I mean, it kind of seems like the writers write as if the episodes were standalones...

I think it ties into the production issues.

Even at this point after over a hundred episodes there's apparently still problems.

One of which is that the writers aren't collaborating with each other as much as they should.

Yeah. They really should have gotten together and decided just what they were going to do. I know Toriyama just basically left everyone to do their own thing, but you'd think the Toei writers and Toyotarou would at least try to get all their ducks in a row.

Last Jedi Armageddon was surprisingly tame compared to stuff like the Potterdammerrung and the Avatarcalypse. I was underwhelmed.

Are the new Star Wars movies generally viewed favorably or not? I'm not really a part of that whole scene, so I wouldn't know.

The latest one has been, to put it as non-biasedly as possiblenote , extremely controversial.

Of the two before that, The Force Awakens was basically conceptually bland but well executed while Rogue One had a really interesting concept and was sloppily executed.

Well there successful but films like The Last Jedi have become very controversial. [nja]

Just look at the Stars Wars threads here, things got so heated at least one threat had to be locked down.

[up] I did not like it either.

It's a mixed bag all around. You generally either like the new films or you don't, and because Star Wars is so big the divisions can produce extreme reactions.

The Star Wars fandom has been unpleasantly fractious as long as I can remember so this new controversy is just business as usual with a bit more overt unpleasantness

I absolutely love the new film, but there is conflict over its quality. It's not helped by the assholes who hate the film just because it stars minorities.

Nor is it helped by people who imply that people who hate the film must do so because it stars minorities, women, etc.

If it canonized ships it would likely be as big as Avatarmageddon, though.

It kind of does, but they're extremely minor compared to some other shows. It helps that all of the Official Couples have been married for years and have children, so the only shipping wars you can have where people take you seriously are ones involving new characters, arguments about the series' past, or what-if scenarios.

Toriyama had all his couples get together offscreen because he's supposedly "terrible" at romance but honestly I'd take his stuff over that of some writers that do make romance a big part of the narrative like Nakaba and Kishimoto, easily.

If Goku married Bulma there would really be no other option than to have Vegeta marry Chi-Chi. That's how that works right?

I think the most controversial this series has been about shipping recently was Trunks/Mai and Kale/Caulifla, for different reasons than the normal shipping wars.

So nothing really serious.

Like none of the really toxic shit that plague other fandom's like Undertale or Voltron.

Like yeah at worst you'll get Goku could be happier if he married Bulma but that's as serious as it gets really.

[up][up] Though that shits more new.

[up] Huh well that's creative, kudos. [tup]

Dragon Ball has its own slew of problems.

Power level arguments can get just as toxic as shipping wars can.
