The biggest is that Goku vs Frieza took five minutes

In that case, the second biggest lie should be that Gotenks vs. Buu took five minutes.

The real biggest lie was that Gohan and Gotenks were the last chance to beat Buu.

This song needs more love.

Manga Jiren is actually doing things. Wild.

That said, I kinda like the way the anime started the tournament off more, with people from other universes doing things and eliminating people. Here it's just U7 cleaning house.

Interesting differences. The magical girls start off transformed here. I don't think that Imp pride trooper had wings in the anime. Universe 3 does poses! And it looks like they're setting up Ribrianne vs 18 early.

[up]Yeah I liked how chaotic it started off.

Lilibeu looked pretty cool for the minute or two of screentime she had. Prum and Harmila had a good and interesting concept. Saonel and Pirina were badass. Maji-Kayo was great. Katopesla was entertaining as hell. Jim just has a great design. Jimmies had a really good personality. Monna was pretty cool as a heel. The Trio De Dangers were great and their brotherly love was palpable and did much for fleshing out their characters. Koitsukai, Panchia, and Bollarator had fantastic designs, foreshadowing a combined form without ever hinting at it through dialogue.

Also, Frost is still evil in the manga, apparently.

Toyotaro gives a whole lot of...definition to Vegeta's muscles.

Disappointed Piccolo didn't throw his weighted clothes on top of someone for a quick KO.

Yeah. The beginning of the tournament in the anime was a bit more chaotic, and people besides U7 got eliminations first.

The anime started the exact same way the manga did. It's not actually different, the obvious pacing adjustments needed for a monthly manga just accelerated Universe 7's eliminations.

Yeah, the pace is MUCH quicker. I figure we'll get a similar "Universe 7 is a threat! Gang up on them!" thing with the manga in about a chapter or two though.

Frost is still evil in the manga

I thought he wasn't evil in the manga, though. What happened? Did Vegeta beat the Frieza into him?

Frost has always been an asshole. There is plenty of room for greys before going Freeza-black.

He still teams up with Freeza and agrees that ruling with an iron fist is best.

[up][up]He's doing a bit more. Blasting at off-screen people and doing a Foe-Tossing Charge through a bunch of fighters. He's still a dick to Goku, though. He tells him to get lost, that he's an eyesore, and that he doesn't want to waste energy fighting him.

The anime had a chaotic start but didn't maintain it beyond the opener.

I expect the manga to similarly start focusing on smaller battles but with quicker pacing.

Considering the tournament never really maintained that chaotic nature it's not much of a loss in hindsight honestly.

It quickly devolved to just Everyone vs U7 after all.

Judging by how the manga kept Jiren's first meeting with Goku roughly the same (though he's actually even ruder in the manga), I'm going to make a guess.

wild mass guessJiren is the same character in both the anime and manga, it's just that both mediums paint an incomplete picture of him. Jiren's family and allies were kiled by an evil-doer, and he dedicated himself to getting immensely stronger, so much stronger that no-one could ever hurt him or others like that again. He threw away parts of who he is to get stronger, which is why he admired Vegeta for getting stronger without throwing away who he is. Jiren's kind of a jerk and feels like he can't trust anyone. His trust issues manifest in that he doesn't trust anyone else to protect Universe 11 as well as him, thus his statement of going back if anything goes wrong. He doesn't like to kill and he sits out of most of the tournament because he would be contributing to the erasure of other universes. wild mass guess

We'll see. We still don't have much to go on.

I have to admit, I'd be impressed if the manga did a worse job of characterizing Jiren than the anime. Outside of both of his fights with Goku, he's given us very little to go on.

For someone who's supposed to be a Superman analogue, I'm disappointed that they didn't go whole hog with it, and instead went with the stoic badass route again. His motivations didn't do much either.

It worked with Hit, sure, but it took a while for Hit to grow on people.

I'm not really sure where people are getting the Superman thing from. He's closer to Saitama from One Punch Man, and even then I'd be hesitant to call Jiren a parody of him.

It's fun to call Jiren anime Superman, but he;s not actually like him in any significant way. Memes just have a way of sticking around.

He's a low-rent Batman really.

He'a got nothing on Crazy Steve though so he still has nothing in the end.
