Fair enough.
I think I stuck with FT out of a curiousity towards how it would end. It was just hard to give it up to be honest.
Even now, it's weird to think it's over, as it's disappearance left a hole in my reading. It was weird for it to just not be there you know.
One Strip! One Strip!DBS isn't interesting enough to use the "H" word...

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I got the first 40 volumes of Fairy Tail pretty cheap in a humble bundle
I thoroughly loathed everyone by the end but at least hitting that last volume meant I was free
Forever liveblogging the Avengerswait you can get manga out of humble bundles
edit: I don't like Super, but I still like Dragon Ball. I want to know what's going on. And like, I'm not generally having an unpleasant time because my expectations have been set so low for the series because it's consistently poor. It's just whatever.
We didn't really need UIO vs Jiren even if their previous fight was short, because Jiren's strength has been so fluid that it doesn't really show anything. The part about Goku getting used to his attacks was a minor part of the episode, which was mostly just a flurry of blows back and forth and recycled animation. Could have easily done without that. Another fight of UIO vs Jiren could have worked if we hadn't spent SO many episodes fighting Jiren in Blue/Kaio-ken/base and still had time left to dedicated to full UI.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. You expect them to retcon that wonderful ending that people seem to dislike...?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I also have noticed a load of people on youtube being really hyped, and I vaguely caught a glimpse of that while watching for myself even though the rest of me was somewhat unimpressed.
I think it's sort of like Avatar (the movie, not the tv show) - it's very shallow but it appeals to something very primal in us very strongly. Dragonball's usually something that can manage that, at least.
That's particularly why it's easy to get drawn into the hype.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Gonna derail the conversation a bit here...
I'm super glad that Xenoverse 2's DLC pack made Dabura a main villain. I always thought he was really cool but terribly underutilized as a character. Like, the fact that he was as powerful as Cell naturally was neat! And the focus on the Demon Realm? Also neat!
So the fact that he lives up to his name as king of the demon realm in the dlc is satisfying. I don't even mind that they handwave his sudden powerboost from Cell-level enemy to God-level enemy (although I'm not complaining, something called the demon realm should have power fitting its name).

Well in my case my very first manga I read was Fullmetal Alchemist, and almost everything else from there has been below that said grade of quality. As such, I learned how to turn off my brain and just enjoy the ride and fun of certain stuff, because leaving it on turns yo into a writhing cynical whirlpool of endless dissapointment. a quick peak at the Fairy Tail thread can tell you that.
Thats not to say that stuff cant be criticized. Just don't expect top quality from something thats more about the fun and hype.
...I wish I could word this better. Anyways: REALLY cool episode, especially the end points. although considering where Goku is now power wise, Im wondering if this is going to be the end of Goku as a lead character now.
