Gohan did kinda care. He was surprised when they just flew off. It was Piccolo who pointed out that Goku and the others doing that wasn't a shock.
One Strip! One Strip! The vast majority of the people in this tournament acts like sanctimonious self-righteous pricks, completely full of them-self & completely idiotic. Sure there are slight variations on said prickery but its like putting little toppings over the same ice-cream, it doesn't add or change much.
Only like a handful exhibit personality traits that are not generic & amazingly one of those people is the guy who fucking murders people for a living.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm gonna see how the manga handles how others take the tournament.
Although the part where Team Nerd is left on their own has been kept, so we'll see if Toriyama wrote the other characters in the tournament acting the same way.
I really wish there'd been more continuity between versions. I mean, c'mon people. start one first so you have a blueprint, and then do the other one (mainly manga then anime).
Toei could, with some stronger coordination from Toyotarou and Toriyama use filler to fill in some moments (hopefully without contradicting future points that the other two come up with this time), while the manga sets the proper groundwork.
One Strip! One Strip!Gohan being the leader was a cool idea but I think it was a Toei addition that clashed with parts from Toriyama's outline (like half the team running off at the start).
I don't think the Super Balls are enough of a motivation for the main cast to participate. Stuff like Gohan coming back to fighting should involve an actual threat, especially if the series is ending with no threats after this. And Freeza coming back makes no sense without dire stakes. I'd rather the characters be written more sensibly.
They HAVE a blueprint. They just don't stay consistent to it.
I'm glad the anime and mamga are different because of this.

Have they ever been written sensibly?
We constantly point out that characters make really dumb decisions even in the Z era.
Hell, while that one video posits it as them wanting a challenge, they basically decide to not prevent Gero attack by finding him three years earlier because Goku and Vegeta want a fight.
They are written consistently, but I'm not sure about sensibly.
One Strip! One Strip! As much as people get on Vegeta's case about Cell, I kind of wonder if Goku would have done it any differently.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe problem isn't how our MC's act....... mostly....... okay yeah they are a problem.
A problem is that everyone in the tournament including people from outright different universes born to wholly different lives acts exactly like them.
Its just a very lazy way of character writing.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'd say that Goku would do it differently, because letting Cell become perfect would mean sacrificing 18. And at that point Krillin didn't want to deactivate 18, and she hadn't really done anything, so I don't think he'd be cool with going along with that.
Though even without that, I'm not sure he'd be no board with the whole "absorbing people to get stronger" thing.

He probably would have...or I like to think he would, but what anyone in the series does is shaped more by what the plot needs than anything.
But hey, that's why it worked, and that's why we're here.
One Strip! One Strip! He also let Vegeta go just so he could fight him again sometime. Well, actually, Krillin let him go, but at Goku's request, so that kind of counts. Are we giving Krilin crap over this decision, btw? I totally feel we should, despite it turning out okay in the end due to plot magic.
So yeah, on the one hand, I'm sure that Goku would want to do what Vegeta did. One problem however, is that he'd have to allow 18 to be absorbed. Though it wasn't clear at the time that 18 had switched sides, I doubt Goku would be willing to just sacrifice her like that.
He would definitely not fight Trunks over it. Or anyone else he brought along for the ride (Gohan, probably, because in this hypothetical scenario, Goku and Gohan probably went into the timechamber first and gone after Cell together)
d to hell and back. That's what I get for actually having to think about it.

To be fair, some of Universe 7 isn't treating this with the same level of gravitas it deserves. Bergamo was completely right in saying Goku wasn't behaving properly. Android 17's grand wish is a boat(you know, something BULMA'S MONEY could accomplish). Frieza is...well, Frieza. It's as if the people in the tournament can't contemplate how horrible the tournament really is...or are acting this way to keep Zen'o entertained.
I have kept track of the participants who show compassion towards universes other than their own, either through their behavior or goals. They are the following:
- Universe 2's Jimeze. He says to Gohan that he hopes to see him again, meaning he either naively hopes Zen'o won't commit mass genocide again, or his wish is to restore the universes
- Universe 7's Vegeta. Explicitly wants to wish back Universe 6
- Universe 9's Bergamo. He's disgusted by the stakes and tries to convince Zen'o not to destroy the universes, not just Universe 9
Wellll.
In the Buu Saga, he claims he totally could have beaten Buu with super saiyan 3 (proved hilariously wrong later) but that he didn't want to. Because. Because passing the torch. To Gotenks.
So in the meantime, have fun terrorizing the populace. We can just wish them back, ha ha!
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt would have been better to just say he didn't think he could do it before his time ran out.
But Toriyama didn't think of that at the time. It's easy for chuckle heads like Handsome Rob to do it when they have years to think about it, but at the time, it simply might not have occurred to him.
Hindsight and all that.
One Strip! One Strip!
x5
Android 17 initially mentions that he doesn't care if the universe was erased, so he only really cares about the dragonballs. Also, I don't think Bergamo was necessarily being sincere in trying to keep all the universes alive. He only said that to make himself look good in front of the Gods of the other universes and make Goku look bad at the same time.
He wasted his effort. All you need to do to make Goku look bad is wait.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersDo you guys think Toriyama would ever consider a Reboot / reimagining for the series?
Sort of a chance to start fresh with a more clear direction. Maybe a few abrieviated or combined arcs like in the movies, and stuff like that?
I don't expect it myself, but I'm curious as to what he'd do differently if he could do it all again.
One Strip! One Strip!

How is it humiliating if no one, including Gohan, cares?
